  1. There was a $15 Groupon I snagged today for $30 worth of groceries here. So worth it! This place is large for an organic market it in the city and has a large vitamin section too. It's definitely pricier than Fairway and Whole Foods for some things, however, they have a lot of things on sale. Kombucha is $3.79 here and the Ancient Harvest Quinoa is about $7.00 just to give you an idea. Their bacon looked excellent…maybe next time. Minus a star for teeny tiny aisles.

  2. Open late! Huge selection of natural and organic items. Prepared foods, smoothies, shakes, yummy soup bar, grab and go items. Also vitamins and speciality items.

They have deals often, check out their circular or stop in to see what's on sale. You'll find things at great discounts you won't find other places.

The staff is friendly and helpful.

This establishment has been going for a while and it's nice to see them still kicking even with a Wholefoods not too far away.

I do see some of the comments on Yelp that Westerly has items that are priced higher than average. Well that's common with most of the grocery stores in Manhattan. You need to be a savvy shopper and find each stores strengths (price:offering).

As I said they have great deals, but not everything is priced the best. Gotta shop to get the best deals.
And here they have some and a great selection.

  3. Going to westerly is like going to a mini whole foods without dealing with all the lines. On the positive size, the store carries a lot of product despite its size especially in the health food/vitamins section. In addition, shelves are well stocked and product seems fresh. In addition, there are many cashiers and other staff members willing to help. Lines are never that long and store is open late (midnight). On the negative side, the aisles especially in the middle of the store are way too narrow. If there is a staff member restocking an item in those aisles, you can barely walk through. In addition, prices are towards the high side (even for Manhattan), although they do run "sales" on certain items to bring prices down to normal.

Remember to purchase the groupons which allow for purchase on most items, including sale items. ($25 for $40 of spending, $15 for $30 of spending).

  4. Need an obscure protein mix that you can't find in any other store? Or some rare special pistachio cream generally only found in Brazil? Or that weird flavor of think thin bars that no stores seem to carry? If so, this is the place to check out because THEY. HAVE. EVERYTHING.

OK, perhaps a bit of an exaggeration, but this is the place to go for all sorts of health foods, nuts, protein bars, etc. The aisles are very narrow and basically overflowing with healthy products. They also sometimes have samples of really interesting new health bars, "healthy ice creams" (hah), and other unusual offerings. The variety really is the advantage here; I wouldn't buy regular items here, as they tend to be slightly more expensive.

Try the fresh cashew butter and honey roasted peanut butter before you go – really good. Though I wouldn't pretend either is remotely healthy. 🙂

  5. I've frequented this market whenever I'm in the area.  It has the wholefoods experience in a smaller scale.  I love that they carry a lot of different supplements that most other markets and even those that are vitamin/supplement shops do not have.  The vegan/vegetarian selection is great and I can find anything I would normally get from wholefoods/shop rite at a reasonable price since they always have discounts available.  The staff is super friendly and attentive, they go out of their way to assist you in whatever your questions or needs are.  When it comes to fresh groceries you will always find the best organic quality items that money can buy.

  6. Zero stars. I came here just before closing time and they shut it down in my face. Couldn't buy anything. The staff is extremely rude–sort of like a third world militia.

  7. Being a health food enthusiast, I've visited almost every health food store in Manhattan.  I've been going to Westerly for the last few years on a weekly basis and can say it is hands down the best natural market in the city with the largest selection!

  8. I LOVE THIS STORE. By far the most selection of juices, foods, supplements, desserts, smoothies and hard to find items like apricot nuts! The staff is helpful and knowledgeable and prices are about the same if not better than Whole Foods, but a larger selection of vitamins and powdered vitamins. They were running low on psyillium husk powder, however, so I bought a different brand. The shelves are stacked high so you migh tneed assistance. I wish this store was a chain on the West Coast!
