  1. It is hard to resist ice cream.  It is harder still to resist ice cream when the truck is parked almost right outside your apartment window.  And it is impossible to resist ice cream of this quality that is within such easy reach.

Itizy brings a great product–their vanilla is my favorite so far–and friendly service at a price premium that hopefully serves to check your frequency of indulgence.  Their toppings are just as incredible, of note the sea salt & caramel topping.

The truck comes to Tribeca three days a week.  Unfortunately for me, one of those days is Sunday, when I am generally home and frequently on the lookout for ice cream during summer afternoons.  Well, at least Itizy is good enough to justify a number of my now-frequent transgressions of the rules of healthy eating.

  2. Stumbled upon this truck on my walk home and decided to beat the 2012 "heatpocalypse" with a scoop of cold, refreshing ice cream.

    Best. Decision. Ever.

I got their special of the day, roasted banana, and added their sea salt & caramel topping for an additional buck. This was a magnificent flavor combo. Everything tasted so darn fresh and I even got some actual roasted chunks of banana in my scoop. I especially loved that just the perfect amount of sea salt was sprinkled on and high quality Ghiradelli caramel sauce was used.

At roughly $4.25, It's quite pricey for ice cream, especially since you only get a small scoop. I really think $0.50-$1 cheaper would be a much better price point, particularly since they don't have a storefront (and therefore high rent payments). Hence the reason for 4 rather than 5 stars.

However, I do have to give Itizy props for using locally sourced, high quality ingredients and for their "Scoops for Meals" program where they donate a meal to a child for every 5 scoops sold.

Bonus: Credit cards accepted for purchases over $5 – a rarity for a NYC food truck!
