I work at NYP, yet lament the fact that I currently do not work most Tuesdays at the Washington Heights campus, because this is a wonderful farmers' market. I believe this specific market came to fruition in 2013, and it attracts many NYP and Columbia employees in the 7 hours it's opened. You've got a lot of your usual NYC farmers' market players there, such as Red Jacket Orchards, and there are plenty of demonstrations by GrowNYC staff. There are also bins for compost and textile recycling. The small section of Fort Washington between 168th and 169th is lined with a multitude of fruits, vegetables, cheese, baked goods (including vegan), plants, and flowers. I always manage to leave any visit with a shopping back full of goodies for about $10 on average, and the vegetables will usually last me through five days of cooking lunches and dinners for myself. The quality of what I buy there exceeds any grocery store. (As it should.)
This may be one of the lil' guys, but this is not a farmer's market to be missed if you're in the area any Tuesday from June though November!
