OddFellows Ice Cream Co

“I didn't get the odd pocket because I didn't want something too heavy, so I got a single scoop of the strawberry olive oil.”

“I also sampled Ants on a Log which was a celery sorbet with peanuts and raisins.”

“Luckily– just like the Williamsburg location, the customer service here was top notch, and the girls at the counter let me borrow their charger to juice up at the shop!”

  1. TIny little to go ice cream store. Too small to eat there which is a shame because it's cutely decorated like an old time Ice cream parlor. Otherwise it's pretty standard. Flavors like anywhere else, they let you sample, and prices are competitive. It's good ice cream just nothing special especially for the area.

  2. I thought I really liked this place even though the price was on a higher note.  I stopped by on a Saturday.  It is a very small shop.  Nowhere to sit.  Just a counter.  There were like 8 flavors, most of which were not familiar to me.

I had two scoop ice cream, which was really 'two scoops' (the size of 'scoop' vary a lot from store to store.  this place really sticks to the size of a real scoop).  I didn't feel like an ice cream sandwich, so had vanilla and chorizo caramel flavor with spicy almond topping (toasted almond with red pepper powder).  Actually it worked really well.  The spicy kick from the topping worked very well with the subtle sweetness of the ice cream.  The ice cream was literally spicy, but i enjoyed it.

I would go back to try other flavor definitely .

  3. Such a cute little spot! Although there is little seating, the interior reminds me of a carnival – red and white stripes on the walls. We tried the chocolate chunk, Thai iced tea and coffee chunk. All were amazing, but I especially liked the Thai iced tea, which is rare to come by at any ice cream shop. We also sampled the celery (ants on a log) and passion fruit, but they were unbearably strange for our taste buds.

I would give this 4 stars for taste but an extra one for customer service.

  4. I'll admit it. I came here just for the insta. I was disappointed. Not by the ice cream–which by the way was super average–but by the service. There was only one man working behind the bar and it took him over 5 minutes per customer! There was a real line and he showed no hustle at all. I like the idea of using brioche bread and other ingredients to make ice cream sandwiches but the texture just wasn't doing it for me. Really nothing special and also there are only 4 seats–wut.

  5. Maybe they didn't have great flavors when I visited, but I wasn't blown away by any of them. Some are pretty unique (thai iced tea or the malt one with mushrooms), but again nothing that really surprised me taste-wise. My decision was not so much of which one I liked best, but which one I could eat the most of. Not terrible ice cream by any means.

I was convinced to get the oddpocket. It's pretty big and guaranteed to make you feel sick. The brioche is delicious and the concept is great, but I think the flavor of the ice cream gets lost in everything. I went with the carrot cake cream cheese flavor, which was decent on its own, but unidentifiable in the sandwich. I topped with honey caramel which was super sweet, and spicy almond. It ended up being very messy and very sweet.

The shop is tiny, maybe standing room for 10 max. Two people behind the counter. They'll let you try any of the flavors, there's only 8 at one time.

  6. I love that they have many different strange flavors that they rotate everyday. They also don't judge you when you ask for samples since there's so many favors to try. Some of the cool favors I remember are carrot cake cheesecake, passion fruit saffron, caramel with chorizo, pink lemonade, banana bread pudding, and miso cherry. I've tried most of these flavors and they're great. My personal favorite was the passion fruit saffron because I love passion fruit. I will definitely stop by again to check out more of their flavors since they have about 100+ that they constantly rotate. Please remember to check in because you get a monkey pin! I forgot that the last time I went.

  7. LOVED LOVED LOVED the unique flavors here! The Saffron Passionfruit was AMAZING! I've heard they have even more great flavors at their other sites, and I can't wait to check them out! Definitely worth the stop!

  8. I don't know how many times I've walked past OddFellows over the years without going inside, so I made it a point to finally try it before leaving New York. I was too full to go for a sandwich but the sample of the banana pudding flavor was good enough for me to get a scoop of. Usually I'm pretty wary about banana ice creams because too many go the way of artificial banana-eyness, but here I got a balanced, natural tasting flavor that went well with the bread chunks that came with it. Very refreshing, not overpowering, and my kids scoop was more than enough to satisfy me.

The girl who helped me was very friendly and helpful, and she was nice enough to let me use my card to pay, despite the listed $10 minimum. There's hardly anywhere to sit inside, so I took up residence on one of the benches outside and was able to creep on passing dogs while enjoying my ice cream. I'm definitely glad I gave OddFellows a chance, and should I ever be back in the area I'll be willing to go for the gusto with an oddpocket or sandwich!
