  1. I love this place. Great sandwiches, great coffee, and the clincher: super awesome friendly people behind the counter. A gem of the UES for sure.

  2. Brown Cup is the closest coffee shop (to me…) that pours a decent, drinkable (I'm looking at you, Starbucks) Iced Americano. It's not the best, it definitely not the worst and it's perfect for when I don't want to walk more than two blocks for my caffeine fix. Also, the service is great. The women who work here are just the sweetest and I'm always greeted with a smile.

I took off a star because it's a little pricey and they have a $5.00 credit card minimum.

  3. eesh. $5.50 for a fresh squeezed orange juice, but i guess that's what it costs everywhere. they'll juice whatever you like. my health-conscious roommate has been going to them for a while.  the girls behind the counter couldn't be lovelier.  the coffee is good too.  see them and support a quality local business.

  4. Great local spot! My hazelnut latte was delicious. It's super small so don't bank on getting a seat here. Only about 4 seats at all and when customers are in there also ordering it's super cramped. Definitely a grab and go spot. Yummy egg sandwiches too, all made to order. Definitely will be back!

  5. Cute little joint if you're looking for something different than Starbucks or Dunkin. It's extremely tiny – ordering counter and a couple stools. The coffee is ok. The smoothies are a good but a little on the expensive side ($6.50) – you can get a better tasting smoothie at Effy's just up the block and it's cheaper. One thing I do want to try next time are the sandwiches – they were selling like crazy when I was in there earlier! Also – the workers are SO nice. As soon as you walk in they greet you with a cheerful "hellooooooo!" Kind of cracked me up a little but in a good way – really nice people!

  6. i only ever come to the upper east side for two things: to get my nails done at sakura nail & spa, and to get my cafe banana smoothie fix from the brown cup right next door. i love coming here even if im not in the mood for a smoothie .. the staff is always super friendly with quick service and great drinks. stop by if you're in the area to enjoy one of their smoothies. i always go for the cafe banana but i've brought friends who have tried the other options and loved them!

  7. The mozzarella and tomato sandwich would have been good had it not been served on a stale baguette that was actually painful to bite into and chew. I would give this place another shot, in hopes that the day(s) old, hard bread they served me a number of weeks ago was just a fluke.

  8. This is just one of those sort of places you want to support in the neighborhood. And not just the upper east side… Any neighborhood. A super friendly couple of gals, some solid breakfast and lunch items (my fave being the avocado + egg on whole wheat toast), enough coffee and tea selections, and always a round of smiling faces.

With the select bus service currently calling their front door home, it's a great opportunity to pop in for a to-go bite before commuting to work.
