Sofia's Cart makes the best gyros, and lamb and rice that I've had since I moved to the city (granted I don't go out to Astoria). The meat is juicy and well seasoned, with just the perfect amount of crispiness around the edges. The ingredients are fresh and she keeps the cart very clean. She makes tzatziki sauce herself, which is leaps and bound above that ambiguously dubbed "white sauce." For six dollars, the lamb and rice portion is generous. On Mondays and Tuesdays she makes spinach pies, which are very large and sell for around five dollars. On Fridays she brings baklava!
Sofia is very sweet and personable, and she is nice enough to provide a little card to frequent customers: 10 sandwiches / lamb rice plates gets you a free one.
If you're in Brooklyn Heights and looking for a good gyro, please don't waste your time with the other places (especially the one right next to her on Court Street. I went there once by accident and it was $6 for excessively greasy tiny pieces of meat), go say hello to Sofia. She'll ruin you for other gyros 😉
