Murray’s Cheese

“In addition to cheeses, they have many other products from sausages to crackers, to breads & spreads.”

“Still loving their cheese counter with the "Ewephoria" becoming a new favorite, and they do a great job sourcing local snack foods, like Redhead's Peanut Bacon Brittle and Mast Bros. Chocolate.”

“The prices are a bit high, so I really try to only go here when I am trying to get some nice snacks for people to nosh on when I'm having company.”

  1. Two teens and Dad trying to find a quick easy dinner like snack in GCS…and Phoebe from San Antonio who was working the counter was awesome.  She helped us find three great cheeses, taste a few others — one was um…uh…well yea we didn't buy it but the kids tried it!  She is my food hero of the vacation.  The selection here is amazing.  The prices reasonable and the help behind the counter amazing.

  2. This is a great cheese place! They had some hard to find cheeses but also the usual crowd-pleasers. The prices really range depending on what cheese you want but they also have accoutrements for the cheese like jams, salsa, charcuterie, crackers and nearby, you can buy some fruit.

  3. Murray's Cheese is the definitive expert on dairy delights. This location in Grand Central Market is rather large and very popular. Grab a ticket from the middle of the cheese and salami counter and wait to be called. Peruse the hundreds of options they have in the case or prewrapped in the cold to-go cases. Chat up the celebrated cheesemongers and don't be shy about asking for a sample. Grab your order and check out at the register. Overall its a New York style cheese shop experience because you can be throwing elbows at times, but the service is so fast and chipper that you leave feeling like you learned something new and are carrying a delicious treasure to share at home. Prices are par with most NYC cheese shops and they carry exceptional varieties that make it worth a stop!

  4. Cheese, cheese, and more cheese…And meats…And spreads. Lots of selection here for the cheese and charcuterie lovers out there. I really like the choices here as I feel like there is always a great cheese to try. If you have a long time staples then this place probably has that for you too. Recently discovered this place and will most definitely be back.

An added bonus is the close proximity to all the wonderful shops in Grand Central. If you haven't taken a stroll down there then I definitely recommend.

  5. Murray's original location is in the west village, but they've had a full service cheese counter in the food court at GCT for several years. It's been expanded to include charcuterie (meats) as well as selected accompaniments such as crackers and jams, but in addition to pre-wrapped grab and go items they still maintain a full service cheese counter with knowledgeable staff who discuss your needs, provide free samples and cut to order, making it a destination for those who love fromage.

  6. I stop by here from time to time on the way home from work.

This place is a cheese lover's paradise.  The selection here is amazing, and about as good as their main shop on Bleecker St. in the West Village.  My personal favorite is the solo di bruna parmigiano-reggiano, a parmesan cheese with a wonderful flavor, and is great whether eaten plain or grated into pasta.  Another favorite of mine is the grana padano, which I sometimes mix with the solo di bruna into pasta or eat on its own.

Other favorites of mine are their blue cheeses, the gorganzolas, and their Irish Chedder.

If you are into the more pungent fancy French cheeses, they have them here too.  I can't really recommend them, because I just don't like those kind of cheeses, but friends who have tried them say that they are good.

In addition to cheeses, they have many other products from sausages to crackers,  to breads & spreads.

Just a warning: you will be tempted to buy everything in the store, and the prices here can be expensive.

The staff here is very friendly and helpful.  One day I couldn't find the solo di bruna (OH NO!!!).  A worker said that he will look in back, and came back with what I wanted.

So, if you want some cheese to nosh on, are hosting a wine & cheese party, or want something very special to put on your pasta, this is the place to go!!!

  7. Murrays is undoubtedly one of the best selection of cheese in NYC. Was glad to find then in Grand central Terminal market. Convenient if you are around to pick cheese, bread, crackers etc if you not in in the lower blocks of Manhattan. Not the same expansive collection, but will work for most of us on most days commuting to/from work to home/hotel.

  8. I absolutely love cheese counters that let me taste and ask as many questions as I would like! I picked up several different cheeses that were recommended by the cheese guy (I would need an intervention if I worked here), some Brooklyn Hot Dog Co. hot dogs, brioche hot dog buns, pepperdews, pickles, and a baguette when I stopped here for literally just the cheese. The service here was fantastic, and I can't wait to go back!
