  1. After our foray into the eats of Jackson Heights we wanted something sweet and nothing like trying out some Indian desserts. The food seems good here but we were after what was behind the light out glass counter in the front. The endless arrays of different sweets which temps you.

While I can't even frankly say I remember what we picked. But one was round one was square and one had nuts and honey. What I can say is that they were all good. Some might be great for the sweet tooth person and some had just the right amount. Either way I don't think you can go wrong just to randomly pick something that looks good to the eyes. Even if you don't like the choice it doesn't hurt the pocket book so go ahead try something.

  2. Another one of my stops while teaching my mother the wonders of Indian cuisine. We got a small box of several of my favorite Indian sweets and the whole shebang was only $5. I feel like we were ripping them off!

I picked a selection of gulab jamun, ras malai, jalebis, and several of the ground nut sweets that I can never remember the name of. All of them reminded me of my travels to Indian many years ago. I have to admit, I prefer my jalebis fresh and hot to cooled down but they were still delish and the gulab jamun and ras malai were so good I started looking up recipes to see if I could make them at home. I forgot how delicious, and sugar soaked they are. And even though they have probably a pound of sugar syrup soaked into them, they still don't feel overwhelming to me.

There was a line there when we arrived but were were acknowledged and served promptly which I was thankful for. I couldn't wait to get home and eat all the sweets! I'm definitely putting this on my top list of places worth the train ride farther into Queens.

I came here just to get 2lbs (about 5 different kinds, 4 pieces each) of dessert for a retirement party at work — coworker was Indian, so I had to impress her with my knowledge of Indian food.

Of course, I had to get some ras malai for myself. Got 6 pieces of those…

  4. Maharaja is a solid stop for Indian Sweets and Snacks.  They have a very nice selection of items, especially coconut items.

Pricing by the pound can give you some real perspective of how much you are eating. Not that packages don't often have weights, we just never have our day to day food weighed in front of us as we pick it.  Prices end up being pretty decent.

  5. Great shop, great sweets, though the place is a bit dingy. I had terrific rasmali, which I adore, and have no complaints. I saw some negative reviews about the service; who comes here for the service? I come to get my dessert and get out, the end!

  6. The sweets were excellent. I enjoyed the white Cham but it was a bit soggy. The bran-brownie like thing was great! The kasar something was also good.

The main downside to this place was that the man behind the counter literally treated me like shit. He acted angry that I chose to order only a small number of items instead of making a bulk order of something. He then continued to harangue my friends who were also ordering for themselves. It was unprofessional to such an extent that I would legitimately consider not going back.

  7. This sweet shop satiates my sweet cravings for Indian sweets. Right from gulab Jamuns to rasgullas,   Burfi to halwa- this shop has it all. Although I am not a great fan of their food but their desserts are gud.

  8. This place is fancy! Full of tasty Indian sweets. I though Indian sweets would be super sweet, but much to my surprise, they were yummmmy. I am now a fan.
