  1. My friend and I are always on the hunt for a cool coffee shop where we can sip, gossip, and work in our own neighborhood. She came across this place reading a review, and we decided to check it out on a Saturday early afternoon. I found it to be a good spot for brunch and getting some work down. It totally beats Starbucks butt! It's also perfect for both health nuts and coffee aficionados.

    FACILITY
When I first entered te cafe, I noticed how narrow the space was. It was already packed with the brunch crowd. Every single table was occupied. Fortunately, my friend had saved me a seat at the counter. Seating is limited to 10-15 small tables and 3-4 counter seats. The space was spotless. The condiments station seemed to be wiped clean and the bathroom was spick and span. Even though the eatery was crowded, I did not have to shout at my friend. The acoustics kept the volume comfortably low. In fact, the customer next to me was studying for his bar exam. So, if it's good enough for a law student, it's good enough for me. Decor had a vintage feel. There was a chalkboard menu, and a wall of potted plants and herbs.

    FOOD
Moss sells vegetarian and kosher foods, including baked goods (zucchini bread anyone?), soups, sandwiches, brunch staples, and hot coffee and tea beverages. So, just by walking into this vegetarian hot spot, I feel 10 times healthier. I ordered a lentil soup, and it was slamming! Yes, it was healthy and vegetarian, but it was uber-flavorful. Unfortunately, delicious healthy goodness comes at a price. The food here is quite pricey.

    SERVICE
The staff here is young, helpful, and friendly. They greeted me with a smile and speedily gave me my order. They didn't rush my friend and I, so we stayed longer and ordered more food. With all of this good food and friendly service, I felt like I was in a dear friend's kitchen.

  2. This place is awesome. Tried the sweet bread, eggs, veggie burger, soup & grilled cheese, and latkas with salmon lox. Everything was absolutely delicious. The only down side is that the lunch cost us 60$. So it's not that cheap if you get more than one item to try. The best thing there for me was the veggie burger – a must try. I'm moving to the neighborhood and can't wait to come here again.

  3. Moss Café is a neighborhood gem. I first heard about it from CUPS but I do believe they've been around for some time now. We decided to check them out for brunch on Sunday. The espresso drinks did not disappoint and the food was very good. Healthy too, and this is a great spot for vegetarians. We enjoyed the baked eggs and the gravlax toast. And don't forget the savory scones! The caramelized onion scone was actually one of the best things we ate that day.

Do note that they are closed on Saturdays and that the space is rather small so you might be sitting very close to your neighbors.

  4. I enjoyed my meal and will likely return but it is pricey and we had to wait a LONG time for our food.

This place's aesthetic is very Brooklynesque/Palm Springs (rustic, white, drift wood, chalkboards, succulents) and the prices match. We had three coffee drinks and three breakfast dishes and our order was $65. I think almost $15 for a bowl of grits with cheese, kale and 2 poached eggs is a bit overpriced but the food was delicious so maybe this is the kind of place I will save as a treat rather than a regular breakfast option.

We had to wait over 40 minutes for our food – so while we waited I also purchased a gluten free/dairy free carrot quinoa muffin and it was delicious. With that said, something needs to happen in the kitchen because lots of other patrons were waiting a long time for their food.

  5. This review is for the baked eggs and toast I had this morning.
I ordered at the counter and when my order was complete it was delivered to my table. I have ordered baked eggs three times in the past 2 weeks, these were not as good as the others. They were over done and more or less tasteless. Also, the toast was an extra $3.00 and were the rather poor coffee refills. There are way better places in Riverdale for breakfast.
