  1. What a friggen gem of old school butcher/sandwich shop/ deli.. I feel like a schmuck for not patronizing this shop before… it's been around forever and I've eyed it for 10 years… shame on me!  Beautiful prime meat, home made prepared meals  and dishes like lasagne or eggplant parm.. roasted chicken and baked ham.. home made roast beef and turkey for sandwiches.. The best Italian combo hero I've had in a long time..  It smells amazing – there's a big oven where they roast ham, beef, turkey and chicken.  Some reviewers (some of them nasty.. boo!) coined this place as a glorified bodega. Well from someone who grew up in a Columbian neighborhood this is NOT a "bodega"…  (I feel many folks whether they be transplants or never experienced a true bodega think it's just a deli.. it's not ;-P.  Bodegas I grew up with in the 80s and 90s you could buy pampers or a kilo of cocaine… Just sayin..  Bodegas don't exist on the Upper East Side of Manhattan now or ever, especially right down the street from our mayor's home Gracie Mansion). This place is a quaint old butcher with some groceries and f-ing awesome sammies and nice looking prime meat. Go for it. 😉

  2. Apparently I am in the minority here (or all the reviews are done by employees/owners). This market is basically an upscale bodega. There are a lot better options in the neighborhood.

  3. What happned to the Upper East Side?

It feels like a Banana Republic and a Shake Shack are opening up on every corner. Not that I mind the Shake Shack. They have bangin' burgers.

Sorry for the tangent, but the UES is slowly becoming too commercial and Hollywood to be considered a neighborhood anymore. It's sad. Keep the mom and pop shops alive!!

Conte's is exactly what the UES is missing. Instead of H&M craziness in multiple floors, we need more small businesses that give the neighborhood character and drive the prices down. Conte's is always open, always friendly and always the same. Not to mention they've got some good beef.

It's small, but they cater to each customer. I didn't know what to have for dinner the other night and they were more than helpful with a quick "roast a chicken!" pitch and I was sold. Walking home with the uncooked bird and the directions on how to cook it ringing in my ears, I felt so vintage going home to cook for my man. Maybe Conte's is on to something.

Forget the meats if it's not your thing, they have pastas and sauces and pre-made dinners and salads and you can bet your bottom dollar it's affordable.

Conte's. Boom Doggie. Hit that ish up and support more local businesses because everywhere I turn, there is another Duane Reade.
