I hate this location. Their original a few doors down is much better.
The original is already small as is. This one is literally 1/3 the size of the original. The wait is forever long and everyone is way too close to each other for comfort. Even if not claustrophobic, you're gonna end up being so after sitting in here and trying to enjoy your dessert.
I like the original spot dessert bar better then the new location but if you dont feel like waiting then the small one will do. There are also less items then the other location. Also there is no bathroom. The waiter is also taking names for the next people to sit so he isnt as attentive.
Delicious desserts and a great place to bring friends from out of town. The green tea lava cake is always a hit. The matcha ice cream isn't too sweet, so it goes well with the cake.
The berry cheesecake in the pot isn't really like cheesecake. It's a lot lighter and tastes like cream. It's really delicious though! The coconut monkey bread is also awesome. Highly recommend all three of these desserts.
We got two desserts between three people after eating dinner, which was plenty. If you are really hungry, then get one dessert a person.
I'm not really a big dessert person, but when you're in New York, it's impossible to avoid trying new dessert bars. Be prepared for a wait when you come to this place. My group of 4 probably had to wait a good 40 minutes around 10 PM.
We got the chocolate green tea lava cake and the harvest. I would have to say that I liked the harvest more out of the two even though I'm usually a huge green tea fan. The green tea lava cake would be really good for chocolate lovers, but personally I'm just not a huge chocolate lover. The harvest was a delicious cheesecake with berries. I really liked the side of black milk tea that you pour into the "flower pot". It really tied together the milky flavor of the dessert.
Cool place to check out if you're a dessert lover and even if you're not!
Sugar overload!!! These are the things that you work out to eat, but it's definitely worth it when you afford the wait time and the calories.
I've tried 5 items off of their 9 item menu, and I haven't been disappointed with any of them. Provided, there are ones I like more than others. The golden toast and chocolate forest are going to be my top 2 out of the 5.
If you're a chocolate lover, I suggest the chocolate forest over the chocolate green tea lava cake. Though, the lava cake has a heavy green tea flavor (which I enjoyed). The chocolate forest cake is very rich. It's not your typical fluffy mousse cake where it may or may not taste like chocolate. Not at all. From the first bite, you're sporting a biiig smile.
The golden toast is dense like you expect Asian breads to be, but it's also light. It's odd, but a must try! It's their signature item, and you'll understand why. It's so simple..not like the others that have tons of elements to it, but sometimes less is more right??
Overall, everything is a must-try, must-share!
I've gone twice: once with a group of 5 and then 6 people, and each time we got the 4 tapas combo. That was plenty for us! Again, all their desserts are rich. So sharing is definitely caring here.
If you enjoy aesthetically and palate-ically pleasing desserts, this is your place. Case in point: the Chocolate Forest, the lone desert that we shared during our visit, very much looked like an actual forest. The cake (pistachio and apricot crumb-covered chocolate mousse cake with – surprise! – a rush of gooey chocolate sauce in the middle) and its accompanying pistachio ice cream were of course the culinary highlights of the dish (every bite of the pistachio/chocolate mouse combo was just phenom.). But what really struck me was the way the chef plays with texture and color to create oddly convincing "forest" elements like moss and dirt. You really only see this particular shade of green in matcha [I believe it must've been used to create the coloring] and in the jungle, so it seems this dessert really was meant to be.
There are other well-known desserts here, like the potted plant one that you can actually "water" (read: pour milk into) and the green tea lava cake. I am very excited to try them someday. I will say, though, that Chocolate Forest was named best dessert of 2014 by the Village Voice.
We also had an iced latte to wash down the forest, and it was ahhhhmazing.
Um, what else do you need to know? This is the Spot Dessert Bar location #2 on St. Mark's, and it seemed to be a bit less crowded than the original, so we went to this one. We did still have to wait about 10-15 minutes, which wasn't too bad considering it was a weekend night. It doesn't seem like there's any reason not to go to the less crowded of the two locations.
I shared a few desserts with a group after a long day out in East Village. We shared the harvest, the chocolate forest, and a dessert with banana ice cream and caramel drizzle over a pastry.
The most interesting dessert was the harvest. It was plated to look like a young plant in a pot. The pot was based with cheesecake, filled with fruit, and topped with oreo cookie crumble which resembled dirt. The dish came with a small cup of milk which was intended to water the plant. It was a cute dessert.
I disliked that the location at 5 Saint Marks did not have a bathroom. All patrons had to walk over to the location at 13 Saint Marks to use the bathroom. I also disliked that the hostesses did not estimate the wait times. They would only disclose how many parties were ahead of you.
New location! Really no difference from the original location down the street. And it's still just as crowded and loud, just like its sister down the street :/ what used to be a cute date dessert shop has turned into an overhyped overinstagrammed dessert shop. At least from what I can tell, the prices are still the same as five years ago.
Ordered the classic chocolate green tea lava cake and it's still The Spot's classic #1 for a reason. The mixture of warm brownie cake with cold green tea ice cream is just amazing.
Stop by and check it out! Another location always means less of a wait time!
