Seems I always end up here when I just need one bag of groceries.
It's a block from my apartment, they have great produce, a deli, a nice selection of pastas, sauces, all things pickled and they take credit & debit. Not as cheap as Key Foods, but more convenient for sure.
I gotta start leaving the gummi bears on the shelf when I'm in here.
I can't give this place a raving review simply because the only thing I bought here was a single onion (hey, it's not my fault if Trader Joe's only sells onions by the bag; what the hell am I supposed to do with 5 pounds of onions?!). The onion, a red onion, was $0.36 ($0.79/lb). I used it for a risotto that came out quite nice, actually.
Their selection of fresh produce and fruit looks very impressive.
PRODUCE, OLIVE BAR and CHEESE, Oh My.
My first (and only?) grocery store review! This niche grocery store has some unique items that are noteworthy and completely annihilate the competition (Trader Joe's).
BEST BROOKLYN PRODUCE:
The best spot to buy produce in the area. (Read: Do not buy produce from Trader Joe's across the street, unless you want mold encrusted lemons, tomatoes and soggy organic lettuce. Go there for other things like eggs, packaged goods and then finish off at Pacific Standard).
I have been a loyal Pacific Standard customer ever since the days I lived on Court St. and Trader Joe's was not yet in existence. My favorite part about their produce is that they joyfully want you to sample and try everything. There is always an employee with a knife outside ready to cut through an apple, nectarine, etc… The fruit is always SWEET and veggies are gorgeous.
FRESH OLIVE BAR:
I recently found out that the owner is Turkish, which explains the amazing fresh Olive Bar!!! Many olives are imported from Turkey. Go buy some olives from Trader Joe's or even Wholefoods… then eat some of the Olive's from Pacific Standard – you will TASTE the difference. In Brooklyn, I solely buy my olives from here.
CHEESE:
The cheese section is unique. To be honest, for everyday cheese, I still go to Trader Joe's. However, if I am hosting a party or special event and want a nuanced, kick you in the face type of cheese, I buy something interesting and lovely at Pacific Standard.
I always go after my requisite Trader Joe's trip to supplement my groceries with the above.
Really really good produce here. I just spent a good 10 minutes, yesterday, eying it. It's high quality, nothing's bruised, everything's fresh. They are stocked to the brims with apples right now. I recommend you swing by and get some.
The fruits and vegetables are all outside, and they were nice enough to cover the area and install some heat lamps. Inside, there's all sorts of deli meats, leafy greens, spices, cheeses, etc.
But it's the produce that really excels. I know there's a place right next to Sahadi's that gets high marks on the produce… but I don't see what the fuss is about over there. Pacific Green is where it's at.
The produce is always nice and fresh, and occasionally they have some good deals on the ripe stuff. For example, last week I ended up buying three avocados for $3. When I walked inside to pay, they had samples of their guacamole out for the taking. It was an informal taste test, like Pacific Green was telling me to taste their guacamole, and go home and try and top it. And you know what? Mine* is better.
Feel free to use this opportunity to send me YOUR recipe for guacamole. If you're lucky, I might respond with, "Mine is better."

*By "mine," I mean my girlfriend's. I don't set foot in the kitchen. That's women's work (that's why all chefs are women.) I spend my days cleaning the bathroom and knitting socks.
In a battle of David & Goliath, Pacific Green corner market appears to be holding its own across the street from Trader Joe's.
Specializing in fresh produce and cheeses arranged among cheesy plastic hanging grape vines and baskets, Pacific Green has specialty cheeses not found at TJ, obviously at a bit higher price points. The produce prices are reasonable. There are also a lot of hard to find European food brands. The place is literally packed to the rafters.
It's a nice little market to quickly stop and go, especially if you don't feel like waiting in a double checkout line that circles the other store.
I've been popping in here for the past few months, at first when TJ's was out of fruits and veggies, but now I find myself coming here first. Everything looks fresh and ready to eat, and the prices are decent. Sometimes there are deals on packaged berries, and I've yet to have a bad peach from this place. The inside of the store is a bit small but packed to the gills–this is the place to go to find more specialty items. The women behind the counter are friendly and I always leave feeling good about what I'm going to eat. Card minimum is $5 I believe, which isn't too bad to reach.
Great produce for a fair price. I usually prefer buying my fruits and vegetables here over trader joes. Plus if you go around 9 pm you pretty much have the store to yourself.
