Really – "Wooohoo! As good at it gets!"
The line is serious on a weekend and everyone patiently waits. Don't forget to grab a # though mostly, you won't be near the ticket machine. There are a lot of italian treats lining the walls – so you come for the sandwiches, the mozzarella.. and you leave with cookies and 5 different kinds of beans.
The sandwiches are great. Each one is lovingly made to order, hence the wait.
You also know it's the real deal when little nonnas squeeze by you, give the cheese maker a kiss, and leave with the last of the buffalo mozz.
When I think about real deal Italian food, Casa Della Mozzarella definitely comes to mind.
Located off Arthur Avenue in the Bronx's Little Italy, Casa never fails to deliver the goods. Their namesake cheese is top-drawer and super fresh – so fresh that the cheese is sometimes still warm upon purchase. There's really nothing better – I swear I could pop those bocconcini like M&M's.
Besides the mozzarella, their other stuff is high quality and delicious. For holidays we usually serve a cold antipasto platter and always come to Casa for the components – the soppressata and variety of cheeses are awesome.
Be sure to come early since a line can form to get in (especially on weekends and right before holidays). This place is an Arthur Avenue institution and definitely worth a stop to pick something up.
We picked up sweet soppressata and burrata from here. You have to buy a whole sausage which is about 1/2lb each and they will slice it for you. The sausage was delicious and pairs well with the bread from Terranova! The burrata was also very good but I found the soft filling was not well distributed so some slices were just mozzarella.
Authentic like I've never had before. This is without a doubt an iconic, old school, cozy Italian spot for excellent Italian food! This is a get in and out type of place because it is so small, but the people are helpful and there is a lot to offer. I had never had smoked mozzarella before, so I ordered it here and it was incredible! The bocconcini is amazing, and the burrata is ridiculously fresh and creamy. If you're ever stuck on what to get, the people behind the counter do a great job of offering suggestions! The flavor of the mozzarella and burrata here is insane, I've been to plenty of Italian specialty shops and they all seem like a waste of time compared to this place. Hands down amazing, the quality of their cheese speaks for itself. Heaven is eating a big ball of mozzarella from this place!
I really can't say much that others haven't. The place is small. I mean 2 ppl can't stand side by side small. lol.
I've been so spoiled lately trying great quality cheese. I feel lucky to be so close (for now) to Casa Della Mozzarella. I ended up getting a pound of the mozzarella (salted) and 1/2 lb of sopprasatta…both were amazing. Although my cheese wasn't warm like other stated, it was still out of this world delicious! They certainly pack a lot of items in a small space…imported pastas, sauces, snacks, jams, olives, and other Italian delights. Next time, I'm going to try the Burrata cheese. For both items and a Bueno Bar (try this lil candy bar if you love nutella) it came out to $20…not so bad but that added up quick! lol…worth every dime. Overheard ppl talking saying where to go for other meats in the area…The people that come here know quality, delicious, authentic Italian food. I def can see this tiny spot getting n-u-t-s during the holidays. Def check this place out…you haven't had awesome mozzarella until you've come here!
The one thing that bothered me(obviously not enough to knock a star) was the girl at the register (yesterday 6/26) was on her cell phone. While waiting for my meat to be cut I said good morning and she was so into her cell phone that she didn't hear me. She was looking at the weather forecast for the week. Things like this get me pissed. I'm here spending my hard-earned money and here is this girl so preoccupied w/her cell that she can't even greet a customer! Shit like this is becoming the norm, although what we are paying for goods is increasing. I will say the counter guy that helped me was great and patient, thank God! So although she irked me, the guy that helped me along w/ the food was great. Guess you can't have it all in life.
Line was long, got lucky to score a pound of burrata and not that i needed but the sweet sopresatta looked good so i bought a pound of it. The burrata looked creamy and was freshly made. I had walked in to Joe's deli which also has great mozarella and burrata but they had run out of burrata.
The burrata was salted perfectly, the inside was dense, as i cut into the 1lb ball of cheese, i was able to cut clean slices to serve with the my spinach pasta and shrimp over home made tomato sauce. I like the fact that the inside was not very soft yet it was able to stand to be sliced perfectly. As a appetizer i did cut a few slices of burrata onto bread ( pepper and pork loaf) that was lightly toasted..omg super yumm!
Love la Casa Della Mozzarella to stock up on the freshest mozzarella and italian cheeses, prosciutto hams, antipasto, etc. They also literally feed you while they're serving you to ensure the food you're buying is to your liking – giving out huge samples of mozzarella and cured meats. YUM!
Come here for the mozzarella. It's some of the best in the city. I came with a group of friends, and we each had a piece, and no one talked for about 3 minutes while we were eating because it was so savory.
