Went on a Sunday night for dinner with my husband. We had walked past it a couple of weeks ago and I was intrigued. The restaurant was rather small but it did not bother me at all. I order the penne vodka pasta with shrimp. My meal could have been seasoned more. It tasted rather bland. My husband had the salmon and that was amazing. We also ordered crab cakes for an appetizer which I loved even though they were rather small.
Cheap quality food? Don't hear that too often. That's why Trufa is truly something special in Harlem. When we found out about this place we ended up eating there nearly every weekend.
Our first time we tried the food we ended up getting two entrees each. Not because the portions were small, but because we were starving and the food was just that good.
Simple dishes yet very flavorful, and not unhealthy either, and for an amazing price for Manhattan! What more could I ask for?
They usually have limited time specials, brunch is always my favorite. Soup is surprisingly good here. Cozy space, and homemade amazing desserts!
This place is small, and you are dangerously close to eating in the kitchen itself, but it's charming with a great menu selection!
I went to Trufa for a quick weekday lunch with a friend. More in a salad and appetizer mood, we opted to split the vegetable spring rolls and each get our own salads. The spring rolls, loaded with carrots, bean sprouts, and avocados, were absolutely delicious, bursting with flavor. The dipping sauce was great to, albeit a bit oily. For my salad, I went for the pear salad with arugula, pears, and Gorgonzola. The dressing was good and well distributed. The pears were a little under-ripe and crunchy, however. Still, I enjoyed the overall flavor of the salad. The caprese salad, which my friend ordered, looked a little bit anemic for the price, but she enjoyed it, which is all that matters. Haha.
Service was on point with a very kind server, and our water was refilled virtually after every one or two sips we took! We certainly stayed hydrated.
I'd definitely be willing to come back and try some more dishes.
Heard about this place so decided to give it a try. First and foremost its very small but surprisingly we didn't wait on a friday night. Very cute inside, nice art, friendly staff. Had a bit of a hard time understanding my waiter and I believe he didn't understand me as well because I ordered my burger Medium Well and I got a rather Medium Rare to Rare burger. However he was nice about it and sent it back to be redone.
So on to the other positives. The food was great. My gf got the special which was an amazing Pumpkin Ravioli with mushrooms. Absolutely delicious. I got the Hamilton Burger (goat cheese and bacon) and once cooked to my liking was also amazing. We also had the pear salad, which was very well done. It's a great place for a date. Small, intimate, and amazing food. One of those places your date will be impressed that you selected. Haven't tried the brunch yet but I've heard amazing things.
I came here for breakfast this weekend with a friend who lives in the neighborhood. We were looking for a place within walking distance of her apartment on 150th Street that was open for breakfast before 11am, and this place fit the bill.
Turns out we arrived just before the brunch rush — if we had gotten there 15 mins or so later there would have been nowhere to sit! The restaurant is small and there was only one server waiting on everyone. He proved to be very efficient though and was great about refilling our waters, checking to see if we needed anything, etc.
I had a veggie breakfast burrito and it was pretty good; a spinach tortilla filled with mostly squash, zucchini, and cauliflower. My only wish was for some hot sauce to accompany it!
Heads up there is a $10 minimum for credit cards.
So glad I was in the area and was able to try this place. The staff is very friendly and so helpful. Great people working here. Came on a Saturday for brunch. The food here is AMAZING! I had one of the specials forgot what it was called but it was basically a fat crispy buttery grilled ham and cheese sandwich with two Sunnyside up eggs on top. SO GOOD! Swiss cheese delicious ham and eggs with a crispy crust on the bread.
The only downside is that this restaurant is comically small. So don't plan on a private meal because you're going to be eating with everyone in the restaurant. There's only like 6 tables here. If someone has to use the bathroom half of the restaurant has to get up hahah. I thought it was hilarious. That being said the staff here is very accommodating to this fact and knows how to handle the space well. Overall it's a great place and a must try in my book!
I just moved to the neighborhood (literally late last night) and was starvin' Marvin'. Unwilling to unpack (I need *AT LEAST* 6-10 months for that, come on!) I quickly Yelped nearby vegan options. Luckily I found Trufa, who has many omnivorous and vegan / vegetarian dishes alike! We ordered pick-up, and drudged our way through back pain and muscle aches the grueling three blocks from my house.
Upon arriving, we notice it has a very nice interior, elegant and quaint.
Apologizing to the server, I ask if we can eat there instead, but were totally fine with eating off the to-go containers (explaining I just moved). She politely and enthusiastically sat us and re-plated our food beautifully maintaining a polite and pleasant attitude.
We ordered the portobello mushroom burger with pesto, red onions, lettuce -sans avocado on a toasted multigrain (had option for a sprouted brioche I believe?) which also came with a side of fries. Second dish, which I had more than my fair share of was gnocchi and mushrooms in a house-made red sauce (originally with beef, we ordered without + extra mushrooms instead).
Let's not forget about the full bar and housemade sangria using Broquel Malbec!
I was running on empty and needed something to eat. So as I got off at 137th Street stop I walked around the neighborhood. One thing I have learned over time is not to act off of impulse cause this saves a lot of grief and heartburn…ugggh.
So I spied this location and it had a favorable rating. When I saw beet salad with grilled chicken my thoughts were like yea thats the ticket.
The salad was very well prepared with plenty of greens, a nice grilled skinless chicken cutlet laying on top. The balsamic dressing added a nice even flavoring, there was even a boiled egg sliced and covering the rim of the plate.
I thought the egg wouldnt go well with the salad before I placed my order. But this false premonition was laid to rest when my mouth tasted the well balanced freshly made salad. There werent many beets as I had a imagined. Just a few slices, this would have made the salad superb in my opinion if more were added. I think beets are under-rated. There were bits of bacon scattered about not much that added a little salty flavor.
Over all a worthy destination if you ever uptown and dont wanna settle on fast food cause there is a lot of that all around. Service was friendly and prompt which is always a good thing.
