Small, cozy, a bit demure place; but they have serious drinks and food that are not demure. I like the small bar because the tables in dining area are very tiny that sitting there makes me feel it's even smaller.
This time around, my friend and I had two different cocktails each, and they were all good but a bit too light on alcohol.
We shared a salad with duck egg – yum. And risotto for main – not amazing but yum.
Very friendly staff.
We've been here twice. First was just for drinks, and their teta-a-teta was AMAZING. So we decided to come back and give their dinner a try. Services was great, interior has industrial chic feel to it. We got foie gras spead and tuna tartare to start, and risotto and trout as entrées. Maybe my expectation was too high, but everything was bland, not as wow & amazing as the cocktails. Both foie gras spead and tuna tartare were very average, I've had way better items somewhere else. My risotto was overcooked, my husband's trout, relatively speaking, was the best thing of the night, but on an absolutely scale, it was still just average. It was disappointing because I really wanted to love this place. I guess I will just be back for drinks.
Didn't blow me away, but this was a lovely spot for a date. The service was really great – all the waiters were fantastic, lovely, and so nice. The actual restaurant is very cozy and cute and felt really homey. The main thing was that the food, though great, wasn't particularly unique or amazing. It was tasty but I didn't feel like it was all that innovative. We had a very standard risotto with shrimp and a chicken beast with veggies.
Overall, I would come to Wallflower for a chill, cozy date night, but not necessarily to take your taste buds on a wild culinary ride.
Loved the cozy atmosphere of this place. Perfect for a date night. On a very quiet, beautiful street in the West Village. Love the decor and overall vibe of this place. More importantly, the service and the food was fantastic.
I regret not trying one of their specialty cocktails because they looked amazing, but the wine was good enough for me. I got the mushroom and asparagus risotto and it was delicious. A perfect meal. Very simple but just what I was looking for. The portions here aren't super large which I actually really like. I left feeling very satisfied and not overly full. The staff was super nice and laid back. I was here for a while(about 2 hours) and didn't feel rushed or anything which was great.
I can't wait to come back here and try the cocktails! Really happy I found this place and next time I'm in the West Village this will be at the top of my list if I need a good dinner and a drink. I couldn't give 5 stars because I definitely feel like the prices were a little out there for what the portions are. But, some people don't mind that. Overall, a great spot and I will definitely be coming back!
Had a very nice dinner here and below is my opinion of the following dishes (in order of preference):
Hamachi Crudo: appetizer; this was my favorite of the night. The hamachi paired with the sweet grapefruit and crunchy almond slices was perfect
Trout: entree; cooked and seasoned perfectly with dollops of a green sauce was great but unsure of flavor. Over a bed of roasted potatoes, olives and peppers.
Tuna Tartare: appetizer; can't go wrong with this
Fingerling Potatoes: side dish delicious when dipped in that saffron aioli
Jerk Spiced Quail: to my pleasure this was not very spicy. The amount of quail though was minimum. Served ontop of crispy romaine with a Cesar style dressing. It was good but it was my least favorite.
Was surprised at the variety of craft cocktails, didn't try any but would like to come back and do so.
Small place so expect a wait or definitely make reservations.
Not too terribly impressed with this place. Cocktails were on point, delightfully refreshing watermelon and gin mix with some sort of sour bitters. Multidimensional flavor. Tuna tar tar was a tiny portion ($19) and unseasoned. Served with small potato chips I'm sure to add some salt flavoring but would've been better had they added black koi salt instead of sesame or pickled the radishes it came with, just really lacking. Trout ($26) and succotash was good, however the seasoning again, was lacking. Tasted like they'd substituted lemon zest for salt and the dabs beens were very start by and underdone. Would go back for drinks, not for food.
Located in the heart of West Village, Wallflower recently introduced a new brunch menu that highlights seasonal ingredients. These are some of the items you must order.
Heirloom Tomato Salad
As delicious as it is colorful, this dish features sliced, tri-colored heirloom tomatoes over a drizzle of olive oil. The tangy blue cheese, crunchy olive croutons, and fresh opal basil add nice flavors and texture to the dish.
Frittata
This crustless quiche is chock full of vegetables like asparagus, oyster mushroom, and fingerling potato that all wrap around cooked eggs and sharp pecorino pepato. The fresh greens and beets on top are great "toppings" that adds a bit of crunch to the dish.
Bacon Quesadilla
You will never look at quesadilla the same way again after trying the Bacon Quesadilla from Wallflower. Topped with fried egg, the quesadilla has perfectly crispy exterior and is filled with goodies like bacon, jalapeno, and pepper jack cheese. Be sure to pair it with the tomato salsa on the side.
Mediterranean Burger
Certainly not your typical burger, the Mediterranean Burger highlights juicy burger patty sandwiched in between rolls that are smeared with feta aioli on the top and olive tapenade on the bottom. The burger comes with a side of roasted fingerling potatoes and Greek salad with sun-dried tomatoes and olives.
Caramelized Bread Pudding
Featuring rich, dense bread pudding that has been caramelized on the outside, the Caramelized Bread Pudding is the ultimate way to satisfy your sweet cravings. The bread pudding is topped with drunken cream and fresh strawberries, and also comes on a plate smeared with nutella and strawberry jam.
Cookies & Coffee Milk
All brunch experience at Wallflower should end with this: Cookies & Coffee Milk. While it may appear to be a rather simple "dish," Cookies & Coffee Milk is a truly unique combination you have never experienced before. The Rhode Island Coffee Milk – a combination of coffee syrup and milk – tastes like coffee ice cream on steroid, while the freshly baked cookies just melt in your mouth.
Very small, quaint place. Food was pretty good.
Food:
Foie gras mousse – pretty good
Chèvre cheese – delicious
Tuna tartare – ok but I'm not a big fan of tuna
Risotto – pretty good
