Grandma loves steak so we decided to have her 88th birthday dinner at George Martin. The reservation was for 19 people so they offered us the private room. Perfect for the occasion! The setup was great!
The service was great as well. There were two servers put on our party and they were very patient, friendly, and prompt.
Everyone loved the food. All 19 of us! I ordered the Half Rack Ribs with a baked potato and it was excellent. The half rack was huge and so tender. They had a lot of meat on them and the BBQ sauce was delicious!
I had the honor of sitting next to the birthday girl and she ordered the 8oz filet mignon. Grandma said this is how a steak is supposed to be cooked. She said it's well done but still juicy and good. She loved their house steak sauce too.
Grandma's birthday dinner was a success thanks to George Martin. I will definitely revisit and recommend.
I'm assuming, as the "original", this place had to have done well enough to call for a chain of restaurants. I'm not quite sure how this place stays in business. Although it was pretty crowded, it lacks the details to upkeep it's reputation as the flagship of George Martin's restaurant group.
We opted for the restaurant week menu. We shared the calamari and meatball appetizers. The calamari was served with a COLD sauce. Not even room tempature…COLD. I will applaud the aioli that was served on top of the calamari, however. The meatballs were good, but nothing I can't make at home.
For my entree, I got the steak frites. The steak was not seasoned at all. A slab of butter was served on top of it, which is completely unnecessary. The creamed spinach did not taste very spinach-y.
We got the brownie sundae for dessert. Chocolate cake does not a brownie make. Brownie, especially in a sundae, should be ooey, gooey, and warm.
The waitress was nice, so I'll give them that.
I would have given this place a 3, as there was nothing particularly BAD about the meal (but then again there was nothing particularly good about it either). However, my boyfriend got sick after.
Hey, at least we tried.
George Martin restaurant has the ambience of a traditional steak house with the wood accents and the roomy dining room. They are known for their wide variety of steaks, chops, seafood and as well as fresh salads and pasta. You also got to love their Pop up breads that they serve before dinner. We had their Chicken Milanese Sandwich as an entrée which was good, but we will return to try their steak and seafood.
We came here for restaurant week, and we will definitely be back.
The decor and feel was right up my ally, also their mixed drinks as well. I was quite content with my dark and stormy.
Our food was great…from appetizers to desert. Everything was delicious not a single complaint.
Our waitress Paulette was so sincere and nice, she was a pleasure to have.
The negative reviews on this one don't seem to hold much water, don't miss out on this one. Its a nice change from the over done restaurants and other bars in the area.
Wasn't expecting much since I'm not a huge fan of Grillfire or George Martin burger bar. I was wrong. My boyfriend and I went last night for dinner since it's Long Island restaurant week. You each get an appetizer, entree and dessert for $27.95. I had the polenta crusted calamari, cauliflower ravioli and the GM brownie sundae. Everything was perfectly portioned. The drinks were spot on. Definitely recommend this place as a quiet date not spot!
So you go out for Easter dinner with your family of 8 adults and you find yourself at George Martin.. A beautiful location and my family is seated at a table where all 8 of us have zero room to move and we felt a little tight, but it was a holiday so we just tried to enjoy it!
Easter dinner makes you think that they would have more of a special menu and maybe offer a rack of lamb or ham, but alas NO, there were lamb chops on special, and another dish, but only 2 specials and it felt like it was just another Sunday and not Easter. So this was a little disappointing. Our table didn't order appetizers because we wanted to have enough room for our entrees, and I was very glad that I didn't eat anything but a piece of bread (which was delicious) because my short rib entree was OFF THE HOOK Yummy!!! If I could lick the plate I would have!!! While a dessert menu was brought over to us, since it was Easter I had made my Easter Bunny cake so we didn't have dessert, but they did look yummy when I saw them.
Overall, while I would have liked a more special menu for Easter, the food was yummy and I can say that if I am in the area to have a nice meal again I would come here. I've been to a sister location out in East Islip before and it's good to see that the service and food are the same!
So thank you George Martin for giving my family a break from cooking for the holiday and letting us have a delicious meal!!
I've never been disappointed by this place. It's good for a night out, holidays, events, even take out– you name it I've done it here. Which is why I only give it four stars. The service and servers are always excellent, but the management has an arrogance about it that keeps me away sometimes. It's like they know how good they are and they don't need you. This might be a highly personal issue, perhaps speaking to my own insecurities; but George Martin (to me) is the only Rockville Centre restaurant that makes me feel this way.
As for the food, my wife loves the creamed spinach and the green market salad with tuna. I have scored with short ribs, skirt steak, and the onion soup hands down the best I've ever had in my life. A delicious humus and bread come to the table before you can even begin to look at the menu –this place really has it going on; it's to bad (for me) that they are so hyper aware of it that the atmosphere can be unwelcoming.
I haven't been here in a while and came back for restaurant week and had a great time w the Wife!,after a long hard week of work we just wanted a nice quiet delicious dinner in a nice setting and that's exactly what we got! The special included one appetizer each one entrée each and one dessert each for 27.95, this is a very good deal espec here considering their prices are slightly inflated but still well worth it in regards to the quality of the food, anyway we were the first ones to arrive at 5 o'clock and were graciously seated by the general manager Mike who was extremely courteous from the beginning,I really love the lighting, overhead music and old-time feel in this place,it's really late out nice and much bigger then you expect, we chose a comfortable booth in the front near the bar,We were served warm fresh bread w 3 different butters right away, nice touch,Rachel our server came over shortly after and she was just as courteous,we ordered the fried calamari and frisse salad for appetizers,The calamari was nicely prepared with three different dipping sauces one tomato which had a lot of flavor one was a beautiful pesto and the third was like a lemon ranch,my wife really enjoyed the salad which had Gorgonzola grapes and a light citrus dressing i believe,we decided to add the Burrata mozzarella off the regular menu for a middle course and it was spot on creamy and mouthwatering along with the tomatoes it was served with,it paired very nice wine w the wine Rachel recommended ,for dinner i had the pork medallions and my wife had the chicken my medallions were cooked to perfection with a roasted pear sauce along with the whipped gorgonzola potatoes I was completely satisfied,my wife enjoyed her chicken she is on a health kick and was totally satisfied as well it was nicely seasoned and both were very good portions! Yes we still had a room for dessert though lol but only ate half the brownie sundae and the Keylime pie tasted as homemade as you can get!scrumptious! All in all we had a very very good experience although i left off one star because our server took a little while to bring our drinks and extra sauce for the calamari but no big deal,We look forward to coming back to this fine establishment in the heart of good ol'Rockville Centre very soon!
