This is really in the 3.5 range. I am giving them 3 stars because this is really not a "As good as it gets" type of place, but a very nice place nonetheless.
I visited L'Escale with my boyfriend and his family during brunch. The service was wonderful and the ambiance was dreamy. It seemed like a place you would host a wedding or event as the dining room was big and bright, and the decor was understated but very effective. What I am trying to say is that I felt good being there, looking over the water, and drinking my brunch bloody mary.
So yes, the service was good and all of the servers are very attentive. However, the food was just average. From the bread, to my butternut squash soup, to my entree (omelet), to my dessert, nothing wowed me to the point that they bump up to four stars. It was boring food in a beautiful space. What a shame.
Aside from creepy, leery old dudes flooding the bar area, L'Escale is wonderful.
Wines by the glass utterly amazing.
Drink concoctions fabulous. "How to Marry a Millionaire" – as long as it's not one of the creepy leeries.
Food is truly outstanding, creative, inventive and fresh.
Harbor side dining A+. Makes you feel far away.
Ambience – bar is super cool, almost a hip swanky Parisian vibe. Dining room itself formal.
Really great place. You can't go wrong here.
I can some this up in two words. Horrible service… or .. no service.
My gf and I came here on recommendation. Pulling up it was nice to see valet available and the line of high end cars and a Bentley definetly gave the expression of class. The weather was beautiful and most places offered outdoor seating and we were hoping to take in the scenery as well as soak up some sun.
Upon walking in the hostess seem rather flustered and unfriendly. She said the outside was closed. Perhaps in a middle of shift change.. (I assume as it was almost 5pm) but that's no excuse to be dismissive. We opted to sit at a table by the bar section as the dining room was closed as well. Sat here for nearly 15 minutes without even a hello or perhaps a menu. The waitress must have walked past us 5 times serving tables directly next to us and I mean less than 2 feet away… no one came over to us the entire time here. After getting annoyed and rather thirsty we got up and stood by the bar which is small so the 8 people there had it totally filled. The bartender was not helpful either and we were completely ignored.
Perhaps the fact that I drove up with a BMW instead of a Bentley meant I didn't deserve anyone to look up or even respond to us. I'm certain 2 beautiful tall women would be noticeable.
I expect a Lot more from a supposed high end restaurant.
Running into 1 bad employee is bad enough but then to be ignored by 3 means I won't be back to even give it a second chance.
The seating outdoors by the water was very nice on a warm day. The service was good.
The food though was a complete let down. Out of 4 of us, none of us thought our dishes were very good. The tuna nicoise salad I had was drenched in way too much oil. It ruined everything in the salad and the pieces of tuna tasted too fishy. Really I should have sent it back. At the prices they ask, the food needs to be much
much better. My mom commented at the end to the waiter how the meal could be so different/so much worse this time around than when they were there earlier in the year. He pretty much shrugged his shoulders…like he knew!
We had a private party of about 25-30 people here and from what I saw all the people were very happy. It's located in a gorgeous touched up 'historic' hotel.
I'm not sure if what I had was vegan or vegetarian, but I had a salad and gnocchi. The salad was very tasty and the gnocchi was amazing.
Also, the balcony was really nice and you could see a nice river from the top. Would definitely go here again for dinner.
Simply put, this is a little piece of Monaco just outside New York City!

It's always a bit of a car show as you pull up to the valet. Walk in and you have three options: sit in the lounge area, the main dining room, or outside next to the boats. Surely it does depend on the seasons. I have sat in the dining area a few times on a sunny Sunday morning for brunch, which by the way is excellent. The lounge area is perfect for a Friday or Saturday night when it turns into a classic piano bar with a classy and very upscale crowd. And the outdoors is ideal for an evening meal while watching the sunset. There is also an outdoor bar which opens at 3pm which is a great hangout.
I've been there over 10 times so this review is a bit overdue. I went there last night again so this review is fresh.
Now for the food – it's an excellent menu and really well thought out. The seafood is always fresh and the flavors are never overbearing. There's something for everyone, even vegetarians! Try the truffle risotto… a must do dessert is the Black and White Soufflé, which is unique to this place. A hidden gem on the wine list is the Cade Sauvignon Blanc which people would easily miss and not too pricey.
The steak here is also good and quite hearty during the winter months.
As for service, they like to take it slow, so never go if you're in a rush to get somewhere. For you city folk, surprise your date with a nice little drive up the coast and be transported to Europe! And because it's connected to a hotel, you may even want to spend a night. The SPA I hear is excellent. There's also a small cruise if you so choose. And a short walk will get you to downtown Greenwich which is filled with shops and restaurants.
So, this is my go to place if I want to relax and "get away"! It will most likely be yours too!
Ambience is inviting, sophisticated ,catering to the" yacht crowd" with a wonderful outdoor setting overlooking Greenwich Harbor. Service was prompt and the staff was polite, involved and helpful. L'escale was a mixed bag of the" good , bad and the ugly'. The "good" was the "port of call mediteranean – like ambience", wonderful drink and wine selections and the outdoor bar . The halbut was reportedly very good( I, personally would have rated it ,just another halibut) …the bouillabaisse and the lamb chops were reportedly good by two of our group members. The tuna tartar and grilled octopus were OK, but had a " been there , done that" forgettable presentation. The "ugly" was a fishy tasting dorade and a beet salad that looked like the remnants of an earthquake and finally , some of the prices…all entrees containing high cholesterol were well over $40. The desserts were "just there" and not bad,but not memorable. Athough all of us could afford the high tariffs, which could easily approach $ 100 per person, better cuisine can be had elswhere for much less. Nevertheless, I would return for the ambience without any great culinary expectations. L'escale is a haven for yachts but not foodies.
I was staying at the Delamar, so the trip to the restaurant took all of 60 seconds. We started out with a private, single malt tasting on the terrace. Great Scotch and a great view. We then moved inside and began with a yellow and red beet salad, with goat cheese and a balsamic vinaigrette. "You had me at beets," (sorry Jerry Maguire). They were delicious. Next came a very nice mustard crusted filet mignon, with a potato onion tart, haricot vert, and three peppercorn sauce. For dessert was a decadent, warm Valrhona chocolate cake. Afterward, it was wine on the terrace. It was a lot of fun.
