Legends New York City

“I'll have to thank David Hirshey for continuously mentioning the Football Factory on his weekly column…even if he is a Gooner.”

“But that's done, if you're looking for a place to watch soccer in NYC, check out Legends.”

“The crowd has always been energized when I've visited, and there are enough TVs here to catch whatever sporting event strikes your interest.”

  1. Came here for a few drinks. The only staff that I thought were sweet was the host. The rest were alright. You won't be able to hear your friends so make sure you either speak loud, or only go if you're already intoxicated.

  2. Good if you want to watch soccer and you enjoy the atmosphere from a crowd and want dedicated sound. This place will play soccer for you. Not so good if you want good food or mediocre food that doesn't cost a lot (you're going to get very mediocre bar food that costs a lot). This place is huge but it's in midtown and you're still going to have to get here pretty early for big games if you want a good seat.

  3. I went to Legends New York City for a VCU social before Duke vs. VCU basketball game at Madison Square Garden. The social was held upstairs. It's two levels in the restaurant. Legends New York City has a lively ambience and plenty of televisions to watch sports. Upstairs has comfortable seating (furniture chairs). Staff was attentive at the social. I didn't eat any food here. Drinks were prepared well by our bartender. I didn't stay long but I'll definitely comeback again to watch sports. I give Legends New York City a 3.5 rating on my first visit. I'll update my review once I eat food here.

  4. Came for a vcu alumni pre game event. Good happy hour selection and prices. Fries were above average, great seasoning. Pizza was average. Pot pie average as well. Only complaint would be that service was slow (but they were slammed) and that the womens bathroom only had 1 stall.

  5. Conveniently located behind the Empire State Building, this 3 story sports bar and restaurant attracts a mix of tourists as well as blue collar 9 to 5ers. I come here for multiple occasions and frequently. Sometimes, for happy hours with coworkers, and sometimes, with coworkers for going away parties, birthdays and all sorts of other made up celebration type parties which are really just excuses to consume alcoholic beverages. Nick the bartender is awesome. He is a mixologist, so don't be afraid to order complicated drinks. He has a lot of patience and great recommendations. The sweet thai chili wings here are my favorite. The manager, Diana is always so accommodating, she sets a prime example for all restaurant managers on how a sizable restaurant/bar should be managed. There are 3 floors and flat screens EVERYWHERE. I recommend this place to people who like to eat wings while watching games, fights and drinkies.

  6. Been here a few times to watch the recent Euro/Copa America games. I normally try to head downstairs (where Football Factory is) but the last few times I've gone it's either been to crowded or we were seated at a dining table.

Place is huge, with Footbal Factory downstairs, the main bar area on the ground level and then a smaller bar area upstairs (sort of like a balcony area). TVs everywhere with different seating set ups in different areas — bar seating, high-top tables, booths, regular dining tables, and living room-style couches upstairs.

Food is your standard bar food – nothing great but not the worst. Service is pretty attentive when it's not busy and understandably a bit slower when it is.

If this place is too crowded for your taste, there are plenty of smaller Irish pubs on the same street, just one or two blocks in either direction.

  7. An unassuming place right across the street from the Empire State Building. I would have never noticed it if I hadn't joined the rest of the crew for a drink after work. It is much more spacious on the inside than it seems from the outside. In addition to the main bar area downstairs, there is also a smaller bar upstairs where there are a ton of couches arranged in a cozy manner.

It was jam packed for a Tuesday night – I'm assuming there was a game going on, because everyone was riled up! Still, our group of 8 was able to find an area to sit comfortably together in the upstairs area.

Happy hour prices are fantastic. A gin and tonic was $6 and a tap beer was only $4. Really, really great, especially for the midtown area! PS. There is a $10 minimum on credit cards, so bring cash if you are only planning on getting a beer or two.

  8. It was a Saturday night that found me and my group of friends looking for a bar in midtown to watch the UFC fight. It took me a couple of minutes to remember Legends, and it had been a couple of years since I was there for a UFC fight, but sure enough, they were showing it.

If you are unfamiliar with Legends, let me say that it is a pretty big bar. There are three levels, all with bars and TVs everywhere showing all kinds of sports, although on UFC night that is all they're showing unless you have a special request. When we arrived at 10:30 pm, it was already getting packed, but we managed to find a table all the way in the back.

Legends' drink prices are pretty decent compared to other midtown joints. Beers cost $7 and cocktails cost $10. The food is a little pricier, but I guess one doesn't come to a bar to eat anyway. In our particular case, the service started off great, with our waitress being very attentive, but toward the end of the night she was nowhere to be found, so luckily, other waiters were around to help with our requests.

Overall, I would recommend Legends to others, especially for UFC fight nights.
