  1. My mom, aunt, boyfriend, and I were all in the city one day for various reasons. We decided to meet for lunch. I was wandering around this area looking for a restaurant to try that wasn't french or a fortune. The simple menu had something to suit everybody and their outside seating on a beautiful day sold us. We were all satisfied and I'd return. The only thing I wasn't happy about was the bread. My aunt had the portobello sandwich, the mushrooms were perfectly marinated and juicy. It was soo good. I had their ginger carrot soup and i would have that again. Overall the experience was simple and pleasant, and light on our wallets. No one minded us lingering around over coffee for hours talking either.

  2. This is the very epitome of an UES establishment that has lost its shine. The interiors are outdated and the outside looks shabby next to Sarabeth's. The service was decent but the food was really sub par. At our table of 6, we had 3 yellowfin tuna burgers, a seared yellowfin tuna steak, a plain burger, and a salad. I wasn't hungry, which is why I didn't splurge on something richer (and more $$$) but now I'm deterred completely from ever doing so. I specifically asked the waitress that my tuna be medium, and it came well done, while others with the same order had it overdone. It was dry and crumbled with no moisture or seasoning. The sweet potato fries were the highlight of my abysmal plate and there were no more than 10 to enjoy. I will not be coming back and will likely steer others from doing so as well.

  3. This wasn't bad but just not that great. The menu itself was not impressive, the service was mediocre, nothing special about the decor/space. Came her for brunch and the food was fine but nothing special. Many better places in the area.

  4. I was staying at the Hotel Wales and needed a close place for dinner.  This was right next door.  It was an interesting experience.  There is quite a bit of seating.  There weren't a lot of people while I was there, maybe about 4 or 5 other tables.  I felt like I could hear everyone's conversation.  It was a weird experience.  It seemed so loud with so few people.

The food was delicious. I started with a ceasar salad.  I ordered the rigatoni which was prepared with crumbled sausage, tomatoes and broccoli. It had a nice little spice to it and was so flavorful.  I finished off the meal with Maine Blueberry Cobbler.  Served warm with vanilla ice cream…YUM!

The downside was the service, not only at my table but at the others.  The waitresses were standing around talking while people were waiting to order, or wanted drink refills etc.  I waited quite a long time to order my dessert and had to ask the hostess to have my waitress bring the bill.

Other than that it was a good experience.

  5. This Carnegie Hill eatery has been serving decent food and good drinks for decades. It's preppy nautical decor has hardly changed over the years, which is good–it's smart looking. There are no outstanding dishes to recommend, but the food is satisfying. Not surprisingly,  the prices are consistent with its affluent UES clientele Still, I enjoy the mood of the place and people-watching here (this is the heart of preppy on the UES). It's a nice place to go if you're checking out any of the nearby museums, especially for a weekend lunch. I cannot recommend it as a destination restaurant if you're looking for interesting food and predictable service. Frankly, it used to be much better, but it has that decor and casual preppy feel that pulls me back from time to time.

  6. I like the decor, it looks like the inside of a classic ship.
    Service is good.
Timo is the hostess with the mostest.
The lobster role is the thing to get here when they have it.
A buttery pile of lobster, so fresh and well prepared. Nice crispy shoestring fries on the side.
Crab cake also very good, nice pretzel topping.
I don't like the steep and dark staircase leading down to the restroom.
