I feel a little conflicted writing this. I have been a regular customer of The Park View since 2013. Additionally, since moving to Inwood in September 2014, this place has become a staple for myself and the beau. Those nights when I haven't felt like making dinner nor ordering take out have been rescued by The Park View and their wonderful grilled cheese sandwiches, burgers, salads, and sizzling cast-iron platters of mac & cheese. The food is consistently good, the atmosphere is great, and the waitstaff is very friendly.
Though, since I've been a regular customer, and despite being a very ardent fan, I've noticed some cracks in the facade.
The service, as many have mentioned, can be slow, and I can certainly attest to it. Though, in my last few visits in October and November, for both dinner and brunch, I've seen an improvement. Brunch is worse than dinner, though. I took a friend there for brunch in November (her first visit), and we did not get menus for 10 minutes. We didn't order until almost 25 minutes after we were seated. Our waitress told us to flag her down if we needed her, but she stayed perched behind the bar or near the food window in the rear, making it hard to get her attention. Our busboy was infinitely more attentive. On evenings when I've been here and the dining area has been roughly 1/4 full, it's still hard to get the attention of staff if they are near the kitchen or speaking to bar backs. They will chat for a bit.
Also, consistency in looking at IDs needs to be solidified. I am of legal drinking age, 31 years old as of this moment in which I'm typing this. (Yes, I'll proudly state my age! Ha! ) However, I've been told I look much younger (…lucky me!) and almost always get IDed when buying liquor virtually anywhere I go. One night, two weeks ago, I ordered a drink with my dinner. The waitress looked at my driver's license, which had expired a couple weeks prior. She declined me alcohol because she said it wasn't considered a valid ID, though my birth date was displayed. You know what? Fair enough. I say that honestly and sans sarcasm. I was bummed I couldn't get a drink, but certainly can't be mad at a waitress for being diligent regarding legally serving alcohol. However, my boyfriend, who is 29, has been served alcohol here many times over the past few years. They have IDed him…and he has been served despite the fact that his ID has been expired since 2012. (After being sick a few years back, he hasn't driven, so hasn't been in a rush to renew it. Heh.) Granted, he looks much older than me despite being younger than me (…cruel fate? Haha…), but how come he can be served alcohol with an expired ID and I'm declined? In fairness to all patrons, I believe that the rule of not serving to patrons with invalid IDs needs to be enforced and consistent.
I still go. I am still going to go. As mentioned, I'm consistently pleased by the food and the waitstaff has always been kind to me. They need to work on their actual service regarding…well…serving! There have been many times where I've felt irritated by the lack of it, but have always put on a kind face, because perhaps service is slow for reasons I am not understanding. (At least, I hope so.)
Note: I have since had my license renewed, so I can drink here again. *WOOHOO* Hello again, hard cider cocktails! I've missed you!
Really cute place! I came here for lunch with my guy after a loooooooong walk up the riverside park and then through Fort Tryon and the cloisters.
A few quick points:
-The ambience is great – exposed brick, industrial lighting, wood everywhere. It is situated facing the park and gets really great afternoon light.
-The food is good, decently priced, and come in large portions (we had a couple of sandwiches that really hit the spot – portobello sandwich especially)
-Coffee, tea, natural sodas, and beer/wine!
-Service is great
-Cash only
This is right near my job and a I have been a few times with my workmates for dinner.
That being said they don't take reservations and it can be a challenge if you have a 8+ large party, as they seating is not large and there are no large tables.
That being said, the food is pretty good- for a go to staple all of the varietys of gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches are worth a try. On my last visit, they got my friend's order wrong two times! First it came out burnt and then the second time her sandwich did not have the apples as stated in the menu. We let is slide, but Seriously?
Atmosphere is on the quiet side, but I have been here in a large party and fellow customers have looked at us like "Shut Up" Maybe that's why there is no hard alcohol, just wine or wine based drinks. Given the location on Dyckman, I am not going to complain, as it's nice to have vegetarian options nearby.
Wow. What a transformation! This place has been gutted from the inside out and turned into a classy, romantic and upscale spot. What an excellent addition to the ever-changing Inwood (Northernmost part of Manhattan). The neighborhood is slowly becoming a hidden gem that I recommend everyone visit at least once, especially on a quiet weeknight to avoid the weekend crowds.
This place is situated adjacent to a brand new Starbucks (add a cool point). They serve creative cocktails (all wine based!), teas, coffee, wine and best of all an excellent food selection. I ordered a sangria which was very good. The Chicken Sandwich was delicious with the hint of pesto and mozzarella. The bread contains black olives which I don't think I've had before but was a perfect touch. You have a choice of fries or greens. The music was not very loud and complimented the romantic mood. Literally felt like I was in the West Village.
They offer happy hour and brunch. On Thu-Sun they have a second happy hour from 9pm-midnight. I will be revisiting this place soon. Very impressed.
The Cobb salad here is intensely fresh, with a generous serving of bacon and fresh avocado. The coffee is also incredible. It is a nice place to work if you need to spread out and read for a bit. It is cash-only, which I find somewhat absurd in today's day-and-age, but what can you do?
It's high end gastropub type food with whole foods granola twists (eg a burger served on pita). Overall not bad and nice service and decor. Plus close to the park and probably a great place to eat in the summer even though I haven't done that yet. Had the calamari and the lamb burger.
So why 3 stars only? Simple. NO CREDIT CARDS, CASH ONLY. What is this: 1982?! No, it's 2016. Do what most people do: pass the credit card company transaction costs onto the consumer with a slight price hike, worth the convenience savings from not having to go to the Bank of America across the street, where you'll have to pay an ATM fee anyway.
I'll be back, just not as frequently, until they change this.
This is a nice laid back place on the very busy stretch of Dyckman street.
The food isn't anything out of this world, but I enjoy sitting somewhere for a drink without being surrounded by hookah everywhere.
Their brunch menu is pretty solid, typical omelets and sandwiches. In the summer they they open the big windows, so there's lot of fresh air and a chill vibe.
If you are looking for a chill spot within all the craziness that is around there, this is the place to go.
Popped in here on the recommendation of a friend, and we really liked it, so I'm surprised the Yelp reviews aren't a bit better. We had the green omelette with spinach, avocado, scallions and green tomatoes which came with four slices of simple brown bread, butter and jam and chips for $9. The food is fairly simple but delicious and reasonably priced for the size of the portions and the ambience.
A couple of things that were slightly off: firstly, their happy hours (all drinks $5) are from 11-2 and 4-7, we were there from 2-4 and the place was completely empty so I have no idea why they don't offer happy hour prices at that time. We probably would have had a couple of drinks if they did. Another oddity was that none of the omelettes on the menu have any cheese, and the make-your-own omelette list had lots of cheeses but was missing a few of the ingredients from the list of omelettes!
