Basically, this restaurant is a mess. They need to get their act together. I was staying next door at the sister hotel and decided to come in for dinner. I had a long day and just didn't feel like messing around looking for a place. My first clue should have been how empty it was. But it was sort of early and I just attributed it to that.
The menu I was given was completely different from the online menu. The online menu boasts a bunch of sliders to choose from and that's what I wanted. On their "new menu" they only have four. So I chose 3 of the four- the Korean short rib on a bao bun, the tandoori chicken, and the shrimp. Literally they were all so flavorless I couldn't even believe it. Plus for $15 there is not much meat on those sliders. There was one shrimp, a tiny piece of chicken, and a piece of beef. I also got the sweet potato fries which were just Gordon Food Service stuff.
I chose two wines, first a cab and then a malbec. Their wine list wasn't huge but it was super pricey. Both wines were not good. Luckily when I received my bill, the wine was cheaper than the stated price on the menu. That's good but why wasn't the correct price on the menu? I would not eat here again because the food was just beyond mediocre.
The dining area has a modern cozy atmosphere interior is warm and cozy. Their bar I comfortable and well positioned away from the dining room. I had ordered a "New York, New York" burger with sweet potato fries which was very good. Also the prices are very reasonable. I noticed when our bill was higher than I expected that there are no refills on the soft drinks.
After a long day exploring the city and going to an event at Barclay Stadium in Brooklyn, we were looking for a quick bite before retiring to our hotel room for the night. We came across this restaurant and popped in for a burger. We were greeted by a very friendly hostess Carolina, who explained that although they were ready to close in 10 minutes we were welcomed to order and eat something in the bar area. We felt like we would be imposing if we did and decided to order take out instead. She took her time going over the menu options and making sure we got exactly what we wanted. I really appreciated her attentiveness and eagerness to serve with out feeling rushed. I ordered the New York, New York Burger w cheddar cheese and a side of Bacon and my husband had their double burger w cheddar cheese and bacon. We also ordered one side of fries as Carolina advised us that it would be enough to share between the two of us. It was a short walk to our hotel and I was happy that when we went to eat our food it was still hot. I can't stand eating cold food that was meant to be hot. The burgers were prepared exactly to our liking and were very juicy and tasty. The flavor was really on point! The fries were delicious as well and more than enough for both of us. We will be going back there for breakfast tomorrow with the hopes of getting the same excellent service and quality of food we received today. After all, good service is hard to find…. Kudos to this restaurant and kudos to Carolina! Keep up the good work..!!
I came here for lunch with my friend during the work day and we were both pleasantly surprised at how delicious our burgers were! I don't see the burger I ordered on their online menu but it had avocado and jalapeños on it (basically a Mexican burger) and it was cooked to perfection! A nice surprise was that pico de gallo was spread on the bottom of the incredibly fresh brioche bun, under the burger. I don't treat myself to burgers too often but I am SO glad I chose to do so at this restaurant.
The only issue I had with this place was how long it took for our burgers to come out, especially since we ordered them medium rare. We also didn't order any appetizers and the burgers don't come with any sides unless you choose to order something at an additional cost. We had to eat pretty quickly so that we'd get back to work in time and we had to chase down our waitress for the bill, who by the way never came over once to see how we were enjoying the food. If I was there after work and not in a rush I would have really enjoyed my experience, I'm just not sure this is a good lunch place during a work day. Good to know it's right in the neighborhood though, could be a great after work spot!
Walked by this place a bunch of times and decided to give it a go during a lunch break.
Atmosphere: the place is actually quite nicer then I anticipated. Pretty large inside or maybe it just looked that big because we were the only customers at that time.
Beer: They had an OK beer list. I ordered a beer that fit my style and what do you know, they didn't have it. I would think they would inform you if something on the menu wasn't available.
Food: the deal is great. I had three mix and match sliders for $12 which in midtown is pretty good. The problem with these were the bread to protein ratio. To me, they're wasn't enough stuff in between the buns. Good taste though which is a plus.
Service: seemed friendly but I wouldn't say he was any good. When we got our bill, we were charged for the beer that I didn't receive. I wouldn't mind coming here again with a larger group, but it's not going to be at the top of my list
It's hard; I really wanted to like this spot. The decor was modern and chic without being too pretentious and the staff was more than friendly and courteous. Some nice rotating handles on tap and the spirit selection isn't half bad.
But the food is more than half bad… It's nothing at all to write home about. So it's a burger joint… With pizza and other items too… But you'd think the burgers would be worthwhile if it's in the name, right? Wrong. My friend ordered a burger with beef and I had the "spicy" chipotle chicken burger. We came to find that something was the exact same on both: the size, shape, and grill marks of the burgers (not to mention a lovely rubber taste and chewiness much like pink slime). Makes me wonder if they actually made their own patties by hand (like you would expect from a "artisan burger bar" or used a Sysco multipack frozen option.
Toppings? Yes they were there, all four pieces of arugula on the chicken burger and one dead-center splotch of "chipotle" sauce. Makes me think the line cook was recently hired from McDonald's… Pair it all up with a $5 side of stone-cold sweet potato fries (also made me think of a frozen aisle variety) and it's just an overall awful dining experience.
Trust me – just go somewhere else.
Beer & Buns is not a large restaurant but a very nice setup with tremendous burgers! I ordered the salmon, the crab, and the short rib. They were beautifully exhibited and they tasted delicious!
We shared onion rings, sweet potato fries, and regular fries. All were hot, crunchy, and tasty.
Would definitely recommend this spot for lunch or dinner!
This has become a regular lunch spot for me and a friend who works nearby. They serve a good, solid burger. I like the variety and I particularly like the slider combos because you can pick three of the options offered. Burgers to date have been juicy and flavorful. I wish the shrimp burger offered as a slider was an option on the big burger menu – it's really tasty. Service is very friendly. My only reason for three start and not four is that fries are not included with a burger order. And while they give you a good-sized side portion for $4 (my friend and I usually share an order), the fries are irregular: sometimes they are nice and crispy and others not so much.
