Went for National Sandwich Month Monday Special
Food – 3/5. The sourdough bread and creamy whipped butter they start you off with has good flavor. The Lobster & Shrimp Roll BLT however is pretty disappointing. The ratio is overwhelmingly shrimp and the flavor of the seafood tastes of just being boiled with massive amounts of cilantro mixed into it. Looking at the other items on their menu, it really feels like they took ceviche, put it on top of a buttered texas toast and called it a day. The toast is buttered well and the bacon is crispy but there is only one slice of bacon and it is locked at the bottom of the sandwich, making your bites either be just seafood or just bacon. The fries are delicious from a well-seasoned oil.
Service – 4/5. Friendly and assertive. Although the national sandwich month is not mentioned anywhere, the servers were fully aware of the promotion when mentioned.
Price – 4/5. $10 for a lobster roll with sides is a good deal. The price range for most items at Mitchell's is higher so during the promotion is a good time to try out their food.
Parking – Private Lot (Free)
I really like what they've done with the interior of this restaurant as they transitioned from the crabhouse which that on the property for many many years.
You could tell that there still working out their service issues. It took me an extremely long time to get my char broiled clams and we had a number of different servers attending to our needs.
We had many different items off the menu: Bluepoint oysters, shrimp cocktail, New England clam chowder, and charbroiled clams. Our entrées consisted of a catch of the day, a seafood sampler that was beer battered, grilled salmon, and crab stuffed flounder .
None of us were wowed by our dishes or the sides that accompanied them.
The cocktail list is extensive and my friends did enjoy the wine and the martinis.
You just can't say enough about the view from the deck to the norm these expensive George Washington Bridge, due East, the majestic jRiverside Church and to the south jersey city on the West Bank in all her glory.
I think you settle for the mediocrity of a chain restaurant for that million-dollar view.
And by the look of the prices on the menu, the management knows that.
It wasn't a very busy thing at the restaurant so I was alarmed when I am to the women's bathroom and found two of the four stalls to be in very unpleasant states. I guess I continue to link the overall hygiene and concern for hygiene in a restaurant to the level of maintenance in the restrooms and here they get a mixed review.
But I want to emphasize that the staff was really lovely and we never felt pressured to hurry up through our meal or to leave or anything like that so consequently I enjoyed myself there with my friends as we were dining on very scenic Hudson River on a beautiful summer evening.
This review is based on the dish I've had and not the others which seem to be better over all than what I got.
I ordered the fish and chips which wasn't even close to being as good as others I've had in the area.
The fried fish is almost sticky in its texture. Rather than flake and break it tends to wants to stick together while the fried skin slides off. Also, small portion for the money.
Pair that with tartar sauce that isn't that good and fries you would find at a low end diner and this meal really starts to look disappointing.
The saving grace of this plate was the fried mash potato balls that come with the plate. Though they mix them with some extras like corn, they're still pretty decent.
All in all if you want fish and chips, this is not the spot.
As for the others, I didn't taste them but the fish my sister got did have broken bones stuck in the meat – dangerous – and unappetizing. Really nothing on the table was amazing.
It's worth noting the staff was very nice but uncoordinated as they wanted to fit seven people on a table with barely any space to walk around while there where multiple open tables in the restaurant.
2/5 because no one walked out angry but paying about 250 bucks for seven people I expected to walk out happy. Than and I expected to be served bigger portions (especially the fish an chips and also the parm chicken)
Wouldn't recommend, there are other places in the area with a similar views and others with better seafood.
I had the opportunity to dine here over the weekend. It is VERY similar to the Crab House, only the facade has been updated.
We sat on the patio outside over the water, and my 18 month old daughter was with us. The waiter, and staff were very accommodating to my daughter, there actually were quite a few babies there when we dined.
The Lobster Bisque I ordered was delicious, while my entree was okay, I got the Shanghai Shrimp, Salmon, Scallop combo. I also placed a to go order for a crab cake appetizer for my husband. I didn't realize until I was home that they gave me an entree portion. Which was surprising as an entree for crab cakes were not on the menu.
I actually ate half of the crab cake myself for dinner, and it was very good. I'm sure I will be dining here again in the future, as it is close to home, and the view is outstanding. It's quite relaxing to sit on the patio.
