This place is an extremely nice place, something you would absolutely expect in the area. My family and I came here for my mom's birthday and it was more than i expected. The valet was quick and took care of our car, although you can park your car yourself as well.
Inside is extremely nice and very refined. This is not a t shirt and jeans restaurant at all. The waiter was extremely knowledgeable and nice so no complaints about that. The menu was extensive and had more then enough to choose from. Being plain and simple i just went with a NY sirloin as my main course served with homemade shoe string fries, i personally had no complaints with my meal, they cooked it perfectly how i asked, it was hot and it was a very juicy steak. Everyone else thought their meal was "just ok". The prices are very expensive so if you plan on coming here with a few people expect to spend a fair amount especially if you get alcohol.
Would i ever come back? possibly. Maybe for a fancy date. The atmosphere was great, the serve was great but the food was just nothing to brag about for the expensive price you pay. If you're into expensive steaks and having glasses of Louis XIII at $210/glass this is your place!
The food is between 3 and 4 stars but some steak or beef dishes are fantastic especially the porterhouse for two. A bargain at about 80 and includes standard but decent salad, dinner grade potato and ok veggies. If they focused a bit more on upscaling the sides it would be on par with NYC steak houses. But atmosphere is superb, both main bar and lower level cigar bar, Aldo and his staff uniformly superb, warm and genuine people. Fantastic for drinks too and excellent for affairs like weddings and parties. Great value especially for the very upscale decor where it seems no expense was spared for tasteful trappings. Maintained meticulously and super clean bathrooms. One of Bergens (and NJs) finest.
~THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE CIGAR BAR ONLY~
I love a good flavored cigar from time to time, however, the winter months make it difficult. Sitting outside with a nice glass of wine is not an option, therefore, my guy and I were on the hunt for a nice cigar bar in Bergen County. We found The Brick House online and decided to try it out.
The restaurant looks regal upon pulling up, and when we approached the entrance, there were two older ladies, both donning full-length fur coats, leaving the restaurant. We looked at each other and thought, "Should we brave it or should we leave?" We chose the former and I'm glad we did.
The cigar bar is way downstairs (it felt like 5 flights of stairs by the time we got to the end) and after the last flight of endless stairs, it opened up to a really nice wine cellar/cigar bar. It was not overly smoky, which makes me think that the ventilation is quite good. There is a full bar downstairs, along with a gorgeous wine cellar around the bend. The wine glasses are huge and the bartenders are not stingy with their pours. The cigar bar seems to be open until about 1:00-1:30 AM. We left around 1:00 AM and there were still a small handful of patrons left.
The restaurant portion of this place might throw you off a bit (it seems to be a bit on the formal side, as you can have a wedding or formal event there) but don't be deterred by that. The cigar bar is elegant yet casual (if that makes sense). While everyone upstairs was dressed up, we were fine in jeans. We stayed for a couple of hours and we fully enjoyed ourselves.
I am thrilled that we found this place for our colder-month smokes!
What a great surprise! Great steakhouse and cigar bar downstairs atmosphere. Bar area with fire place makes you feel like you are at an upscale ski lodge. Bartender today was great, suggestions, stories and speed. Open faced Ruben was a must try. Will be back soon for sure and often!
This place has been a staple in this part of Bergen County. We took my wife's great uncle for his 92nd birthday. When people have food allergies, waiters need to take these matters seriously. This particular waiter was just making assumptions without verifying with the kitchen staff. We thought the food was just average. Just head to Roots Steakhouse.
