  1. Not a typical Diner at all, but a quaint breakfast place with a Turkish flair.

To warn you, this place is small and it gets crowded on the weekend.  However, being offered a cup of joe to wait until a table clears, OK in my book!

Don't miss ordering some fresh OJ, Turkish Coffee or Turkish hot sausage.  All blew me away!

Food: Delicious and unique.  For anyone of ethnic origin, there is something homey about their meals.  Not only are they cooked well but they have a bit of spice and are well balanced.  There is something tart and sweet on each plate as well as crunchy and smooth.  Overall, your taste buds feel like they have all been satiated.

Decor: Pretty basic as you are basically eating inside of a small home.  But it's clean and cozy. It's also bright to make you feel like every day is spring.

Price: Comparative diner prices with a Turkish flair.

Service: Even while we waited we still felt like we were being taken care of.  Service to the table was quick and we were checked in on a few times with personal questions.  The guy who was either the owner or manager checked up on how I felt about his recommendation.  These are people who are passionate about what they do and they want you to enjoy what they are producing.

Specialness: Unique food that stills feels comforting and service that honestly made you feel like they were in it for far more than money.  They wanted to share their passion and really took the time to take care of their ingredients and what they presented on the plate.  I hate being cliche…but the food has some love in it and nothing is more special than that.

  2. The breakfast/brunch is fresh and really delicious. Forget the name of my plate but it had an over easy egg on top of a bed of spinach and buttered toast. Amazing!!!!! The roasted red pepper puree was equally delicious. Looked like hot sauce on top but don't be fooled. The portion size was perfect and doesn't leave you feeling bloated. The home fries here are legit. They are crisp on the outside and powdery soft on the inside. Seasoned well and they are also cooked with onions and red peppers. The iced coffee was great and comes with coffee ice cubes so it won't water down your beverage. This spot is small with about 5 tables as well as counter seats. Super casual and feels like you're eating at somebody's home instead of a restaurant. Service is great. Super attentive. Would definitely return!

  3. Discovering hidden gems may just be the very best feeling in the whole wide world! Yelp comes through yet again, this time, on a search for new and delicious brunch. Its not often that I venture to Bayonne, cause well, its Bayonne lol. But I was once told of a yummy breakfast/brunch that's totally worth visiting and now I've stumbled upon another! Who knew, Bayonne!?

Cafe Talya is fairly nondescript from the outside and I barely noticed it when we pulled up. Upon entering, we were greeted by a very sweet lady who seemed genuinely happy to see us. There was only 1 table occupied at the time. The place is very small and includes a cute, old school diner counter and an small open kitchen.

We sat down and ordered the fresh squeezed OJ while we looked over the menu. This OJ…! This was the best OJ I've ever had in my life. Is that a slightly ridiculous statement? Yes, I suppose it is. But true nonetheless! And later in the meal we found out why…we looked over and she was literally juicing oranges to order! WHAT?! Where they do that at? We ordered the Talya Omelette and Talya French Toast. The French was tasty but got a little eggy toward the middle. Still yummy though. The Talya omelette includes Turkish Sausage (spicy or mild) and feta cheese. We got one with spicy and one with mild, the spicy definitely won, but both were delicious. It was a really good omelette! The home-fries that accompanied were nothing special but the OJ definitely made up for that lol.

To end my meal, I decided to have a Turkish coffee. I ordered it with our waitress, to go. She came back and let me know that "he" (the chef) said they don't do the Turkish coffee to go. I was like "oh word?" lol. We appreciated the respect shown for the authenticity of a true Turkish coffee, and waited patiently for it. A few more people had shown up at this point and the chef was the only one in the kitchen so it took a little while. But soooo worth it! It was a delicious and beautifully served coffee.

The chef was out of the kitchen and asked how we like our meal on our way out. You have got to love service like that! Super cute place! I will be back!

  4. Great little place, lots of love behind the counter.  Waiting for your Turkish coffee to be made in the little copper pot on the stove is torture!  It's not something I crave everyday, but when you want a sweet jolt it fits the bill.

The blueberry pancakes are terrific, lots of fresh vegetables (tons of ripe, red peppers) in the Western omelet, the fresh oj is great.  Only quibble I have is that the home fries are deep fried, not done on a flat top.  I look forward to having some of the ethnic Turkish food going forward.

And can you put a price on having the local Elvis impersonator sitting down alongside you?

Edited to add-Another plus, I visited the restroom today to wash my hands-and it was spotless!

  5. This is the diner/cafe I've been searching for since I moved to Jersey! Simple, friendly and inexpensive. A place where everyone knows each other and a cup of coffee is $1.

My personal favorite is the Western Omelette with breakfast potatoes and a cup of Turkish coffee. (Though the regular coffee is pretty great too).

Can't recommend this place enough if you're a diner type like me.  Pop in and say hello, I'll be at the table in the back.

  6. AWESOME food, service & value!!  We stopped by after a day of enjoying Liberty State Park on 55 degree day in December.

The menu had lunch selections to please all age groups.  The burgers, chicken sandwiches, Caesar salad (with grilled chicken) & (yes) chocolate chip pancakes were great.  The grilled cheese with tomato & bacon as well as the chicken were exceptional… Yum.

Friendly service.  Looking for a great informal breakfast, brunch or lunch spot?  Look no further than this Bayonne gem!

  7. Truly great breakfast with the family. I loved the Turkish sausage omelet! Service was fantastic, everything tasted fresh. This is a much better local option than going to the diner.  I haven't tried them for dinner yet, but the prices look very reasonable.

My daughter loved her chocolate chip pancakes. My son had the spicy Turkish sausage, I had the mild, and we were both really happy.  Kudos! Good to see another great local business.
