Chirping Chicken

“The roast chicken is excellent and can be added to any meal at home (the delivery is super speedy).”

“It has a monopoly on healthy take out/delivery in that neighborhood of the UWS, and healthy late night eating.”

“The grilled vegetables are out of this world, the chicken is always cooked perfectly and they have good whole wheat pita bread.”

  1. This place is my go to for burgers when I don't want to wait in the long shake shack line. I always go for the cheeseburger deluxe, it's a nice portion for a burger and comes with a side of fries. They have a lot of options on their menu and it's nice to have a big variety. I usually order lunch from here and delivery is always very fast!

  2. Just came from this spot and I would absolutely go back. I was on an unexpected date and it was casually perfect. A lot of cops frequent this place. The food is fresh and fantastic. I had a chicken Caesars salad and it was perfect. When it's busy, it's hard to get a clean table but worth the wait. I can tell the locals love this place.

  3. Popped in here for a quick meal. The place gets pretty busy, but service is pretty quick.

Half Chicken Meal ($12.50) with salad, pita bread, macaroni & cheese
The chicken was dry, but grilled chicken tends to be dry. The flavor was alright. The sides come in small plastic cups. The salad is basically lettuce & tomatoes in a little dressing.  The macaroni & cheese tastes like the instant kind. It also came with a small cup of salsa, which looked like mushy tomato juice.

    Arroz con Pollo ($9):
This tasted a little better than the grilled chicken. It was still dry, but with the rice & beans, it was more of a complete meal.

Everything felt like a fast food chicken restaurant. The prices aren't too bad. The service was decent. Someone came and cleared our tray when we finished. Not bad.

  4. food: chicken gyro. it's filling for its size. the combination dampens the flavor of the chicken. after my first bite i knew i shouldve ordered the chicken on its own instead. ***4/5

service: good people. they cleaned the table for me before i got to it. ***4/5

value: perhaps the gyro wasnt the best choice to choose. i enjoyed the chicken itself a lot more than the gyro as a whole. it has potential and i def want to try the plates next time. ***3/5

  5. YOU NEED TO EAT HERE.

In NYC, your cheap options for a decent meal are basically Chipotle and Xi'an Famous Foods.

    NO LONGER.

You can have a deliciously moist, savory, juicy, grilled half chicken for just about $8. The breast meat is so tender and moist, I'm really impressed. The skin takes on a nice grill flavor as well. The thigh is a piece of chicken heaven. KFC wishes they could be half as good as Chirping Chicken.

    SERIOUSLY, JUST ORDER THE CHICKEN.

  6. I'm glad i found this spot. I frequent the Upper West Side area at least twice a week and sometimes the only affordable food options can become repetitive. Chirping Chicken doesn't only have chicken they have pretty much everything. Their options include all types of chicken, sandwiches, ribs, soul food ( mac n cheese, mashed potatoes etc) and some Greek food options (Gyros, Grape Leaves, hummus, salads etc)

I had the chicken fingers/tenders. 1 small order brings only 4 pieces ,but they are huge and statisfying. I also tried the grape leaves, which were very tasty.

The restaurant is no frills, but very spacious if you want to grab a table and pig out. Good alternative to fast food that won't break the budget and offers many tasty options. I will definitely be returning.

  7. I had high hopes for this place since it always seems to be packed every time I pass by. Finally got to try it and ordered a chicken plate dinner, which came with two pieces of chicken, rice and beans. It was a steal at $8! But I was disappointed by the chicken, it needed a lot more salt and was on the bland side. Worse yet, it was ever so slightly undercooked, which is a huge no-no when it comes to chicken.

There's indoor and outdoor seating, but it's mostly a take-out place. Order at the counter and then your food will be brought to your table. Staff was not very friendly.

  8. When I used to live by Columbus Circle, I had a hard time finding healthy restaurants on Seamless to order dinner from.  If only I had started ordering from Chirping Chicken when I first moved in versus the last six months of my lease!  The BF & I were loving it – great portions with lots of fresh chicken at very affordable prices.  After we moved downtown to FiDi, we deeply missed our beloved Chirping Chicken so much that we pick it up from the Midtown West location for dinner sometimes!  My go-to is the grilled chicken Greek salad with all the sides on the side (hot sauce, BBQ,  tzatziki, oil/vinegar).  The chicken and vegetables dish is also another staple of ours.  I picked up from the Upper West Side location last night and lusted over the chicken gyro sandwiches – definitely something on the menu I'll need to try!
