Here without about 10 coworkers for opening night. Really great space and backyard; huge improvement over pickleshack. Definitely a solid 4 for the atmosphere, super friendly and attentive staff.
Unfortunately they lose several points for the beer selection. Incredibly uninspired list of what you expect in an Applebee's in suburbia or airport. Sam Adams, harpoon (and this is from someone who went to college and graduate school in Cambridge…but that was back when those were really "microbrews" and hello, we are in Brooklyn),raderberger, angry orchard, yaaaawwwn. Come on, where are all our incredible local breweries literally just a few blocks away…no Otherhalf, Threes Brewing, Strong Rope (which is 10' away), Sixpoint? Yes they have evil twin and radiant pig but $9 a pint is INSANE. Especially with dozens of other restaurants and bars within a block. But I digress. Point is they need to fix their beer selection and pricing or this place will never be a destination. These people need to look at Owl Farm, High Dive, Mission Dolores, Bar great Harry, canal Bar, giver and takers, Bar Great Harry. I wouldn't give this place flak except for the fact they have an incredible space for serving beers, 17 taps, and advertise themselves as a beer garden. It's not.
Okay so we got the oysters (excellent), crudités (pretty sparse but excellent hummus), mushroom croquettes (excellent), chips and dip (good), sausage bahn mi (very good).
Anyway, I won't be back for beer, but do want to try the bahn mi again. They have a happy hour until 8 but pretty skimpy on the beer (a whole $1 off $9 beers…these should be $6 normally and $4 at happy hour like every other bar in area) although the wine bottle deal is excellent at half off).
