Cute spot in the back, but the front of the bar area is so annoying to get past. It's full of stressed out drunk working professionals who can't seem to get out of the way for people who want to get some real food and not only alcoholic beverages!
The staff were nice and I loved the decor .. very dark classic look with the amazing choices of food! Although it was pretty pricey and small, the food was tasty. I had the gnocchi and it was just enough creaminess with flavor.
Our hotel recommended this spot for a bite to eat late at night. We were very happy with our service we received here. Our waiter was attentive and was able to make recommendations for us. I ordered a very lightly flavored fish entree and was happy with it. There were small amounts of mushrooms in a light broth. Presentation was beautiful.
There was lots of room for crowds of people to hang out and socialize on their own in each corner of this restaurant/lounge. It was a little too dark at times for me to comfortably read the menu and eat my dinner but I suppose that kind of ambiance is what makes this restaurant a great place to come late at night. It did lend an feeling of romance to our dinner.
I would recommend District Social!
There is a lot of potential here, but it appears we had come on a bad day because the owner's family was having a party upstairs and we unfortunately experienced the backlash.
I was meeting up with my friends from abroad who were visiting America. We meant to hit district tap house, but due to some confusion ended up here.
The food was delicious but there were a couple errors including lack of information on the menu and the wrong dish coming out.
Drinks were fantastic! I ordered the el diablo and it was fantastic! I would have never though to mix gingerbeer with tequila, but hey, it worked.
So the server was pretty much involved with the party upstairs, seemed sweet enough, but definitely busy. We actually had the manager/or owner tend to us the entire time as a result. That is the sign of someone who knows how to step in and help when needed!
If I was in the area again, I may visit, but I also want to try out the tap house! Next time I am downtown I will definitely have to stop by.
This is an awesome place to go to right before heading to Madison Square Garden. My wife and I came here and grabbed a few apps and cocktails before our show. The place has a very nice vibe and the service was excellent. But the star of the show was the food. We ordered several different appetizers and when we tried them they all had so much flavor. I also appreciate that it did not take long to get our food after we told our waiter we had a show to catch. This place will definitely be a go to place for the future.
Was a lille disappointed because we came a little to early and caught the brunch menu. Still enjoyed our dine in. The server was very friendly the steak was soooo good. Was a little small as is to be expected for the brunch. Cant wait to go back for diner. Will update.
First off, the space is nice. You have the bar in the front where it's louder and then the dining area in the back which is a little quieter. This is not just a bar with bar food. The food here is not bad at all.
We started off with the grilled octopus and shrimp flatbread. The flatbread was really good. The grilled octopus's sauce was good. The octopus wasn't as tender but pass!
I ordered the roasted duck breast which came in a very generous portion. It was cooked perfect and the skin was crunchy. I tasted my friend's branzino and cornish hen. Branzino was good. Cornish hen was tasty and not dry. Cornish hen portion was pretty large as well. We ordered a side of brussel sprouts and the sauce that's on the brussel sprouts is really delicious.
Service was good. Could be better. I'm a water drinker but that was not refilled until we asked. Other than that everything is good!
Decided to stop here with my girlfriend for lunch. It's St. Patrick's Day so I thought, why not? It was about 2pm and I walked past many bars that were crowded and filled with 21 year olds getting wasted. Then we walk into —-. It was pretty empty and everyone was at least 35 and older. Ok not what I was expecting but I welcomed the not 21 yr old crowd.
Despite not being too crowded, the service was SLOW. We ordered a drink and told the waiter we were ready to order to which he responded that he would come right back to get our lunch order. 15 minutes later we had to flag down a busser and ask that he get our waiter. We finally ordered. I asked for a few changes to my chorizo flatbread (specifically, no peppers) and was told the peppers were already mixed in. My friend was also told the cabbage she didn't want was premixed into the pulled pork sandwich…ummmm ok. We decided to get them anyway.
After another long wait, our food finally arrived. Mine was absolutely delicious! My friend received a pork sausage sandwich instead of the pulled pork she ordered but by this time we were so hungry and running short on time that she decided to keep it. She said it tasted wonderful (luckily). We did tell our waiter about the mistake and all we were told was that he put in the right order but the kitchen must have messed up. We didn't make a big deal about it and paid our bill and left. I can't imagine what the service would be like if the place was crowded.
I was staying in Midtown for a work trip and was looking for New American food in walking distance of my hotel where I could get a table without a reservation. District Social was only two blocks away and featured an attractive menu along with happy hour specials.
I was seated immediately in an almost empty dining room. The happy hour menu had a decent number of cocktails and craft beers. The beers were only $5, which is almost unheard of in Manhattan. So I had two with dinner.
I started with the charred octopus appetizer, which came with potato confit and Chimichurri. By far, the octopus was the highlight of my meal. It was lightly charred, fresh, light, and delicious. For the entree, I had the Hanger steak which is served with mushrooms. All in all this was a solid meal and at a reasonable price.
This was a decent little spot. It checked all my boxes for that night. I'm not sure I would come again on my next trip, but that's only because the number of restaurants in Manhattan would take three lifetimes to sample. If you're staying nearby, like New American, and need a happy hour menu, this place will hit the spot.
