I like that they have a variety of easily identified vegan options (top shelf, yellow labeling) BUT it's express airport food…which means you're paying a lot for some sad food. I bought/paid $10.88 for the Vegan Banh Mi which is ridiculous but it is what it is…and the sandwich itself was just eh. I was hungry, trapped in an airport, they got me.
This had a great array of stuff! Alan had heard good things about it and when I looked at the selection of sandwiches, salads and wraps they had I was impressed. They make smoothies and they sell energy bars and chocolate and chips and all the requisite stuff to keep body and soul together. It's not inexpensive, but it _is_ an airport and it's in NY, so we didn't expect it to be. I got a tuna sandwich w/ lemon that was terrific. No mayo. Tam would have liked it. It was on good, oatmeal-type bread whose only fault was being a little dry at the edges. It included a huge, crispy fresh lettuce leaf, which I really liked. I got a little bag of Pirate Booty, which we used to buy at TJ's, and that was my dinner on the plane. Alan got a smoked salmon salad sandwich but didn't like his as well because of the dry crust. This is one of the best take-on-the-plane airport food options I've seen.
Sometimes when you are running a bit behind and need to grab something quick to eat on your flight the Cibo Express is the way to go. Pre-packaged sandwiches, meals, snacks, and bottled drinks make it easy to make sure you have some nourishment on your flight and don't starve. Maybe a little overpriced, but that can be expected at an airport. Even though Jet Blue serves up some terrific snacks on their flights, you can only eat so many Terra Blue chips!
Wow! Terminal 5 offers a lot. This travel cafe is a great way to offer food to folks in a quick personalized manner.
After two days in the city, I was happy to head back home. But I was hungry too, and I was pleased with the fact that I could make my own salad. It isn't five star dining, but it offers travelers what they need. Fresh fruits, sandwiches, yogurts, salad bar… So much.
And the girl who cashed us out was delightful. What more can you ask for when dealing with the other unpleasantries of flying?
