  1. Let me start off by saying, don't believe in the bad reviews that you are reading. This place may have a few flaws and people may have a few personal reasons why they don't like it but all in all, the place is great.

Cocktails: The drinks here are fresh, well thought out and at a relatively decent price of $12 per drink (considering the ingredients).

Food: Phenomenal flavor, ingredients and appearance. You can get full here without feeling gross. The quality of the food is far higher than your standard restaurant.

Cons: The music is something out of your local Panera Bread and some of the staff seem disinterested, even though my service was great.

If you're tired of going out to eat somewhere where the quality of the food does not meet the price and you want a farm to table experience, it may be hard to beat this place.

  2. Came by for brunch to find out that they were only serving the breakfast portion of brunch, not lunch.  Bummer considering my boyfriend doesn't eat eggs.  Oh, well.  He ordered a bunch of their sides and made a meal of it, and I ordered the salmon scramble, which was fine.  I found the price to be pretty high for the quality & quantity, but that doesn't mean we won't be back when they roll out their full brunch menu.  Their sandwiches looked amazing, and their salads do as well.  The service was a bit aloof, but trying hard to keep it together… seems they're still working out many kinks (they've been open for 3 weeks now), and the waiter mentioned as much when it took 40 minutes or so for our food to come out.

This all being the case, I wouldn't say FoaF is less than a 3 star establishment.  The food is good, the ambiance is beautiful, and they seem to be trying to get their sh*t together.

  3. Honestly the food was nothing special and was a bit over-priced. I do love the cozy decor and would like to come back for dinner (my first meal was a lunch). Feels like this restaurant is still getting its act together. A large portion of the menu was dedicated to their pressed juices and smoothies. When we tried to order some the waitress said oh I'm not sure if that's available yet, I'm not even sure if we have a juicer. Something she should probably have checked on and warned people when handing out the menus rather than coming to take the order. I did purchase fresh chocolate chip banana bread to go and that was amazing. I'll give them a few more weeks and come back again for another try.

  4. Was excited to have stumbled upon a new restaurant on Montague street.
Personally, I have never liked the menu of the NYC based FofF. But this looked warm, cozy and very well done. Almost a perfect addition to the neighborhood.

But not the service or attitude. A very unhappy Sunday morning bar server showed signs of a service process not yet ready for customers. Beyond being rude and unhelpful, we sort of new our food would take forever and they would be all the more happier to have the end of the day come sooner. If you are opening for business at all, let alone in a very neighborhood oriented area, it would be just a small pointer to think a bit about the guests you are welcoming into your new establishment. Good luck to these guys. If you cant be friendly to your potential regulars – you won't fare well.

  5. Arrived for brunch one day with a group of friends. Our waiter was charming and helpful and just an overall cool guy. Our table had the bread plate for starters (more like cake plate if you ask me) which was heavy but delicious.

I had the country omelette which I wasn't at all disappointed with, despite being picky about my eggs. Everyone else seemed to really enjoy their food however one of our party had to return her eggs for reheating, which they were happy to do.

Drink-wise, I had the brunch special which was a light and refreshing gin with cranberry and lime. Most of my other friends had bloody Mary's which they said were delicious if a little on the thick/heavy side.

They were also very cool with us splitting the check, which is always a huge plus.

    Go here.

  6. Great hot toddy (called something else with the word toddy) disclaimer: it was my first hot toddy ever and I have nothing to compare it to.

Great atmosphere. Good cocktails. Friendly bar service. Cozy fireplace (with limited seating).

I'd recommend this place for a cocktail ($13-16) in a great environment. It reads here like the food is being worked out but the shepherd's pie looked awesome.

  7. 3.5 stars

Good but nothing too great or memorable. Granted, portions were huge and you will leave full! Besides my order, they gave complimentary toast (with jam and butter) and cornbread with apple compote?? It was a nice touch that they gave these for free

I had the smoked salmon scramble with a side of house potatoes. Overall the dish was pretty good but it's nothing too special. The salmon was a little too salty but I suppose with the egg and cream cheese (or sour cream lol I forgot) it balanced out

  8. Came here for a team work dinner last month and it was "meh".. The decor and layout of the space was great. From what I gather it used to be a furniture store.

There were 7 of us and we ordered several appetizers and our own entrees. We ordered bruschetta, crab cakes, meatballs, cheese platters and a host of other appetizers.
I had the salmon as my entree and it was decent.

A few of my dinner mates received cold sides that were supposed to be hot. The staff was awesome and fixed everything right away. They were very attentive.

Not sure that I'll be back as I wasn't blown away by the food.
