  1. Atmosphere is fun and super cute with doggy pictures everywhere but the food is so so. I think the brunch deal could be better also. It's a good neighborhood spot to bring your animal lover friends though.

  2. What a fabulously divey bar/restaurant on the UWS.  Stopped by with a friend who recommended their sangria so in we went on a Sunday afternoon.  Inside its intimate and dark and oh my god…photos of puppies all on the inside of the place ::insert squeal here::.  Loved looking at all the pooch pics while drinking some really good sangria.  If you like the sweet, fruity sangria that comes from a jug named Carlo Rossi/Arbor Mist, then do not come here.  It's a strong, full bodied with no sugar added drink with the most potent fruit I've ever tried.

Had a great time at Fred's and I hope to be back!

  3. Came here for brunch here the other day and had a turkey burger and a salad, the salad was pretty good as well as the turkey burger, though it was a little raw in the middle and stringy, which kinda runied it for me but I was starving so…

  4. Came here on a Saturday around 10:30 and snagged a seat at the bar. It gets quite busy here with minimal room to wait, so I would recommend arriving as early as you're willing to arrive on the weekend. I ordered the asparagus and brie omelet which was SO delicious. I can't remember the exact name, but my husband ordered the Lox Eggs Benedict. I didn't try it at all, but he really enjoyed it. Meals are served with a side salad which I really enjoyed and a square of breakfast potatoes which I didn't. It wasn't because they were bad, it was simply a matter of preference. The coffee is hot and strong and they keep your cup nice and full! The cinnamon raisin bread with strawberry butter is delicious. If you aren't absolutely famished, it would be really easy to get away with splitting a meal here (perhaps with 1 extra side).
Honestly, neither of us felt well the rest of the day after eating here. It could have just been a coincidence, but certainly an unsettling one. I won't deter me though and I'm definitely willing to eat here again regardless.

  5. Because I was grabbing brunch with a dog I was babysitting, I needed to sit outside, and Fred's has ample outdoor seating which drew me to the restaurant. Combined with their $18 prix fixe breakfast special, I was sold on Fred's for Sunday brunch.

Though I was initially excited for my brunch at Fred's, the experience quickly went downhill for me. First the hostess sat my friend and me at a table directly in the sunlight on a scorching summer day when there were several shaded tables that she proceeded to give to customers after us. When we asked for a shaded table, she told us that our table was the best she could do.

From there, we temporarily had a reprieve from our experience when our incredible waiter Chris came over to drop off our complimentary muffins and take our drink orders (the prix fixe menu comes with tea/coffee and juice/mimosa/bloody mary). Chris was extremely accommodating and quite possibly the best part of our dining experience. My friend ordered the bloody mary and I ordered the orange juice, both of which were sub-par (my friend commented that her bloody mary was too pepper-y and barely touched it).

From there we ordered our meals: two omelettes and a side of bacon for the dog. What should have taken 10 minutes TOPS ended up taking 20 minutes to arrive. While people around us were being served — people who arrived after us, no less — we sat in the scorching heat waiting for our omelettes, with empty water glasses that weren't being refilled.

When the omelettes finally did arrive, we noticed that no one had ever given us silverware. What a joke. When we finally got the silverware and could eat, the omelettes were average — the eggs were a bit overcooked and the insides slid out of the omelette as if they had been thrown in at the last second.

Needless to say, I probably won't be returning to Fred's.

  6. Great brunch place on the uws, especially in the warm weather where you can outside and people watch.  There can be a wait of approx 20 to 25 min to sit outside -however they have a nice bar you can wait at inside.

They start off with warm muffins which are so good, and have great brunch drinks the belini's are so good!

They have a wide array of choices for brunch, my go to is the cheeseburger.

Restaurant has a cute concept, all about dogs! You can bring a picture of your dog and they will hang it up!

  7. Stopped by for brunch on a Sunday super late in the day, around 3:20. Their brunch ends at 3:30, and they happily sat us and gave us the brunch special which is 17.95 (or a dollar or two extra depending on what you order). Gold star for the service!!

Anyway, it was still super packed and since it was my first time here I got a kick out of all the dog pictures on the walls. Who wouldn't that make smile! The menu has something for everyone, brunch classics and a wide variety of them. I got the smoked salmon eggs benedict and it was delicious. The BF ordered strawberry pancakes. The blueberry muffins that you get at the beginning are delicious and the strawberry butter is a great compliment to them. Their brunch deal also includes a drink (mimosa, belini, etc) but I just got coffee.

Recommended for a casual brunch spot with friends! Gets crowded so prepare to be packed in.

  8. I can't think of a better brunch experience than Fred's.  There was no line, no wait to get in, and we were seated immediately in a cute little basement looking area.  Framed pictures of dogs line every inch of the wall (which is adorable).  We were given a complimentary basket of bread with a delicious strawberry butter spread.  My boyfriend and I each ordered the crab cake benedict and it was delicious.  The crab cake was moist and packed full of crab.  The hashbrowns that came with the benedict were sooo good – I could just eat a plate of those alone.  The mimosas did not skimp on the champagne.  Also, the girl's bathroom is covered in framed pictures of cats!  Anyways I really liked this place – great atmosphere and food!
