This experience started off so well, then died off. We came on a Sunday afternoon and found the perfect TV next to a fireplace with couches all around. We were able to catch two afternoon games here and enjoyed the beer selection along with Wings and a Cuban sandwich. All orders have to be put in at the bar after 4pm, so that's fine.
The Abilene Cubano could use a little more work since the meat was just too sweet. We received two slices of pickles with the sandwich and about a forkful of coleslaw. Good thing we ordered wings as well. The wings were a good size and good portion.
Thinking we can keep the experience rolling, we stayed around til the 830 game. Then the TV's went off. We checked with the bartender and was informed TV's don't come on after 8pm. NO GAMES AFTER 8PM. Well, that just killed it for us.
No Sunday Night Football here, go elsewhere!
Abilene is a deceivingly large space with curb seating, where you can enjoy their marvelous cocktails whilst people-watching. I didn't have any of their food, but it looked like a decent menu. Of course, they do Bloody Mary's and brunch as well. Maybe next time!
Pretty awesome for a neighborhood bar. I live a couple blocks away and find myself there on a weekly basis. BLOODY MARY is awesome and one of the best in the city. Go here just for that.
Beers run $3-$7, and there's always something drinkable on tap. I've gotten Genny and I've gotten Sox Point. It ranges, but it's all wonderful. Cocktails are very reasonable and super well done.
Food is decent-good, mainly hit or miss. Loved the fried pickles and okra, bleu burger was solid, nachos…disappointing. If you need a chill place to hang out at night or after work, this is the place to go!
This is a nice to place to sit outside with your dog on a beautiful day. The bloody mary's were good, as was the burger. I love okra, so it was nice to see a friend okra appetizer on the menu. The food didn't blow me out of the water – it is standard bar/brunch fare – but it was a nice time and I would come again.
i wish they had better beers on tap.
abilene will give you a handful of beer choices along with a decent bar food menu (burgers, nachos and the like). the selling point for me is the outdoor seating, which is why i go back in the warm spring and summer months again. and again. and again.
No skim milk. Great hangover help. Typical Carroll Gardens mix of yuppie parents and hipsters. Great board game options and indoor/outdoor seating.
A decent bar, but a bit below the high bar set for the neighborhood with such great craft beer lists. Here, the selection doesn't go much beyond staples like Guiness and Hoegaarden with a few more interesting seasonal beers on tap as well. Still, the immense unique lists at other nearby bars puts this in perspective. The tables outside are dog friendly and they have games for kids and adults. Service was fine but a bit slow and the glasses from the previous diners were never cleared. Not bad for a quick drink while waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant.
Worst brunch ever. 45 minute wait for French toast (they were not even busy, 4 tables max). Heavy metal music blasting to the point of headache. Waitresses never check on you or refill your coffee till you complain about wait time.
And the worst part? Freaking toast was not even good.
Skip, skip, and never look back.
