  1. Writing this review based on the salmon salad and chicken soup- so if you are looking for info on burgers or steak, move on! Salmon in salad was fresh, and perfectly cooked (ordered medium). Chicken soup really was homemade- lots of fresh dill and a beautiful broth. There were a few mix-ups with my order- salad came out with dressing on it instead of on the side. Overall, however, enjoyed my visit and would return.

  2. The T-Bone burguer is one of the juciest burguers  I have had so far in New York. That is not necessarily a good thing, though. The bun gets very soggy if you don't eat it fast. Otherwise, the taste was good. I ordered hand cutt fries and I loved them. Those were a safe choice.
The meat was cooked as requested, and the waiter was very nice.
The place seems to not be very crowded very often, as I went during what google said is one of their bussiest hours and it appeared to be almost empty on the bottom part of the restaurant. But that might have been due to the fact that it was a week day.
The dessert was amazing. Fried oreos with icecream? That had to be good.

    Anyway…
I'd recommed the place if you're in the neigborhood, and it's probably better during the weekends. But you're not missing out if you can't make it.

  3. Really good comfort food with well made ingredients. Get a burger if you're hungry and I swear no choice you make would be regretted. The M&M is probably the best out of all of them.

  4. Don't come here for the burgers. The main attraction is the french fry tasting basket. Trust me, it's every fry lover's dream. A basket of waffle fries, sweet potato fries, and regular fries to share? It's like you died and went to fry heaven! All for $10 too!

  5. Traveling for business and stayed at the hotel where this restaurant resides. I ate breakfast twice here and the food was actually quite good. Fresh eggs with steak, good bacon, nice fruit dish and solid coffee. A bit better than most but the service was way too slow from the kitchen. Shocking because it's New York and most places are speedy and efficient. No one has time to sit around in this city.

Staff was friendly and I did like the ambience of this downstairs dining establishment. Cool look and feel. Up your game on the service here and the stars will go up.

  6. I like RARE on the east side, so it's a shame this location sullies the brand. It's connected more transparently to a hotel, and the mediocrity you usually expect from 'attached' establishments may account for some of the lower quality. The place is also a walk away from MSG and people typically stop to find something quick — if not great — beforehand.

Still, I would have given it 3 stars if not for the deplorable logistics. We had to wave our hands to get things like a) silverware, b) ketchup, c) a new order of fries because our original order got cold by the time the ketchup came, d) a clarification for someone in our party with a food allergy, e) someone to take our entree order, etc, etc. Personnel-to-customer ratio did NOT seem to be the issue, but rather, poor training of staff and/or poor allocation and spread throughout the establishment. The denser bar area should probably have had more staff than the "general restaurant" area below.

We won't be coming here again, especially since the food was also nothing to write home about. RARE is an anagram for REAR, as in RARE will have to go to the REAR of our restaurant queue.

  7. Rare is located inside of the Hilton Fashion District Hotel. The Bar & Grill spans two levels. The bar itself is on the main level of the hotel. The main dining area is down a level – accessed by a stairway.

I had several meals here. First was an appetizer called Frickles. Dill pickle slices wrapped in corned beef and swiss cheese, then dipped in a batter and deep fried. Served with a savory dipping sauce. Amazing! Afterward I had their version of the Cobb salad with grilled chicken. The vegetables in the salad were finely shredded and the chicken was succulent and tender. Excellent salad!

Also had a couple of pints here – two different IPAs. One was from Founders, the other was a Lagunitas IPA.

The next day I had a cup of their vegetable soup – which was rather average. For dinner I ordered room service: A burger (san bun) with Brie cheese, sautéed mushrooms and bacon, with a side of fried Jalapeños and their trio of fries. Of the three, the Waffle fries were the only ones that were hot and tasty by the time they got to my room. The regular fries and the sweet potatoes fries were cold, overcooked, and not very good. The burger, however, was very tasty! As were the Jalapeños!

Also had breakfast here one morning. Tried the buffet – had scrambled eggs, a couple of rolls of smoked salmon, and a side of bacon. The eggs had been out to long and were not very good. The salmon was very tasty. Asked for a glass of V-8 juice but they only serve Tomato juice, so I went with that and a cup of coffee.

    Service was good.

  8. Amazing burgers, and amazing service. Thank you for being patient with us. Jameson Burger with extra shot was delicious. M&M burger was so good. Thanks for suggesting the basket fries so we could try all the dipping sauces. Waffle fries was the best (cottage fries).
    Drinks upstairs tasted better.
