Prohibition

“the band was INCREDIBLE playing awesome songs for instance 'Mr Jones' to oldies 'Go, Johnny Go' (1958) then to Katy Perry LOL.”

“I don't frequent the UWS, but I will definitely make the trek back up there to return to Prohibition.”

“I find more and more to like about the Upper West Side, and will definitely be back again to Prohibition!”

  1. Great spot, good beer, and live music…. Got a little corwded when the band started, but over all a cool date spot.

  2. We only drinks and wings but they were great. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive. My husband had the pbj old fashion and a knob creek old fashion and they were great. I had two drinks and the millers crossing was the best!!!! We ordered the wings and they were standard bar wings.

    fairly decent happy hour.
    depending on the night
    the crowd can vary.
    drinks aren't very strong
    and tastes don't agree.
    ok choice for the area.

  4. Walked into this bar one evening for a quick drink. The ambience is intimate and drinks exceptional. I got an old fashioned and my hubbie got a beer. They lit a candle on our table when it got a lik dark. Live music on guitar- wow!! The staff is courteous. Overall a great place. If u are looking for an intimate bar- this is it!!

  5. Good enough place… we had snacks and drinks while watching a live show.  The service was fine given the crowd.  The guacamole was spicy (so delightful for us), maybe too much so for some people.

The band was really good also.  The only problem seemed to be how the sound system was set up–we had a lot of trouble hearing the vocals.

  6. This is a great bar, with good live music every weekend night. It's an interesting mix of classy place (last time I came they were playing black and white movies in the background on silent) but at the same time a place to cut loose with friends or a date and listen to great music. They had a great Bruno Mars cover band the last time I was there also.

  7. Ended up making it back to Prohibition on a Friday night around 9:30pm. The next morning, I woke up with a new favorite bar in NYC. We had an awesome time! We got there early enough where it wasn't too crowded yet, so our group was able to grab a table right up front. A live band came on at 10-10:30 and played covers. We stayed for hours dancing. It ended up getting very crowded as we had expected (wish the space was a bit bigger), but it was still an absolute blast. Prices are fair!

  8. My favorite bar on the Upper West Side. In a sea of fratty spots such as Jake's Dilemma and Gin Mill, finding a lively but classy place to grab a drink with some friends in the neighborhood isn't easy. With live music (mainly cover bands) every night, this bar is great for when you want to have a fun night out, but aren't much of a "club-oriented" person. On some Saturdays, Prohibition hosts an '80s cover band, which has everyone jumping around and singing along. Prohibition isn't a uppity, trendy bar, so expect reasonably-priced whiskey sours and vodka cranberries instead of avant garde sips.

The only downside is that the space is quite small, which makes enjoying the music and exploring the back room, which occasionally features black and white movies, a challenge. Overall, I would highly recommend.
