The Fireplace

“BUT PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND BETTY WHITE YOU NEED TO GET THE CAJUN FRIES!!!”

“Usually when I'm back visiting Bergen County and I have a burger craving, I hit up the Iron Horse and had honestly completely forgotten about the Fireplace if not for Yelp reminding me.”

“The rest of the menu, I give average, but the steak sandwich…….”

  1. This has become a new lunch stop for me.  Really cool looking rustic inside with a cozy fireplace. Ordering is take out style at a counter and you take your food to sit in the dining room. I'm a fan of the grilled cheese and Cajun fries. Inexpensive and delicious.

  2. Casual spot. The chicken sandwiches are big. They have some value meal options, but it's too much food for me.

I haven't had the milkshakes or pizza here.

The layout of the restaurant is a bit odd.

The service is ok. For a place like this, the food and service is what I'd expect it to be. It's good but nothing to write home about.

  3. I have nostalgia embedded into my opinions about The Fireplace, so my review may be a bit biased. My grandfather lived close by, so this was his go-to (other than the Ridgewood Country Club) when we were with him. I had fond memories from childhood of the delicious bacon cheeseburgers, the help yourself pickles station, and the warmness of this little local restaurant right off of 17.

The last time I was at The Fireplace was when I could drink strawberry milkshakes and not gain any weight, so it's been a while. When trying to find a place to grab lunch with my boyfriend and his brother, we wanted something quick, and decided that this was the best carb filled option prior to going to an evening wedding.

I was nervous about bringing them to this place that had shaped so many childhood memories, because there's always the fear that things aren't as you remember them.

Basically, The Fireplace hasn't changed – it's still simple food, with burgers (that are CHEAP), fries, sandwiches, grilled cheese (delicious!), and milkshakes. Nothing fancy at all, but solid and quick (boyfriend commented that it's like fast food, but without being shitty fast food). You order at the counter and then wait for them to call their name before scoping out a table (or, if you're a pro, you assign someone to go hawk a seat and then grab their food for them to ensure optimal seat position).

There's a pizza restaurant part of The Fireplace upstairs (you may see it when you walk in, depending on where you park), so this really has a little bit of everything. Insanely affordable, right off of 17, serves breakfast, and has solid/quick lunch options. Glad that my little spot from childhood is still so solid.

  4. I've been coming to this establishment for over 20 years and my past experience was by far the worst one I've encountered.

We ordered our food and after 15 minutes went by, I noticed a few people who had ordered after me were getting their orders. We didn't order anything too extreme where it would take extra time so I asked where was our order. Behind the counter was basically ran by about six high schoolers might I add. They all huddled up in a state of confusion and had come to the conclusion they gave my order to someone else. After another ten minutes, our food was finally ready.

My order was a double cheddar bacon burger with a combo side of fries and rings. The food itself was still what I remembered and always pretty good.

I'm hoping this was a fluke performance because I'd hate to not return to one of my go to burger joints when back home visiting.

  5. I drive past The Fireplace every day on my way to work, and I've always wanted to check it out.  I've finally been there (twice) and I can say I enjoy it for what it is.  The decor inside is cute and cozy.  I always try to sit by one of the fireplaces they have in the two different sections of the restaurant.

The food is standard fast food, with a plethora of different options.  People are complaining about the burgers, but I like them.  They've never been overdone when I've ordered them.  They are thin and delicious.  Last time I was there I tried the onion rings and they are much better than the fries.  Definitely go for onion rings as a side!  Their grilled cheese is also awesome.  Nothing fancy, but buttered, melted, and toasted to perfection.  And you know how sometimes you just want a cheap tasting chocolate shake?  Get it here.

I'll definitely visit The Fireplace again… just not too often, my arteries can't handle it!

  6. I came here with a group of friends during dinner time. Most of us ordered the fireplace burger. The burger had a dry biscuit bun that was not very appetizing. The meat patty was thick and moist, but barely salted and quite bland. The cheese adds a bit to the overall flavor of the burger, and the bacon was a good addition. But overall it was not a very flavorful or tasty burger, it was just 'okay'.

  7. We stop here every year on our way to vacation.  The place is great, fast and inexpensive.  The food is pretty good and the servings are plentiful.  We always get a ton of fries and burgers and chicken.  The people behind the counter are always very nice and polite and helpful.  This is not really fast food, but food fast and casual.

Burgers, Grilled Chicken and fries are our go to here!  There is also an Ice Cream shop on the second level, but it was not open when we last visited…

  8. I have been to The Fireplace many time for breakfast. You order your food near the kitchen and then you wait for your food(you seat yourself). The wait time is very short. As for the food it is typical diner food. As to the quality of the food it is ok. In regards to prices, it is very reasonable.

I would rate The Fireplaces as follows: Food is 2.5 Stars, Price is 3.5 Stars and Atmosphere is 3 Stars.
