  1. Decently priced drinks in a pretty divey location.  Come get your drink on without feeling the pressure of looking sharp.  A neighborhood staple to UES, but far from being memorable.  Plus an extra star for a funny and friendly bartender who kept drinks coming all night.

  2. Some friends and I stopped in for a drink and it was fine. We had just come from J.G. Melon (there was a 30min wait) and we were looking for a place to kill time while we planned our next move. This place is fine, it's a pretty standard bar. There is plenty of room to get around and grab a table and the bartender was a nice woman. Additionally, there were some pretty attractive women in here, which we really did not expect.

Overall, we only had one beer before heading out and it was a fine place at which to do just that.

  3. Came here on a Saturday night after JG Mellon was too crowded. I had a whiskey ginger ale and the chipotle chicken sandwich. Drink was decent as was the sandwich. Pretty big portion and good flavors. It wasn't too noisy so was able to talk to my friend and the bartender was friendly and attentive. Decent place to grab a drink and a quick bite to eat.

  4. First time here at McKeown's and it kinda sucked.

    Food kinda sucked.
My "man friend" and I decided to split the fish and chips (the chips were gross) fish was okay, nothing special and definetly not worth $17 by far! We also tried the medium hot wings for $10.95 that were super dry and tasted like they had been in the freezer for way too long.

    Service kinda sucked.
Maybe if I was a single dude trying to make plans to go out with the bartender to Horse Face bar after she got off work at 7:30 it would have been better. Hmm, thankfully this place has plenty of TVs to keep me occupied when my dirty plate and empty beer glass are the only things paying attention to me from the bar.

kinda sucked + kinda sucked = kinda sucked squared

+1 star for Alan, the bartender that came in after the female one had left to go home, shower, and meet up with the two patrons that got amazing service (they should write a review to counteract mine). We never had to flag him down to refill our drinks. Thanks Alan!

  5. This is the place you go to when J.G. Melon is too crowded to bear. Simple Irish establishment, standard pub fare and drinks, friendly neighborhood service.

Ordered an IPA ($7) and a chili bowl ($8). Cheese didn't really mix well into the meal but was overall satisfying. They also have weekend drink specials – $6 rum/cider combo – interesting flavor though I wouldn't have chosen coconut rum for the base.

A couple of flat screens about to watch a game and pretty fast service. Always good to have an Irish pub in the area, three stars.

  6. Friendly, unexceptional neighborhood Irish pub in the East 70's.  I've been here a couple times and wasn't impressed before but they took great care of me and my  friends the other night–a dozen of us–without a reservation.  McKeown's redeemed itself in my book and I'll surely give it another shot.

  7. One of the few decent bars on the UES, I think. As other Yelpers have mentioned, though, it is "very UES."

The bartender was a bit slow. Can be super awesome or super slow and hard to get drinks. I don't like that irregularity, personally.

  8. Visited here yesterday afternoon for a pint. Sat at the open window and read a little bit. Behind me a group of people were watching soccer. More people trickled in after they got off work. I like bars that are quiet in the afternoons, and I'm unsure what this place is like at peak times, but considering how much you could spend nearby, it's not too bad.
