We wanted to go to the Rockaway Seafood Company, but we were well under dressed. Then we were going to go to the New Irish Circle, but that was a little out of the way. So we settled on The Wharf.
Disaster ensues.
The only good thing about The Wharf, is the view from the back deck. We sat out there, which wasnt the best idea. It was crazy windy and we were all still scantily clad from our day at the beach. My nipples have never been harder, and that probably isnt an appetizing sight. We all ended up having to wrap towels around ourselves. Why didnt we just go inside you ask? It was full, dummy.
Our "waitress" prefaced us with a warning about how bad she was at her job- understatement.
We asked her what beers that she had on tap and she had to go inside to find out that they had none. She also could not tell us what she did have. Oh man, I just realized that this review could go on forever with how bad an experience it was so lemme just sum it up, as its not worth my time.
-French onion soup (recommended by "waitress") was a mediocre powder mix of minced onion
-Fish n chips- pretty bland
-pricy for what you get
-worst/slowest service EVER
– our bill was thirty dollars more than it should have been
+fish tacos- I was told were good
+calamari was standard, but good. marinara was cold
+Crab cakes were actually pretty good (aside form the soggy "salad" bed they were served upon)
+ spectacular view. great for sunsets
come here for a drink outside, thats about it
if Buttina or Buttunia or something with a Butt is your server- switch sections
I like this place. It's right outside of Brooklyn, which is great and convenient if you're like me and you're looking for some grub after shopping at Kings Plaza.
Basic bar food. The calamari is delicious. I had the fish on a bun, which was very fresh.
I didn't get to try out the bar yet, but I'll be back to do that soon. The menu is a little limited (hence the loss of some stars) but overall it's a good place if you want to sit literally on the bay. There's also a slip if you want to dock your boat and dine.
No C/C's accepted here!! Bring cash.
Hidden behind the gas station, there is local treasure called Wharf Bar & Grill.
Be warned, service here is as slow as turtle on lazy sunny day, and interior part just as shabby as my uncle's garage, but exterior deck sits right on the water, beautifully fixed and nice.
This is what we came here for. Sitting on open air terrace, with breeze touching your face, enjoying amazing view of bridges, Brooklyn and New York skyline – you can just relax and take it easy. We are not in a hurry. Well, as long as they bring us drinks, of course!
Fresh clams, HUGE lobster roll (we had to split it in half, and fish tacos (whey more like wraps, actually, and pretty convenient to eat). It was a lot of food. Oh, and sweet potato fries won the day – sooo good!
I loved sitting there and watching boats go by, sun getting lower on a horizon, and just enjoying great company.
Been coming here since I'm little. The food is nothing special, but it's not bad. The back outdoor patio is what makes this place a rockaway staple. You can often see people pulling in on their boats and walking right in. It's beautiful at sunset on a warm summer night.
"It's not hard, not far to reach
We can hitch a ride
To Rockaway Beach"
Apparently The Ramones are not the only one who ditch the day to Rockaway Beach as my party of three sought for food fulfillment after an abundant calming restful day at Jacob Riis Park seaside where hunger pangs strike. With a postponed unofficial high school reunion supposedly held at The Wharf, I decide to give it a try with my party of three.
Service is somewhat attentive though not sprightly eagerly with efficiency. Food is your typical bar grub of steak, Caesar salad, Mozzarella sticks, Quesadillas with a focus on seafood being at bay. Disappointingly the Manhattan Clam Chowder at $5.00 is not my cup to intake as I prefer New England Clam Chowder which convey dismay to our party. My fish and chips at $10.00 was average, while the fried Flounder at $11.25 were a delight as it was not dry but flavor-able. Lastly a burger at $6.00 was average to resonate nothing beyond ordinary. My Cabernet Sauvignon was average while my very delightful friend's Blue Moon hits the spot. Mainland New Yorkers flock to The Wharf for the beautiful 180 degree view of Jamaica Bay and Brooklyn from Rockaway Peninsula, without obstruction, on their large deck rather for the mediocre food. The decorum is a very nautical seaside theme of a white deck including a Ship's wheel anchored on deck. Facilities are clean without doubt. This restaurant is off the road and inhabits a free parking facility.
Note: CASH ONLY, no form of plastic is accepted but there is a ATM machine located on premises. The correct city is Rockaway Park, NOT Far Rockaway.
Well this place is probably great when it is warm
Outside to sit with a beer and look over the ocean but inside it is kind of a trashy dive.
Let's start with its cash only, so make sure you have some cash.
It is definitely off the main road, past a gas station. There is parking, so you can drive right up and park.
The service was okay, our waitress was nice, brought over a coloring book for my boyfriend's niece and had a high hair for her. But when it came time to reorder drinks, she was MIA. She did come check on us every so often but it just wasn't enough and she was easily accessible.
We ordered the chicken quesadilla, French dip sandwich, sweet potato fries and calamari.
The calamari was NOT good at all, it was actually kind of icky. The quesadilla was okay, very average. The French dip was really delicious, simple but delicious and the fries were fries. Our waitress did forget them but we eventually were able to remind her.
I had a Stella cider and my boyfriend had a Amstel light and a cider also.
The whole meal came out to be 54, which was appropriate considering. It may even be a little overpriced but the view needs to be considered.
I will probably not come back, unless it is to visit his niece again and I think I'll just have a couple drinks instead .
