The type of bar this is and the general vibe you get out of it – click on their website and it will direct you to exactly what you may have already heard or expected. It's a bro bar. A bro college bar where you get your cheap beer on. Or in our ravenous Yelpers after party case – our $2 Taco Tuesday on. They weren't bad tacos. But I was also pretty drunk so everything was delicious by this point. Their side of mac and cheese – really good and on point. Creamy, kind of on the velveeta shells and cheese path but in the good way. Their disco fries (cheese and gravy) kind of sub par and not really worth the extra money. It was more gravy than cheese and I was lured into ordering this after I just asked for French fries initially. They have a punching bag machine somewhere in the back (I missed this). And a das boot on their menu. Which I've heard of because some of my friends have done it before. It's a 96 oz tub of beer, kids. My wild and crazy days may be for the most part over but hey, who can say no to $2 tacos on a Tuesday night? Also, as a warning, I have never not walked past this place on a weekend and seen it jam packed to the willy nilly with early 20 something year olds. We're talking can't breathe can't move kind of packed.
Was excited to drink beer out of the boot until we were told it was 35$. Um no thank you. The bar was also very grimy, sticky, and dead. Do yourself a favor and go to another bar cause that area is surrounded by better bars with reasonable pricing. Blegh
I feel like this bar is a very frat, bro bar that doesn't really jive well with the neighborhood. The big school nearby is NYU where a sports program and school spirit barely exist. We went one night on a thirsty thursday and there were seats and it wasnt too packed.
Our bartender was a sweetheart and got our drinks very quickly. I ordered 2 sangrias that are only $5 on thursday nights for the ladies night event that they have.
I would only go back cause our bartender was nice, that's it.
I never started my night here, but I certainly have ended them. Why? Because this a bar with a relaxed atmosphere, comfort food, and solid beer. Taco in a bag, I'm looking at you. The prices are reasonable for Manhattan, although I would not say they are exactly cheap. Really the biggest attraction for me is the atmosphere; my friends know we can roll in and just be ourselves. That's all we need.
A fairly decent dive bar in the NYU area. Can't beat those prices!
Went in for a pint and even though a Sam Adams cost $6.50, I wasn't all that surprised being in Manhattan. I usually like dive bars and such dingy places.
I'm giving it a 3 star rating is because of it's cleanliness. The bathrooms were not cleaned and the place looked a little unhygienic. You can have a dive bar and still look neat and clean. For me, that's a good reference point.
Not to take away from the barkeeps and the servers. Everyone was really nice and kind and were very efficient with their service.
I come by here on Tuesdays. So not judging the other nights. Chill and relaxed bar with friendly bar staff and if you meet the owner he is super cool and down to earth. Cheap beer, $2 tacos on Tuesday nights. Kitchen closes by 11:30pm-12am I believe. They also have comedy going on on Tuesday nights where comedians work out their stuff and makes the night memorable. If you are not into that the bar is spacious enough that you don't have to be a part of it. They also have TVs for sports by the bar. I always have a great time here. Not sure why the low reviews from some or what they were expecting. It is simple, you come here to get cheap drinks, mingle with friends, and take advantage of food specials. It does get crowded on weekends.
absolutely 0 frills here–but then again who needs them? cheap drafts. tvs all around. friendly bar staff. oh, and you can get a boot for $25. i see the other reviews calling it a simple dive bar…..okay. do we really need all that other mess all the time? Pshhh ill be back to TJs for sure.
Unless you are really into the 80s, this place is OK, but ultimately forgettable.
I had a burger which came served on a wire-mesh tray barely lined with a thin sheet of wax paper. As you can imagine, the grease/crumbs pretty much got all over the table. This is also probably why the table was in the condition it was to begin with. The burger was served to me practically well done, though I had asked for medium.
The prices are good, but the service was slow which was odd since we were 2 of 6 people in the place. They had some tempting happy hour specials, but alas I had to drive.
