The ambiance to me outdid the food. The place is very stylish, with low level Edison lighting to make it cozy and warm. The menu looked really appetizing, but I found the execution to come up short. We ordered the small plate sampler and of the 4 dishes, and honestly the portion size wasn't great for our group. We had 3 people and each of the 4 dishes came out with 2 pieces of each. I would have hoped that the waiter would have told us that there wouldn't be enough for each of us to have a whole piece of each. I would have expected him to actually give us the option to add additional so that if we wanted to pay an up charge we would at least be able to do so. So we had to split up the dishes (awkwardly…I mean there really isn't a good way to split a deviled egg…everyone deserves a half) and all in all, not that impressed. The deviled egg filling was borderline runny, the ricotta crostini was easily replicated, the chorizo corquette was good but where was the meat? And I think that the lamb skewer was the only redeeming dish on the plate (thank god that was the item I got the whole one of!). Oysters were good though. And it was pretty cool that they had a $1 oyster option on the menu among some other good ones. Not a place that I'm rushing back to given the fact I'm not a local.
Deal Seeking Diva tip: Invest in a $10 glass of wine and enjoy $1 oysters.
The Camlin is a wonderful spot for both a group dinner or a romantic date. We came here as a group of 6 and were easily accommodated. The ambiance/decor is so modern and chic, and felt very taken care of by our server.
We wanted to try as much as possible, and we enjoyed absolutely everything. We started with 12 oysters, deviled eggs, pretzel nuggets, shrimp skewers, and a selection of cheese. My favorite item was the deviled eggs, which were SO good (and I'm very particular about my deviled eggs). The portions were shareable and the server helped us order enough for everyone. Their cheese selection was very vast and we got to try some unfamiliar types. For larger items, we ordered the chopped salad, the sauteed sugar snap peas, and the bibb lettuce salad. The two salads were SO good, I would go back just for them. They were so hearty and creative (especially the chopped) and everyone really enjoyed them. The peas were also good, but just a tad too saucy.
The Camlin also has a fantastic drink list, and their sommelier is extremely knowledgeable. I loved the two different negronis, and I was able to dry wines that I had never heard of before. I really appreciated how varied and well-curated the wine list was (but also very approachable at the same time).
I highly recommend checking out this restaurant, plus the view is pretty cool too!
Came for brunch. Great drinks and oysters. Cheeses were on point! Entrees were a bit lackluster. I recommend for cocktails and oysters.
My fiancé and I stumbled across The Camlin as we were looking for dinner in the area, and we were so glad we stopped in! We ordered their chicken sandwich, caesar salad, and patatas bravas. Everything was top notch. The service was great as well.
Cute brunch place/wine bar in Brooklyn with the main advantage of never being crowded. Decent portion and prices, strong coffee drinks and friendly staff, it's a go-to in the neighborhood. Bonus for the complimentary sparkling water. Minus points for waiting forever to take the order and get the check and the Ikea-like tables.
Oh gosh. This was probably my first time to Williamsburg in about 10 years. So totally different now. The Camlin is on a nice quiet little block just off the water, and right next to Oddfellows (hello dessert!). We had a blackboard eats coupon which is why we made the trek down, and I'm so glad we did.
Their interior is very Scandinavian modern. Clean and simple, low tables with stools and benches (not a fan of stools personally, I like to be able to sit back, but that's just personal preference). It's a very nice open, calming atmosphere.
During the summer it appears that they run a special menu of roses by the glass. Which is awesome. They're all decently priced and served perfectly chilled. Really can't complain.
We ordered the appetizer sampler with the lamb kebabs, the goat cheese and pea crostini, the cheese croquettes, and the deviled eggs. I can say with certainty that not a single one of these was disappointing. The lamb kebabs were actually ground lamb, similar to keftedes, and seasoned to perfection. They were perfectly cooked, juicy, not dry. Ugh. I wish I had ordered a whole 'nother plate of them. The cheese croquettes remind me very much of the ones popular in Holland. A fluffy potato and cheese mixture that's deep fried yet somehow still light and airy. You could probably eat a million and not even feel stuffed. And that's not a bad thing. The winner though, by far, were the deviled eggs. And I don't even like deviled eggs. I don't know what voodoo magic goes into those but I nearly had to fight off my fiance so I could finish mine.
The entrees are very much focused on that sort of whole grain healthy eating that's all the rage right now. Which doesn't really bother me. Everything comes in large portions so you don't leave hungry. I ordered the chopped salad which comes artfully plated in neat little rows of chopped vegetables and grains that you mix together. It was the perfect dinner for a hot summer night.
By the end of the meal we were so totally stuffed we couldn't even walk next door to Oddfellows to look. Which I think is the real win here. We will definitely be coming back. It's a nice quiet spot off the main drag in Williamsburg so it feels more intimate. So happy we found this place.
I was with three friends and we randomly stumbled into this spot after walking the Williamsburg Bridge. We absolutely LOVED it.
The space is super open & trendy. The service was great. The windows were open and the breeze was beautiful. We had wine and gimlets, shared oysters & a meat/cheese platter.
The oysters were awesome- we had a random assortment but really loved the dollar oyster selection. And, the cheeses were all stellar (I could've done double cheese & no meat). They also threw an extra cheese on the platter, which was greatly appreciated.
Overall, such a great experience and can't wait to go back!
The Camlin has a location a few blocks off the main tourist area in Williamsburg but still has that feel of a place that tries to be cool but not really succeeding. I do however love the light coming in from the many large windows and the large mirror gives the room a really spacious feel. The service was really fast and attentive so we were seated right away and presented with the menu options
We mainly came here for some wine and they do have a good wine list, especially happy with the selection by the glass with around 20 wines available to select from. After the first evenings introduction to the size of a glass of wine we asked if it was possible to do half-glasses and no problem at all. We sampled some of the local rosé from Long Island and that was surpisingly good. The Canadian riesling also impressed as well as the surprisingly complex Sauvignon Blanc from California. It was clear the wine list had been considered and with decent price level I would definitely come back here again for a glass. The wine list is a good mix of the normal old world wine countries but also a few interesting US wines mixed in as well as some interesting old world stuff as well. If I would improve anything it would perhaps be the selection of sparkling by the glass as it was now 'just' a Cremant and a cava. The cava was from solid producer Privat so nothing wrong with it just not very exciting.
The food was very good without reaching exceptional levels. A very nicely made steak with great herb butter as well as a juicy chicken burger were very good and I would be happy to have either again. The selection of cheese and charcuteries was also very good. They also make a good cup of coffee and use Stumptown beans so altogether a very good place for wine but also for food and coffee.
