I have never had such a horrible experience at an Applebee's before. Moreover, I've never given 1 star in any of my reviews, so this really shows you how disappointed I was with the service here. We were a decent sized party with many kids, so taking that into consideration, we had our order written down to avoid any mix-ups. The order was read to our waiter and he was clearly jotting down each item while listening and glancing at our list simultaneously. There really shouldn't have been any confusion. Anywho, here is where our complaints begin: 1) After we placed our order, the manager came out to inform us that they ran out of macaroni for the mac n cheese and must replace it with linguini. We are not picky and very understanding so we went with it, but still, how do you run out of macaroni? 2) The order took a while to come out, and when it did, all the sides for the kids weren't what we ordered. We asked for 1 kids meal with yogurt and 4 with fries, but only received 1 with fries and 3 with yogurt (Note, we ordered 5 and only received 4. Apparently, my nephew's order was never taken down for some reason). 3) The linguini that supposedly replaced the macaroni was PENNE, not linguini. You should really know the difference between your pastas, esp if you're in the restaurant industry. 4) We asked that the sides on the kids meals be corrected and replaced with fries, and they took forever! Fries do not take long to make! My poor little nephew's entire dish in particular, came out 10 min before we left, and this is upon sitting there for app. an hour. This kid was picking fries from my niece's plates because he was starving! 5) May I add, when my nephew's meal came out, we were told by a waitress that 4 more kids meals were arriving because they misuderstood us when we told them we were still missing the 5th plate. They thought we meant we wanted to order 5 more kids meals with fries! We all shockingly reacted with a WHAT THE….?!!
It was a frustrating and painful meal. It took a lot of effort to get the waiters to understand what "we are still missing 1 kids meal with fries" and "we ordered these with fries not yogurt" meant. Oh, the food wasnt good either. As Taylor Swift would say… Applebees in Harlem, we are NEVER ever ever getting back together.
Decided to stop in one early Sunday afternoon while I waited for my dog at Petsmart. The place was nearly empty and yet service was non-existent and my food was nowhere near hot.
This Applebee's is the go to lunch after shopping. I like the new menu especially the Maple Bacon Chicken Piadini! The chicken was so moist and tender. The sweet potato fries hit the spot. I will get this dish again.
My daughter had the fish and chips. She loved the cole slaw on the side. When she says she would order that again I know it was good!
We had the nicest server Amanda D. She remembers us from the last visit. She even remembered my last order. They are good about my allergies and the food prepared just right.
The location is convenient, clean, and a welcome happy atmosphere. They open early at 11 AM.
We will definitely keep this as our go to lunch place when shopping at East 117 Street!
We ate lunch here on June 24th 2014. We waited a very long time to be seated, although there were many available tables. The hostess seemed to be dazed and confused. After about 30 minutes of waiting, we were seated and the waitress came over right away and took our order for drinks and food. The food came quickly enough and surprisingly, everything was presented nicely and was very fresh. We normally don't eat at chain restaurants, but we were not looking to take a long time looking for a place to eat ( we were babysitting for family ) because we had a small child with us. I ordered the Oriental Chicken Salad (dressing on the side) and my Darling had a combo lunch special with a Club sandwich and a strawberry/arugula salad. The lettuce was cold, fresh, and not wilted. The chicken on both salads was cooked perfectly and not dry. Although the service was very slow, we survived. We probably won't be going here again when we visit our family, but it sufficed for today.
