  1. First off, I love IHOP! Almost anytime I go to a different city I g to IHOP. I have been to this location twice. The first time, I ordered the chicken florentine crepes, GROSS, OILY, and INCOMPLETE! They were missing the sauce that comes with it. I tried it again about a year later and same experience! Got the stuffed french toast(which is my normal meal)…French toast was dry as hell, Eggs was watery and I said add cheddar cheese to the eggs, not add eggs to the cheddar cheese, it was covered with cheddar cheese. The hash browns were soggy, the turkey bacon was extremely oily and HARD. I told the hostess/waitress of this, she offered me more food, however I figured if you can not get breakfast foods right at a breakfast spot you cant get anything right! I actually called the 1800 number on the receipt to make a complaint, they never called me back.

  2. I love some Ihop pancakes.  Let's get that out the way! So when my friend and I were super hungry I was happy to see bam right there in front of us an Ihop.  Entering the place it just had a weird vibe going on.
We were seated and ordered.  Food was fine.  Waitress was fine.  The negatives were the lack of cleanliness surrounding us.  The booth across from us was not cleared away from the previous guests the whole time we were there.  Also the other party that  had just left a few minutes after we arrived, same situation.  Table and floor was full of plates and garbage on the floor the entire time we were there. No bueno.  How hard is it to clear the tables/area after a guest leaves.
We were also served our food with no utensils to eat it with.  Ummm Yeah.  As much as I like Ihop I don't see myself going to this location again.

  3. We dropped in just because we wanted to attend the Gospel Mass in Harlem on a Sunday morning, at the Abyssinian Baptist church,  which is aroud the corner.
The staff was very friendly even though I asked for some specific modifications to the pancakes due to some allergy.
Loved the atmosphere of old times, with families from the Harlem community all dressed up for the Mass… all of a suddent it seemed to be back in the 50's.

  4. I read many of the reviews, and didn't know what to expect coming here.  Mostly, I thought the the service might be a bad/slow.  However, we had a good experience.

Came here very early on a Saturday (around 8:30/8:45am) with my dad.  We are big IHOP fans – usually in the burbs.

There were only a few other people there at that time.  The place is huge.  Definitely surprising, considering that the space is in Manhattan.  It looks new and very clean.

We were seated right away.  Our waitress was super nice and the service was fast.  The menu had so many options.  Only thing was that I wanted the Pumpkin pancakes, which was on the menu, but she said it's not available until October!  Boo IHOP!

Our food came out pretty quickly.  I was surprised because Harlem service, generally, tends to be veeerrry slow (read my other Harlem food reviews).  But not here.  The food was good and the service friendly and quick.

The price was nearly double what I would pay in any suburban IHOP.  I know because we regularly eat at IHOP and get the same types of items.  If you don't come often, it won't break your bank.

  5. I cant believe I didnt write a review for this place.  Have been here more times than I would like to admit and each and every time it's bad.  Would give two stars bc hubby liked his meal BUT my plate was still pretty full when we left.

I was forced to come here this last time bc hubby was lazy to walk to Maison Harlem and this is where we ended up.  Admittedly I was very reluctant to go but I did.

We arrived and had to wait about 10 minutes for our waitress to come over and say that we should give her a minute and she would be right over.  After 2-3 minutes she came back and took our drink orders: Iced vanilla coffee and tropical twist.  She brought the drinks but forgot the straws.  Had to wait for her to come back about 5 minutes later with straws to stir and then drink.  Both drinks were incredibly SUPER sweet (I got a headache after)

He had the breakfast sampler and I was supposed to have the Simple Fit Whole Wheat pancakes meal (with turkey bacon and egg substitute).  Since our waitress Stephany didnt write anything down she had to come back after taking our order to ask hubby what he wanted again.  Then she brought our orders and actually brought me the Simple Fit Hearty grain pancakes (with only egg substitute) and I didnt want to wait for them to make another set of pancakes.  I had to wait another 5-8 minutes for them to "fry" up my turkey bacon.  .  However she tried to tell me my meal didnt come with any meat and I had to ask for the menu to prove it to her.  My egg substitute was runny and not at all appetizing.  The guy across from us complained about the same thing.  How can you mess up egg substitute???

When checking out manager asks how it was: hubby chimes in and tells him I hated it.  Manager says " I apologize" rings us up and that is the end of that.  Total cost: $29.02 (before tip).  Hate it and now I've written it off for good.

  6. Went to this restaurant to dine.  I was seated immediately.  No server came by to  take my meal or drink order.  I waited at least 5-10 minutes . The gentlemen who seated walked my past my table and I told him no one stopped by table. He apologized and someone will be over soon.  I continue to wait AND NO ONE CAME.  What made it worst was they were slow and 3 tables around me were being assisted. I decided to get up and leave.  Hopeful if I visit again I can change the star from a 1 to something better.

  7. Five stars for one of the only two "International" House of Pancakes (IHOP) in Manhattan. (The other's in the East Village.)

Yes, five stars. What?! Five stars for IHOP? That's impossible. OK. Ever wonder if the problem is more YOUR snobbery than anything wrong with IHOP?

Let's be honest. Despite what any of the overpriced brunch places would have you believe, there isn't much upside to a pancake or an omelette. It's not basketball. It's eggs and starch. IHOP does it well and provides an atmosphere conducive to conversation. I wrote a good chunk of my dissertation at the Philadelphia IHOP. Staff is always super friendly. I'd avoid going on Friday/Saturday nights: lots of awkward high school "dates" or drunken revelry.

In addition to pancakes, omelets, and waffles, I also highly recommend the chocolate milkshakes.

Personally, I use IHOP as a litmus test. If I see your face flinch when I suggest or say we're going to IHOP, guess what? Not my kind of person. Go to Per Se and good luck in the next recession while we eat the food of the people.

  8. I went here for breakfast a party of one. They say me in the back no one approached me for 20 minutes and the restaurant was not packed. One waiter kept looking over at me but since I was not in his section did not offer to help. After my 20 minutes of waiting a waiter approached me and apologized. My order came within 12 minutes but I did not have enough time to eat it. I figured since it was not packed I could order and eat my food in 40 minutes. Apparently, I had unrealistic expectations. The food came and it was not as the menu picture, but was still edible. I was trying to pack my food to go but my waiter was talking to some other customers for over 5 minutes. I didn't mind if I could just pay my bill and get a box. At the end of the day it was $5 what can you expect.
