A-OK spot in Cranford to get a beer. I swung by with a buddy the other day: good amount of space, nice staff, and good selection of solid beers on tap. The nachos weren't bad, but I didn't leave craving to come back (the staple feeling for a 3/5 spot).
Have been here a couple times for drinks and they play good music at night. Went one day to have lunch with my sister and was seated in the back room. It had a foul Odor in the room. Left without ordering. Was worried if it smelt that bad was the restaurant clean :/
Conveniently located across the street from the train station. Nice cocktail menu with diverse drinks. There are tables located in the back as well as the front. Staff was super nice and there corned beef was delicious.
Burger was also really juicy but the French fries tasted like they were boiled.
Definitely another town bar but not so divey. There was live music, only one singer/guitarist which was Irish.
They also had bagpipers come and play for st Paddy's.
Overall an okay bar to hang out for a short period.
I could see this Irish pub being a regular spot for many since it's perfectly located in Cranford, across from the train station right on the main street. I went for Father's Day with the man's fam and his grandma, who may be the coolest lady ever, I just needed to throw that in there.
They do have a brunch menu they don't advertise on their website, at least on Sundays. I wasn't feeling breakfast so I went with the cajun chicken sandwich. Others in my party ordered the French Toast, Shepherd's pie, a Reuben and salads. I can't speak for anyone, but my sandwich was good. Although a little small, it was stuffed with grilled chicken, cheddar and had a bit of a kick to it. I opted for a side salad and it was fresh, but pretty basic.
I heard nothing but great things from the Shepherd's Pie and the Reuben looked pretty delicious. I do have to say that the fries, the few that I ransacked from my neighbor's plate, were pretty greasy and not that amazing.
If I do come back to hang with Grandma M and I'm feeling especially indulgent, the bison burger looked ridiculous, smothered in a Brie artichoke dip. I can see why people on Yelp rep it so hard.
Service was meh. The place isn't pricey at all and it's deceptively big with a back room and bar. Definitely a solid spot.
** They are playing the World Cup games on all 3-4 screens. If any soccer fans are reading this!
I have been here so many times this year that this review is LONG overdue. The staff here is always friendly and helpful. They also have live music on Sundays (so if you want to talk and have a better chance of hearing one another, sit in the back room). The beer selections are not bad although I feel a bit limited. I've had a variety of things here: baked artichoke brie dip (pretty good); reuben (regularly get this – loads of lean meat; tasty); curly fries (how can you not like these?); chicken fingers (like how it's not overly breaded and seemed healthy); fish & chips (small portion for the price but I think the taste was ok); chopped salad (it changes but the ones I've had were good – the best had to be the one with fruit in there); rib eye sandwich (yum); burgers (not as interesting to me). In the warmer months they have seating outside which is nice.
Great pub for a bite or a drink ! I came in the early March and they already had the Spring Sam Adam Ales – that's a huge plus in my book, I love a bar that stays on top of their beer game.
TRY THE JACK DANIELS WINGS, crispy on the outside and so tender on the inside with a sauce so good I wanted to lick the plate. Skip on the Joe's "Grown Up" Mac and Cheese — it was more of a pasta smothered in sauce with an overbearing broccoli taste and no cheese. The Fish and Chips was great – fish was super fresh and fried lightly and fries were amazing! My only regret was not ordering the Kilkinney beer which they have on tap – I heard great things about it from friends who always visited the pub. I cant wait to come back !
Good spot! I've been here twice. Both times I got the same crispy chicken sandwich because it is so good! We also ordered the Mac and cheese which is excellent. This place is an Irish bar and it has a big bar area that seems to be a hang out later on at night. The back room is quieter but we were sat at a tiny table by the back door that people were going out of. It made our dining experience pretty cold.
My friends and I were looking for a place near Elizabeth that could accommodate us (around 10 people) and Kilkenny was able to seat us in the restaurant area very quickly. We got kind of lucky with the timing because soon after we sat down a lot more people began to sit at the other tables.
The restaurant area is nicely separated from the pub so it's much quieter, not as dim, and is nice for a larger group to talk and catch up without shouting over other peoples' conversations or music. Speaking of the music, there seemed to be an eclectic mix of ethnic songs that seemed odd inside of an Irish establishment. At one point there was something that sounded very Jamaican. Anyways…
I ordered the "Grown up mac and cheese," which one of my friends said just proves I'm still a little kid. Regardless, I had no regrets. This mac and cheese had great sauce in addition to irish bacon, irish sausage, cajun chicken, onions, and broccoli. Yup, all of that. And it was great.
