  1. Much better bar than a restaurant.
    Decent beer selection.
The specialty cocktails are not really special.
    The burgers are pretty average.
    The prices are definitely reasonable.
    The servers are pretty friendly.
The decor is that of a dive-bar.

Basically, it's a Livingston staple.  A good enough place to grab a drink with local friends or to have a few Aps if you're absolutely famished.  Just don't expect anything high end.

  2. This is our version of Cheers. We've been going here since first year residents, our program director delivered all of their babies and/or coached their little league games, and we can call ahead in advance "for the table in the back" and we are always taken care of. I can show up in scrubs here after a hard days work and always feel like family. I've even brought my friends and family here for comfort food at a decent price. This is a no frills kinda place, but it does the job and is always packed. The fried green beans, mac and cheese, and old world pizza are where it's at!!!! OMG, can I go back now!?!?

  3. I'm not picky, but I've got pretty simple taste.

And because of that, I eat alot of grilled cheese. Cheese, bread. Bread, cheese. Maybe throw on some tomatoes for good measure. It's pretty much an unbreakable combo. I know grilled cheese well, and I also know that a grilled cheese craving can be hard to ignore. Because of that, I found myself at Landmark while running some errands in Livingston.

Everything about Landmark was cute, minus the grilled cheese. I loved the small town feel — you can definitely tell that it's the type of joint where everyone knows each other. They've got a very expansive menu with just about every type of fried and greasy option imaginable. There was cheap beer and football on every tv. But, amidst all of this awesomeness, my grilled cheese was lackluster, ill-prepared and just straight up upsetting. The bread was soggy and covered in butter, the cheese was haphazardly assembled and the tomatoes just tasted weird. The highlight of my meal was the pickle spear.

My BF wasn't really feeling his wings either. We longingly gazed at the table behind us, where a couple was enjoying a bar pie that looked aceeeee. If there is a next time, I'll stay as far away from the grilled cheese as possible.

  4. So….yeah…..I honestly don't know where to begin.

I'll start off positive- my fried calamari was excellent, and the food for the rest of the table looked really good. There was cheese steaks ordered (both chicken and beef) nachos grande, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, fries with cheese and gravy, a turkey club. All looked really good and tasted great.

My waitress was the rudest person on the planet. I'm not going to elaborate much further than that. I think I will consider going back but if they are rude to me on that level again I'm calling them out.

My lobster bisque soup was returned. I wasn't eating that.

  5. I am so sorry about the horrible attitude of the waitresses. After reading numerous reviews and eating there several dozen times, I have to call the rude wait staff refreshing. In the world of "Hi, I'm Brianna and I'm going to be taking care of you…" or "Can I start you off with some extreme nachos", the lack of formal introductions or upsale suggestions is a welcome change. They're tired. They work hard for their money. If bubbly effervesce is your choice, there is a Chilis or Applebees a short ride away.

The place is a dive. A dive that serves really good food and drinks. Their pizza is great, their salads, meh. But their ribs are awesome and more than make up for the unimpressive salads. They also have a pay phone. I like places that have pay phones. You never see pay phones anymore. More places should have them. They bring back an era before waitresses became servers and felt it absolutely necessary to introduce themselves because God forbid someone fills out an annoying online survey and mentions that they didn't, they're screwed.

The Landmark has no online survey and if they did, I would give them all 10s and yeses. Can't say that for their cheerier competition. And did I mention that they have a payphone?

  6. The Landmark is just that, a landmark bar/restaurant in Livingston. Been there for years. Local joint with curiosity seekers coming in. I
It's simple. It's small. Not much atmosphere.
Beers on tap are decent. They are known for their burgers. Expectations are high. The burger was average. Seriously on a scale of 1-10, it's a 5. Needed some pizzazz. Some energy. Pickle was good. The bread needs some work.
Bartenders are friendly but preoccupied. Locals get top billing here. Always busy. We went on a rainy evening and it was busy.
Expect average bar food. Nothing more please.

  7. I love Landmark, except when it's crowded so I carefully plan my visits. Caesar salad is terrific, sweet potato fries are the best, chicken sandwich is wonderful and don't get me started with the pizza.

The staff has been there forever and they know everyone, no matter how long it has been since your last visit .

It is a dive but a good dive.  A great lunch alternative too!

  8. I've been enjoying myself at The Landmark for thirty plus years. Having grown up in Livingston, it wasn't hard. Tasty food, good drinks, the place fit like a cherished old pair of sneakers. So why am I just posting a review now? Good question.

Great burgers prepared to desired temp. Excellent thin crust pizza. Ribs. Fries, steak and sweet potato are always good as are the onion rings. Good selection of brews. I'll have a Stella or two, thanks.

Service is gruff, terse and just exactly perfect. You might not like it. I do. When my son completed fourth grade, I asked where he wanted to go for a celebratory meal. He replied, "The Landmark!" When asked why, he said, because of the excellent service! Out of the mouth of babes… He also really loves the pizza. Now a rising junior at High School, we still visit The Landmark on the last day of school nestled comfortably in my beloved hometown.

Go, don't go. I don't care. We'll continue enjoying ourselves.
