  1. Great food, Great service. Big fan of their gyro platter. The ice cream is not typical diner ice cream either. Winner!

  2. I've never actually dined here but I've eaten food from Mitchell enough times to write a review (I think)

I don't love the food but don't get upset with me just yet, hear me out. My peeps who LOVES their food says it's proper American food. So maaaaaaybe it's my Caribbean palate dat doh know ah good ting when it hit meh.

Sometimes we call ahead and pick up. Many times we request delivery (which is always quuck), and on other occasions we've showed up and ordered straight off the menu. Everything looks great! Portions seems just about right.

Some staff members can be a bit aloof and others very Valley Stream (talk a lot) friendly. I see this as a personality thing rather than a Mitchell's issue. Like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get.
Sidebar: How do you not know what type of chocolates you bought ? What do you….never mind. Today I'm writing as mixed up as I sometimes think, which isn't always a good thing.

Anyway….The one thing I absolutely enjoy from here is a spinach pie. That is what yummy is!

My rating is all based on what my peeps have said. Their reactions say three stars.

    The End.

  3. The Quick: Fantastic salads, crispy mouth watering onion rings, and everything good in between.

The Details: This is one of my go to diners for just flavorful food in Long Island, especially the salads. What really sets the gigantic salads apart is the homemade Greek dressing which has chunky tomato and peppers, with a salsa like texture. The Greek yogurt sauce is also fantastic.  I've had almost every salad on the menu and they are all gigantic with fantastic grilled chicken/ salmon toppers.

The onion rings are also perfection. They were so crispy and juicy yet not covered in oil… In a weird way they felt almost healthy but obviously not. Literally the best onion rings ever had.

Room for improvement? The lunch menu has not seemed to have changed into years… It would be nice to try more variety.

The Damage: An entree, coffee, dessert, and shared onion rings came to about $20/person. I also have half of my salad left to enjoy later.

  4. This is a classic diner in the Valley Stream area for quite some time. While there is nothing special about this diner, it is always consistent and the service is pretty good for the amount of traffic that the diner receives. They have quite a few large screen TV's so it's nice when a game is going on. The food is good, and this is slowly becoming my go-to diner in the area.

  5. I was looking for a new diner to try out on the Island and came across Mitchell's since they were the only diner open at 8am on a Sunday morning. So I decided to give it a try, not knowing what to expect of this place. On the outside it seemed like a fancy restaurant and not a diner. As I made my way inside I got this cozy vibe. This is a very well maintained diner. The seats are well upholstered and very clean tables. We were greeted by a very friendly host and were seated promptly. On my first visit I ordered the eggs benedict- two poached eggs, canadian bacon, toasted english muffin, topped with hollandaise sauce with home fries $8.50. My second time around I ordered a Cheese Omelette $7.50 plus $1.00 for cheese plus .50 cent for onion and a side of home fries.

The food was good on both occasions and friendly waitress. All-in all a good diner in the Valley Stream area. Free parking on early weekend just a block away. If hungry and close by I would stop in again.

  6. Mitchell's is a great take-out option in Valley Stream.  Their menu is huge, with many options for all eaters and their prices are reasonable for the generous portions.  Their delivery service isn't the fastest, I would definitely recommend picking up any take-out orders.

Dining in at Mitchell's has a great diner atmosphere with friendly staff. Fun place for a quick meal!

  7. I wasn't sure what to expect, but at 11pm on a Saturday, it was one of few places that was still
    open serving food.

The info: Mediterranean salad my friend had was huge and looked awesome, food was fresh tasting and quickly came out of the kitchen, even at such a late hour. Good, quick service. What else do you need?

  8. A typical diner. What do you expect? I only know about Mitchell's because when I was in high school, I was in a club that would ALWAYS come here as a tradition after every show. I enjoy the quesadillas and burgers. Oh! And the ice cream. I have tried some of their sandwiches which were alright. The burgers are like 7$-10$ and some come with fries and sides, etc etc. The prices are really reasonable and the portions are ok. I always tried to play safe when ordering food here. It's an alright place.. There's so many other places in the area to eat.. This place is just one of those decent ones on Rockaway.
