Unimpressive and uninspired. This is a place that time forgot. While an old school Jersey institution, The Grasshopper felt just that–old. Aside from a sprinkling of young customers, the average age was north of 60.
The menu may just be as old and is in definite need of a facelift. Even the "specials" on a xerox insert felt like part of a regular rotation.
Feeling hesitant, I went with a burger. The meat was cooked to order, though served on a bun too large, and without the basic accoutrements of lettuce and tomato. The fries looked crisp and well done but were greasy and obviously left under a heat lamp.
The server was certainly friendly. Unfortunately she forgot my soup and brought it late. This led to my burger being brought out mid-soup, which is a definite no-no. NEVER bring out the mains before you've cleared the aps. That's just standard procedure and is never tolerable.
I don't see a need to return, with several pubs in the area doing the exact same thing with a far superior result.
