My first time to this restaurant and this town in NJ on recommendation by my cousins; it's apparently midway between where they live and my office.
What a neat neighborhood. I had some trouble me to soak it all in, although blustery cold tonight. I like the location of the restaurant it's in a great local and a parking garage adjacent makes coming here a pleasure!
I ordered the french onion soup, definitely one of my most favorite soups by far. It was prepared here quite ordinary, but none the less completely met my expectation. I ordered for my entree a steak salad, which was no doubt a very hearty size, but I was disappointed that the quality of the steak was real fatty and not the typical lean beef you normally see sliced thin in salads.
Our server was very pleasant and attentive to the needs of our table.
I found it interesting that there was no specific spot in the restaurant to be greeted at. I entered from what was apparently the side just off Walnut Avenue and entered through the bar. I climbed up the steps and wandered down a narrow hallway in search of the dining room. Perhaps for locals, it is a no brainer, but for me being a first timer in search of my relatives who had already arrived, I found it challenging to find them where they were already seated.
It is a very charming location, and I bet when warmer temperatures prevail, the outdoor deck is probably quite nice.
This place has the best outdoor seating in Cranford. It's generally moderately busy with a table available when you need it. Food is typical bar food and there's a large drink menu.
Lots of porch tables for an outdoor meal and good salads are nonalcoholic highlights. A recent visit revealed some service issues which could be easily fixed by more training/supervision–it took 3 requests to obtain bread, which finally arrived–but without butter and a request for iced coffee yielded a "we only serve hot coffee" without an offer to supply hot coffee and a cup of ice.
Came here for drinks – wish I had an appetite because all the food that was being delivered around me looked great.
As far as service goes, it was great- our bartender knew our name and was consistently looking around the bar to make sure everyone was being served and no one was waiting.
House staff were consistently on top of cleaning off our table and taking away empty glasses. I appreciate that.
I'll be going back for food and updating accordingly.
I was at a Yelp Event. Afterwards we all decided to come to The Cranford Hotel for after dinner drinks. We went to the lower level bar.
This place reminded me of an English pub. It had dark wood and dim lights and a very comfortable feel.
The bartender was very friendly and knowledgable and I could see he knew his stuff. On the walls were pictures of the previous owner and present owner along with everything that makes a bar homey.
I ordered a Guinness and I watched him fill the glass slowly to let the beer settle.
It was delicious and served at the proper temperature. In the back were some tables for people to have dinner or a quick nibble.
I must say I used the restrooms upstairs and they were extremely clean and spacious.
The next time I'm in the area I will stop in and try some of their food.
This was a cool spot that my BF took me to for a pre-birthday dinner…. It has a very relaxing atmosphere. The customer service was excellent…….. The waitress and servers were very attentive. It seems like a neighborhood favorite.
The entrees:
The spring rolls were very good and fresh. I had the steak with fries – the fries were fresh and fried to perfection – love it. The steak was also very good and tasty – I would have opted out of the blue cheese melted on top – that was a bit much.
My BF had a sandwich and he too thought that it was very good and tasty – I think it was called the Grilled Chicken Pannini….
I will definitely be back.
This is truly the Cheers of Cranford, and as a local, I love coming here. It's not a fancy place and don't expect a 5 star meal, but it's cozy and friendly and sometimes that's all you need at the end of a long day.
Draft beer changes fairly regularly and the bar food is good. Plus Tony is the best bartender in town!
An excellent non-Ethnic option when having a casual meal in Cranford. We had a couple of dietary requests that provided absolutely no problem for the staff and were easily accomplished.
I started with a good Caesar Salad and had the Rib Eye Steak with some excellent accompaniments. It's not fine dining but it is good comfort food in a cute bar setting.
