what can i say? this is the kinda place you hit up when ur starving and are short on both time and money….i'm actually embarrased to say i've been here 3-4 times and its always hit or miss…most of the time most of the food is cold and tastes like it's been sitting out for awhile….i usually take a bite out of everything on the buffet and fill up on sushi which is its only redeeming feature….u can get lucky and find one or two relatively decent sushi options any given day….i will say though, food was fresher when i was there for a private party….other than that, eh.
Ginger used to be called the Green Jade, a place I spent far too many Fridays at in high school. Thankfully the new ownership has upped the quality and added some terrific sushi, adding up to a solid buffet experience.
I rolled in for lunch, which is $10 lunch on weekends and holidays, $8 weekdays. Like I said before, the sushi is great. There are six full stations of different Asian and American foods to sample. Dishes range from traditional General Tso chicken to shrimp to jello. JELLLOOOOO!!
Also keep an eye out for the soft serve machine. You can never go wrong with those.
Basically if you are looking for a buffet in the Nutley area, park yourself at Ginger.
Attempting to try a new place for sushi & chinese food near the house, I yelp searched Ginger. After seeing the low ratings they have, I decided to give it a chance anyway.
I really should have listened to my fellow Yelpers.
I placed an order for pickup, as I was told that delivery would be well over an hour before it got to me. Granted it was a Friday night at dinner time, so I can totally understand.
Requesting no onions in the fried rice and no broccoli in the sesame chicken while placing my order (and having it read back to me word for word), my order would be ready in 30 minutes I was told.
When I walked in, the restaurant was not overly busy but the kitchen looked hopping. I paid for and picked up my order. When we started dishing out the food, I found that there were onions in the pork fried rice & broccoli with the chicken. Grrrrrr. Granted the sesame chicken was some of the best quality chicken I have seen from a restaurant. So thumbs up for that.
The sushi was eh. When I order something spicy, I want SPICY! Not not even mild. I don't understand why classify something as spicy when its not even close to being there.
I don't know if I will be back here again. I don't even think I would recommend it to anyone. But I am the sushi girl in the house and I was definitely NOT happy with the way they made my rolls.
The buffet looked good and well kept while walking through so maybe that is what they are best for.
2.5 to be exact. Round up for nostalgia.
Ginger has been here for a long time. This is your typical Chinese buffet. It is a good price, and do not expect the best food by any means. It does have a place that you can order takeout as well.
Because not many people come here at times, sometimes you can tell the food as been sitting there for a while. The nostalgia that I am talking about is when you are a poor teenager and I would come here for lunch. It is still very affordable today and if I needed to eat a lot of food in a pinch, this can just barely satisfy you. I have never had an issue with eating the food here so I cannot say anything too bad about this place. The kid in me is saying that I cannot stop eating the crab ragoons here, I know I can say that is good :).
For better options however, there is sushi across the street, along with a Thai restaurant nearby if Asian food is what you are looking for.
It's not a bad buffet! I mean, I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. It is what it is and it'll do if you're nearby. It's small selection to choose from, but the steamed ginger fish is probably one of the better cooked ones I've had in comparison to other buffets. Nothing spectacular but still a worthy option if you love seafood like me. They have brown rice for those on that kick. Chicken wings are good, sushi is just passing. A little too much rice if you ask me. Service is decent, but then again I was here for a private party. Actually, I'm only here during private parties.
Definitely come here for the crab rangoons. I cannot resist them! Always thin and crunchy.
