While working in the New Jersey area I am always looking for top notch GLUTEN FREE establishments. The coasts tend to know how to do food right and this place did not disappoint.
There is no meat options-just an FYI for meat eaters.
I arrived around 7PM on a Thursday night, I was the only customer which worked out great since I had a lot of questions about what I could and could not eat. Satish was a huge help! He went back and forth between the dining room and the kitchen to get my questions answered. We ended up chatting while I was waiting for my food since it was a slow night, he was very friendly and had good customer service.
I ended up with the Batata Vada and Navratan Korma, to be honest I have no idea which one was which. It was basically a curry with lot's of vegetables (yummy) and rice. The other was a potato dumpling deep fried in chick pea flour! It was served with two different sauces and both were delicious.
My meal was big enough to feed two, unfortunately I was flying out the next day so I ended up eating everything at once! It was so good I probably would have anyway.
The food was full of flavor and made from scratch. So good!
I will be back next time I am in NJ for work. Prices are reasonable. Service was friendly and efficient.
Parking is easy, they have a private lot, portions are large. I could see the dining room filling up quick during dinner hours. Restaurant is clean and well taken care of.
When we walked in, the place was empty but I was going to trust the Yelp reviews and test it out!
When we sat, the waiter gave us a big pitcher of water and some plastic cups. I prefer this rather than having to ask them to keep refilling my drinks for me.
The menu has no descriptions but thankfully, I knew my favorite paneer dishes!
The waiter was a bit pushy about the appetizers and my bf finally gave in and ordered the paneer methi tikki. I just knew there was cheese in it because it said paneer so I was a bit shocked when it came fried. I had half of one, it was good, not that amazing.
I got the paneer makhani. It was just the right amount of food and only $9 for it! Just a bowl of rice and a bowl of curry chock full of paneer cubes. Very good!
Before more customers came in, they kept asking us if every thing was good. We kept telling them yes. Thankfully, customers came in and then we were left alone a bit more. Haha! But at least they were attentive.
I'd definitely return if I were nearby more often especially if it were close for lunch!
Low Key, With High Taste.
We stumbled upon this place, while shopping for Indian clothes, and while it didn't look like anything special from the outside, the food was delicious.
First of all, this is located in essentially a small strip mall, so parking is a bit limited. I want to say there is parking on the street, but the signs on the road were a bit confusing if parking was allowed there or not past certain points. But it does have some parking, as part of the mall, but it shares the space with a busy jewelry store, and a busy clothing store, so it's limited. Have to be vigilant and decisive when someone emerges from the stores, so you can take their spot.
The inside of the store is very low key, almost like the inside of a sandwich shop. But, it's surprisingly neat, and there is one person working the counter. I don't know if we entered at a non peak time, but he was the one handling all the business. A very nice guy, friendly, and helpful. I thought the service was very good. The utensils are plastic, and I believe they had plastic cups for water as well.
The food was surprisingly good. I went with my parents, and as most Indian parents, they major in "I make this much better at home" theory with a minor in "Aunty (insert name) made this so much better, she should start a restaurant" philosophy. So it was rather surprising for them to actually appreciate the food as well from an Indian restaurant.
We ordered Bhautra, Oothappam and XL Masala Dosa between the three of us. The Bhatura was excellent, and the chick peas curry that accompanies it was wonderful. The Oothappam was also very good, and I believe it came with sambar and chutney. It was another hit. I ordered the XL Masala Dosa, and they aren't going light with the XL. This thing was the width of the table, and the guy had to bring out another plate to make sure it didn't touch the table. It was very nice, the dosa was crispy, but not flaky. I hate it when dosa all but falls apart when you break into it, but this one stayed together, had the right amount of crisp, yet being soft at the same time. It was accompanied by the same sambar/chutney combo. All three of these hit the spot. My parents ordered masala chai, and raved about it for the next hour.
Infact, we liked it enough, that after spending the next 6 hours shopping around all the Indian stores that surround this place, we decided to order out a quick meal before going home. They do have online ordering, so that was easy to place the order. We ordered Dahi Vada, and veggie Biriyani. The Dahi Vada was good, but I really appreciated the packaging. Dahi (Yogurt) obviously has the chance to spill, but it was double sealed in the package. The guy who did the packaging, placed one container with the yogurt, sealed it, and then placed another one over it, and sealed it, so even if it spilled, it would just spill into the next container, and not onto the car. That's double the cost of packaging for them, but I thought it was great that they went out of their way to seal it like that. The Biriyani was sealed that way as well to avoid spilling. I haven't seen that at many places, and definitely not at other Indian restaurants, so I have to give a hat tip to their packaging. The Dahi Vada was excellent, probably one of the best I've tried. The Biriyani was exceptional. I'm don't like too many veggies in my biriyani, and have a tendency to pick some out, but this was one of the few times where I actually just ate the biriyani without picking apart anything. It was a bit spicy, but it just seemed so good.
Overall, I give this place 5 stars, because the food was magnificently good, the service was very friendly, and the price wasn't outrageous at all. There are large portions as well. I'm not going to say it's the best Indian place I've been to (mainly because I've only been here once) but it's definitely near the top.
I wanted to visit this place to see how it justifies its glorious reviews , today we were here right after it opened for the day around 11:30 am ,parking in the complex was already filled with no more spaces left eventhough all the businesses just opened for the day .
We were greeted by who looked like one of the owners and the same person took our orders.
We ordered Masala Fries & Chilli Cheese Dosa .
Let me tell you the portions are HUGE, we shared the dishes between both of us and we still couldnt eat the entire stuff we ordered.
Fries had a thin batter which made them extremely Crunchy , I hate to say that the best fries I had in a while were not from an American Place but a DESI place .
Chilli cheese Dosa was excellent on so many levels, be it the Onion/ Cheese / chili stuffing, be it the crunchy Dosa itself , everything about it was great.
I swear no one could ever have 2 meals in a day from this place , the portions are that big.
Overall loved the food , loved the simple decor and loved how the owner was very friendly.
searched for the top-rated chaat spot on yelp, and this spot popped up at the top. totally lives up to it. spots on oak tree road are usually a dirty, mediocre, dilapidated mess. this place is none of those things. the restaurant is very clean, the aloo tikki chaat was served on a white plate, well portioned and delicious. it was really tasty, spicy, savory, not overloaded with too much yogurt or chutney. the aloo patties were perfectly fried, the channa was satisfying. can definitely see myself coming back here and trying some of the other dishes.
Wow, for such a small, obscure and almost unnoticeable place the food and service are both fantastic!! I happened to be parked in the parking lot in which it is located while bridal shopping. I yelped a place to eat in the area, looked up as fate had it I was looking at this gem of a place.
NOTE: this is a not a fancy spot…but it's a must. Great for a quick lunch while shopping. Something for everyone.
First, I will say that the service was fantastic. So fantastic that I asked the waiter/cashier his name : Vijay. Vijay was funny, friendly and very quick with suggestions as well as a few jokes. The other gentlemen working there was just as quick. You could tell that they work like a well oiled machine and despite many of the tables being full they were able to be attentive to everyone. Excellent service on all accounts.
And on to the food:
1) Appetizers: I chose the Paneer Methi Tikki after seeing pictures on yelp and getting a brief description from Vijay. DELICIOUS!! If you want a savory snack, this is it! We also got the masala fries, which were actually regular fries and I would skip them as they were the least memorable of all of the dishes.
2) Entrees:
Saag Paneer: My mom got the saag paneer (one of her favorite dishes so she is critical) and said it was excellent. Not too spicy, but not bland…just right.
Masala Dosa: My fiance (a little picky, esp with indian food) got this upon Vijay's suggestion. The largeness of the dosa was a little shocking and he looked like he wasn't going to eat it, but then once he started eating he thoroughly enjoyed it and left satisfied!
Capsicum Chili Cheese Dosa: This was soooo good. It was a bit on the spicy side (which I love) and if you are choosing between this or the chili cheese dosa, then this is the way to go. It was like an upgraded grilled cheese dosa sandwich and with the sambal and coconut chutney – EXTREMELY SATISFYING.
We also got an order of dhal which was absolutely perfect – almost like home.
3) Dessert
They didn't have ice cream because the refrigerator broke, but Vijay suggested that we get the kulfi. I got pineapple and mango. Both were homemade and I am not a fan of kulfi, but I must say that this was the best I've had.
My mother got the galabjamun (4 pieces) and was very satisfied.
All in all, the place might not be very fancy but they definitely have extremely delicious food and the service was just as great.
If you are in the area, this is the only place that you should stop for a quick bite. This place definitely earns their yelp stars 🙂
Highly recommended.
We decided to try this place as we had not been there before and we wanted something new to try in edison while we were there. We looked up the review on yelp which were good enough to warrant a visit and so we did.
the place was quite and there was no one there as it was like mid afternoon . We order methi paneer tiki , pav bhaji and Kati roll with aloo.
Paneer tiki was actually good better than what i was expecting but also it was def ready made frozen that they might get it from somewhere so def not hand made or house specialty.
Pav bhaji was not as good . it was just there. A little bland and i could tell there had skimped on the butter in the bhaji and pav. Pav bhaji is not what it is if AMUL BUTTER is not used and almost all Indian rest skimp on this by using the cheapest available butter from they food provider. So that was that.
The kati roll with aloo was decent . The stuffing of aloo was great . Very tasty and spicy and the way lot of Indians like it. But the roll itself was again skimped up on as it was the Mexican white tortilla roll that was wraped like a burrito and handed to us. Kati rolls tend to have a whole different kind of paratha style of bread used to stuff and roll based on the stuffing you get . So that was that too.
overall it was ok. nothing special. Maybe they have something that is house special but we did not get know what it was from the yelp reviews so we got the three things and tried it out.
I wish this place was closer to me in NYC, the best dosa's I've ever had in my life. The cheese dosa is a dream come true. We ordered a bunch of things from spicy Parathas, chaats, South indian thali dishes and madras coffee. The place is well organized and the service is super friendly and attentive.
