  1. Tried this place last night and the sushi was excellent! I got the no name roll which is basically a crunchy spicy tuna roll topped with avocado and eel. Very tasty and the price is right! Also got a regular and spicy tuna rolls for half price. Its a great deal and won't break the bank!
This place is a little cramped and kind of hectic though. I knocked over a glass on accident and the staff handled it well but I can tell they were kind of pissed. I feel like people have to kind of jam into that restaurant. But the great sushi and affordable pricing make it worth the trip.

  2. I really do not know why Wild ginger has the rating it has because, for the price, it is top three best sushi places in ridgewood.

The fact that there is half off sushi here ALL THE TIME is spectacular in itself; but add on the fact that the quality of the sushi is quite high just makes this place a great, nay, fantastic spot to eat.

I always come here with my beautiful girlfriend with a nice bottle of wine (it's BYOB!) and we generally order 2-3 rolls each. Almost always our bill never surpasses $25. It really is quite cheap. My favorite ones to get are spicy crunchy tuna, sweet potato roll, and the peanut avocado is also pretty good!

Definitely come here if you are looking for a nice little sushi place for an incredible price!

PS the decor is actually surprisingly pleasant too! One of the best looking sushi places in the area.

  3. One of my favorite sushi restaurants! It's a byob which is always nice – always have half off sushi and its fresh and delicious!

  4. Wild G is modern and clean, offers wide Asian menu including decent sushi, Thai style and other dishes. I like the Vietnamese summer rolls especially and offer get the "Asian Chicken" which is a simple grilled chicken breast with light soy- ginger sauce, fresh Bok choi and a sprinkling of seaweed salad on top. Also had the curries – very nice, spicy and fresh. Good price value and again, modern space with open kitchen.

  5. While sushi is inherently kind of fancy (qualified by something I KNOW I would screw up if I tried), there's something to be said for not wanting to eat your meal in a place that feels like a nightclub nor a little nook that presents itself as being an authentically copy and pasted from Japan. This place feels like…well, itself. The decor could really be anything, but it's still neat and great little place. The overhead skylight brings an airy feel to the place and the wooden tables make the place feel warm, rustic and welcoming.

I had dinner here with my bff earlier this week and it was great. The sushi was well-represented and tasted fresh and you honestly can't beat the price. The bill came out to around $30 for both of us, and we are girls that can eat and we were both full. Was it the best I've ever had? No. But it did satisfy my craving for sushi while also satisfying my craving to keep money in my wallet. The service was good, attentive, quick, but overall neutral. Not overly friendly, but not at all rude. It's great for a casual mid-week dinner out with friends, someplace that deserves to go into your monthly rotation of tried and true joints, and sometimes you just want a sure thing.

  6. First off, free strong green tea, nice.

Had the Dinner special (for dishes) for 18.99. was fine. It doesn't seem to be on the menu on their website for some reason

Appetizer: Vietnamese salad (well kind of)

The vietnamese salad as they said combined mango, some crispy noodles, and some veggies with a sauce similar to the one found in the salads at gener(ic)al Japanese players. While I wouldn't call it Vietnamese, the flavor was fine, but strange. Good portion though

2.8, though I'd give it a 3 or something if it was renamed

    Soup: Miso

The seaweed in there had a bit of crunch. There was also a bit more miso in there than normal.

    3.2

    Main: Sambal Samba
Not good, no Sambal flavor. However, the brown rice is free, the eggplant was solid, and there was a good amount of chicken, which while not being too flavorful, it also did not have the texture of Chinese-American dishes.

2.5 I'd try something different from this

    Dessert: Green Tea Ice Cream

This was actually a really good brand of it. I have found this brand in Japanese stores before. Kinda surprising how bitter it was. 3.8

  7. Asian-fusion restaurant which offers a variety of sushi and hot dishes. Nice decor – trendier than the other sushi restaurants in Ridgewood.

The mixed green salad was quite boring (what do you expect?) but the seaweed salad was quite good. It came with mango on the side – thankfully it wasn't mixed in. That would have ruined the salad – mango is a stand-alone item for me. We split a few rolls (pictures attached):

    – Chestnut Street Roll
    – Swan Roll
    – Philadelphia Roll
    – Victoria Roll (I think?)

Tables are super-tight together. We were half waiting for the couple sitting next to us to sample some of our rolls since they were eyeing them so intently. Hands off!

Wild Ginger offers a half-price sushi menu and this was met with skepticism by us. "What's the catch?" we asked. There was no catch – this is an every day menu. Our bill was $47. Pretty reasonable, no?

    BYOB!

  8. What sold me on Wild Ginger is their half priced sushi, which judging by other reviews, does not make me unique in any way.

I get a kick out of explaining the "half priced sushi, all day, every day" thing to friends/family. They really cannot comprehend that yes, it really is every single day at any time – there are no restrictions, it's just a special half-priced menu.

I've always had amazing and attentive service at Wild Ginger – they're around to refill water and tea whenever it's on the verge of emptiness, and they clear plates away very quickly/come back to take more orders.

I usually stick to the half-price menu and always order brown rice instead of white (for an extra 50 cents per order – which is nothing). Favorites include the sweet potato roll, Alaska roll, dragon roll, and the spicy tuna and salmon. The sashimi is also delicious – especially the seared tuna!

I also love that it's BYOB and that there are so many wine/liquor shops close by in case you forget to bring a favorite. I've never felt rushed out of Wild Ginger, and keep coming back here for a reason. It's not the best sushi I've ever had in my life, but for the price and freshness of everything I've ordered over the years, I recommend Wild Ginger.
