This review is purely for takeout.
My family went to takeout burgers. The service was friendly and quick. There are several options to choose from including pre made burgers and burgers you can customize your own way.
I decided on the burger with avocado and blue cheese aioli. It was cooked just right the way I wanted it at medium well. The burger is a good size to fill you up. I honestly didn't need fries or any other side. The burger was enough.
Hopefully they continue to work on improving service based on the other reviews. It seems like a good addition to the area for a place to sit down or to take a meal out.
I kept passing by Crossbay Boulevard and waiting for this place to open, it's really close to home and in a place where it's mostly Italian food or Sushi restaurants I was looking forward to a burger joint in the area. As soon as they opened I kept seeing this place full. Which I don't understand the bad reviews that people keep giving Truburger when it's always packed.
The boyfriend and I decided to come here this past Sunday evening after deciding not to cook dinner. After reading all the bad reviews I was hesitant to try it out but as one who used to be a waitress and worked in new restaurants I didn't let that bother me. I know the struggle of working at a grand opening and after you think you have everything to start attending tables; you forgot to order the napkins for the restaurant.
As soon as we enter we told the lady table for 2 and we were seated within seconds, I was not impressed by her. She did not introduce herself and she just dropped the menus in the middle of the table and went back to the front. Like I said before I have worked in the restaurant business before and that is not a way to leave an impression to a potential regular customer ESPECIALLY since you just opened. You are supposed to introduce yourself say follow me and when taking the customers to the table you place the menus in front of them after being seated and tell them "such and such is going to be your server and he or she will be with you shortly". Later on I saw her approaching a server as soon as she approached to attend their table which is another big no-no.
Food:
I got the chicken sandwich because I couldn't make up my mind in which burger to get and I really wanted to try their chipotle aioli and since they didn't have it in any of their burgers I told the server to please add it to my chicken sandwich, they gave me the chipotle aioli on the side which they charged me $1.50 for it and the server did not mention this surcharge what so ever, another big no-no. I asked for it on the sandwich and it was placed on the side and you charge me for it without saying something about it, you always mention this to the customer so they won't be surprised and call you to the table to ask about it which will take time from you to attend the other tables if you did this in the first place.
My boyfriend told her what's up with all the negative reviews on yelp about this place and she answers "I don't know but I know those bad reviews are not my customers and who has time to time to be writing reviews anyways". You don't say these things to customers especially since you have no idea if the person you are attending the table is a food critic writing a review in the local paper or is a secret shopper hired by your company. I just nodded and went back to my sandwich which was good and it should really be with the chipotle aioli instead of the other condiment they have it with. Besides all of this I was satisfied with my sandwich and the boyfriend was content with his burger. Would we be coming back? Maybe it depends if when the new Asian Fusion spot 2 stores down finally opens and its better and if we don't want to cook dinner. All in all the food was good, they just need to keep working on the customer service and maybe go into more training or hiring an experience staff. The decor is beyond amazing, it doesn't feel like you are in South Queens but it has a vibe like you are in Astoria. Maybe that's why this place needs improvement, it's because they focused more on the look then the actual dining experience.
I have been waiting for this place to open since forever! Its been a highly anticipated location for the neighborhood and its walking distance for me. Finally the wifey and I were able to stroll over after seeing bad review after bad review we were a bit weary but still were gonna give it a shot. I actually went once real quick during my lunch break and took a burger to-go and It was decent but I know it would've been better in house so it wasn't fair to give it a review based on that.
Service:
The hostess wasn't the friendliest in the world (after doing so many reviews I come to pay attention to every part of visiting any place and take notes in my head) there was a number of points off the checklist she missed but mainly no being more gracious but I digress..
The waitress was adequately accommodating friendly but not exactly having full knowledge of the menu which shouldn't happen. My girl wanted a burger with the Chipotle Aioli and she didn't know which one had one, then I asked if the burger I wanted had grilled onions she said yes I said YOU SURE? She's like YESSS and guess what they weren't smh that just speaks to lack of leadership.
Food:
I asked for my burger to be medium-well and they hit a bulls-eye, it was perfectly done to my taste so no complaints there only praise. The bun was way to big but that seems to be a common problem with burger places, if they make the bun too big its a problem and when they make it too small the burger will just fall apart and have a bad experience so I guess going big is the lesser of two evils so why not go BIG. For a place that has beautiful décor and is an official burger spot, you would think they could make the burger's side-kick in house. These FRIES are not hand-cut fries as said on the menu! anyone can tell fresh made and frozen bought fries and these were VERY APPARENT, wish they could remedy that for themselves because these fries were same as any regular diner from around the corner and we have enough of those in this neighborhood. Cant Complain bout the brownie milkshake which was top notch, not too sweet or too heavy and nice fat brownie inside so two thumbs up.
Overall there seemed to be a lack leadership in the place in general, over staffed and just a bunch of employees running around without a lot of direction. I gather to think this place was started by one person who isn't around much and the people put in place don't have any skin in the game, so don't care as much as an owner would of a brand new establishment that has a unique concept in a prime location. I guess they opened in a hurry because they didn't even wait for a liquor license which would help their bottom line as well as letting people leave buzzed and happier bout their experience overall since it opened the reviews have been just simply bad. Not just on Yelp I have many friends in the area and when brought up at my last poker game first comment was The Place Is Garbage!
I can't complain too much my burger was great so that saved them and as far as the burger I had to go was very good too, so hopefully they improve! Good Luck Truburger, I'll be back to try different burgers since you are basically across the street from me!
Don't know why all the haters for this new gourmet burger spot. From the apps to entrees we enjoyed our meal here. A great selection of craft beers, wine or even gourmet milkshakes are available to accompany the burgers . We had fabulous corn fritters and fried pickles to start. You can build your own burger, but our party of four chose from the signature burgers- Mac and cheese burger, Greek lamb burger, a stacked burger and a turkey burger. All were great. Our server, Paola was excellent. We will definitely be back to this well managed restaurant.
Finally a burger spot in the neighborhood buttttt there are a few things they need to work on….
I ordered take out. I placed the order over the phone and it was ready in 20 min as promised. The girl who answered the call and took the order was very polite.
I ordered the Top Burner with a turkey patty instead. That burger was superrr packed with flavor. The grilled jalapeño peppers on top of the patty brought a major kick. The cilantro aioli is everywhere and messy. The bun was not toasted so it got soggy very quickly. The patty looked too cookie cutter to be made in house. But with all that said, it was spicy and delicious!!!
I ordered a side of "hand cut" sweet potato fries. Those fries were definitely frozen and not cut in house. Too bad because it's not worth getting again. It also lacked seasoning. I asked for chipotle aioli on the side (extra charge). I know it's mayo based but it was just too much mayo and not enough chipotle… It would probably go better in a sandwich.
It is pricey as just a burger, fries, and chipotle mayo cost $20.
In all… Good gourmet burgers (ask for a toasted bun). Frozen 'hand cut' fries. Pricey.
I would say this place is starting to come into its own, and trying to figure out its identity. The burgers are very good, and I would recommend sticking with the burgers. My friend ate the minestrone and it was more of a vegetable, with a dull taste, so stick with the burger. The staff I feel is learning their surroundings, and need a little more confidence but they're very nice and helpful. All and all I would recommend for the burgers, and fries.
I've been driving past the location for Truburger for about two months, anxiously waiting for them to open their doors and bless us with delicious (veggie) burgers and fries. Needless to say, my expectations were very high. This would be the first "real" burger place on this side of the neighborhood, and the site seemed promising. I finally passed by the location today and, to my surprise, I saw people sitting by the windows! I immediately called up my husband to tell him the restaurant had opened and we visited the establishment for lunch. Upon waking in, we noticed that the restaurant is looking to portray an industrial/lodge feel, and their decor includes accents like exposed brick walls, exposed beams, and lots of wooden furniture. The bathrooms were large and had beautifully textured accent walls. Overall, the restaurant looked very clean and streamlined. A waiter informed us that today was the "Soft-Opening" and already they had many customers.
On to the food. Truburger offers a large selection of crafted burgers, and they also provide the option of creating your own. They have several different types of fries (truffle, sweet potato, loaded); however, the fries are not included with your burger order. My husband ordered the Adana burger ($11.95). This burger includes a lamb patty, Feta cheese, and fresh dill aioli. He also ordered a Banana-Strawberry Bliss shake ($6.50). He expressed that both the burger and the shake were very good. He added that the burger was juicy and the sharp feta cheese provided a nice touch to the rest of the meal. The shake was thick and creamy, but could've used a bit more fruit flavor. I ordered sweet potato fries($4.50), as there were no full-sized veggie burger entree options. The fries were long, crunchy, and pleasantly sweet. They paired beautifully with the truffle aioli and some good ol' Heinz ketchup. Our bill total was $26.35 (plus tip) for a burger, fries, and a shake.
Truburger seems like a great burger place. The food tastes gourmet and hand-crafted, which makes for a memorable meal. I think the prices are a bit steep for the neighborhood, though. I wish that the size of the food would correlate with the price. Otherwise, delicious food!
