Tavern on Jane

“Not going to lie, but I loved the crayons on the table so we acted like 5 year olds during the meal doodling everywhere.”

“Check this place out – the scoutmob deal is a good one, and the bar is a good place to wind down with friends or family for drinks and food.”

“The amazing food and fun cozy atmosphere make up for the slightly less than desirable service.”

  1. Found this little place via Yelp and decided to head over, even in the frigid weather. Warm, welcome, pub style setting. Was greeted at the door and seated immediately. We ended up both getting the Pre-Fixe which is great because each entree comes with a delicious basket of muffins & croissants, along with a drink of your choice- of course I had champagne. Corn beef hash was delicious and the service was great. Nice cozy place to hunker down in and have a good meal! Cheer to Tavern on Jane!

  2. Quaint place with good food. I came here for Sunday brunch. They have reasonable prices and the staff is really nice. The food is nothing to write home about, but not terrible. Their brunch menu consisted of essentially the same type of stuff you'd order at a diner, although it was better than diner quality. I want to come back and try their dinner menu to see how the rest of their menu is, since the atmosphere and staff were so nice.

  3. Solidly good food AND crayons to draw on the tabletop paper? I'm sold. I've been to Tavern on Jane a few times, and have never been disappointed. There are always several good vegetarian options on the menu, and the drinks are great. Prices are reasonable given the location. Service is not particularly attentive, but that works out just fine for those meals where you want to linger for awhile talking after finishing your food.

  4. I cam here on a pinch with a group of girls. Not the best brunch spot- it's just OKAY. I ordered a basic eggs, bacon, and toast. I don't know how they got that wrong… but it wasn't all that great!

  5. Awful food! The place is nice and the staff is kind but the food and drinks are just plain garbage.
I arrived and I got a Fernet with coke that was more like water with a hint of coke. I barely tasted the Fernet because it was so watery that the ice had more flavor.
When we sat down at the table we ordered the food or what it was supposed to be food. Mussels that came with no mussels and a dry and tasteless turkey burger. The "Prince Edward" mussels were more like the frog instead of the prince. So tiny that you couldn't see them. Shells without mussels inside and a super garlicky broth that made the whole dish uneatable.
The burger was just crap. Dry as a piece of wood and the bread was old. Nothing about the menu can be good if you cook a dry burger.
I wouldn't recommend this place or better yet I would recommend not to go!

  6. after getting through some bumps on the complexities of what you can and can not change about the fabulous brunch prix fixe option my boyfriend and i had a great sunday brunch here.

so for $22 you can get 1 boozy brunch drink, 1 coffee or tea, a choice of 1 entree from +10 items and a muffin basket. things that you can not do with this option, order a fancier bloody such as the ballpark bloody that i got. i wrongly assumed they would just tack on a few extra bucks to the $22, but no… i ended up just having to get another drink. you can not order any of the prix fixe items ala carte. its either the whole nine yards or something else on the menu with an actual $$ price sitting directly next to it.

on to food! the bloodies were great! i appreciated them being served in a normal 8oz sized glass! i also liked the overall menu variety, there was a lot of tasty sounding brunch items to choose from ranging from steak sandwiches, to chicken to waffles, to huevos rancheros. i ordered some chipotle chilaquiles and my boyfriend got the steak sandwich. the portions were huge and came out quickly. we were both in small food comas after completing our meal.

overall the experience here was great. other yelp reviews complained out service, but i found the two waitresses that were working to be very attentive and friendly. would come back again for this brunch deal.

  7. Not sure how I've missed coming to this place during my tenure in New York, but what a gem it is! Kind of unassuming from the outside, but an excellent location right on 8th Ave along the border of Chelsea and West Village. Super friendly service, functions as a local neighborhood joint, and delicious food. Seriously, one of the better breakfast burritos I've had in the city. Chill, rustic, down-home vibe. Love.

I am definitely keeping Tavern on Jane on my list of go-to's to bring friends and family when visiting. Happy to have this in my neighborhood and will definitely be returning!

  8. My friend and I came here for dinner last night, and it was as good as it gets!

While waiting at the bar for a table for two, Lil(l)y, one of the best bartenders I have encountered, made a round of one of the best dirty martinis I have had. Straight up with Tito's vodka and three large, tasty, olives, they were poured to perfection.

Within 30 minutes, a table opened up. Closing out at the bar, we moved to our table, and were greeted by a friendly server. To eat we shared an order of the Smithfield fries. Massive, and complete with pulled pork, pepperjack cheese, scallions, sliced jalapeños, and chipotle sour cream, this "appetizer" turned out to be an extremely filling meal for two. We washed it down with pints of Ommegang, which hit the spot.
